Ive been using this bells of steel equipment for the last 7 weeks, and I must say Im quite impressed. Usually you expect to get what you pay for with fitness equipment, but I feel like BOS has given me quite a bit more value for the price (especially here in Canada). After Scouring the internet for the perfect squat rack to fit the space I had available, I found the line of racks bells of steel had available, and to my suprise THEY ACTUALLY FIT THE HEIGHT OF MY BASEMENT! As a guy who is 66 it was a STRUGGLE to find a rack that is tall enough for me, but short enough to fit on top of a 2.5 platform without hitting the low ceiling. I’m really wondering how training will be a few months down the road. Assuming I don’t eat like a fat shit again (@phamismfit please hold my hand lmao) I should ideally be putting myself in a position for PR’s across SBD early next year. Sumo finally feels comfortable again, and that’s what I’ll be sticking with for my comp style. Yes, I mean that this time 😂 I took some time comparing my 617 opener from last March and the first 606 single from the other week, and I think I’m finally in a good spot considering I’m 10lbs lighter and clearly not peaked. The goal right now is just keeping my head up these last few weeks of cutting and approach regaining weight VERY slowly. vou deixar aqui essa imagem de 2014 pra falar de uma parada que eu to louca pra fazer textão. atividade física é uma coisa relativamente nova na minha vida (6 anos). Eu era 100% sedentária e como vcs devem saber eu tenho asma tbm, o que não me incentivava a começar algo tbm. Em 2014 descobri o Crossfit e fiquei obcecada, fui fazer educação física e todo o pacote completo. O que aconteceu ali pra mim foi que eu ganhei capacidade de fazer coisas e pensar em atividades que antes eram impossíveis pra mim (o Crossfit tbm me deu uma esposa mas isso não vem ao caso agora). Viajar e conseguir passear andando era uma coisa horrível, decidir fazer por um dia alguma coisa diferente era impossível. Agora eu consigo ir escalar pra ver como é, jogar beach tênis com meus amigos, fazer yoga, andar de bike com o pai da li, acompanhar minha mãe na musculação que ela finge que não gosta, ir no box que ela treina pra provar pras amigas dela que eu consigo levantar peso, participar de um campeonato de LPO pra ganhar a primeira medalha da minha vida e o que mais surgir. Tem diversas coisas q eu não gosto de fazer, tipo correr, e eu não me obrigo nem um pouco, até onde eu sei eu não sou atleta de nada então me dou esse direito de só fazer o q me deixa feliz e me motiva. On a Saturday I have a fun session in the gym. It’s a session I get to do all the exercises I wouldn’t typically put into my programming however, fun saturday is very much a big part of my training. It’s not a session I take easy or don’t push the weight up. It’s a session to do other things mainly cleans, DB snatches, Slam ball tosses, KB swings, Ski Erg etc. I don’t worry about the volume of the session compared to the week before, it’s a training day I train to my energy level as it’s the 6th day on the trot and my 3rd leg day (sorta), it’s a day I go in and work hard without worrying if it’s 10kg or 40kg. I love training and if lockdown taught me one thing it was I like training if I’m using bands or using a barbell because it’s your intensity and the mindset you have on a session that makes it fun or not. And yes I use the word fun because even though it hurts it is fun 😂 So here is me having fun, swipe if you want to see me not do a squat clean on my first attempt. Single leg exercises are often a staple in the programs of athletes, competitive lifters, and people who just exercise for fun, HOWEVER, many people dont know how to program them properly What we must realize is that whenever you make an exercise LESS stable (ie when training with less contact with the floor, as is the case during unilateral training), we also DECREASE our ability to produce force in that situation On top of this, the different kinds of unilateral exercises lie on a spectrum of being inherently less stable to more stable For example, the Hatfield SSB split squat that Im demonstrating in this video is a pretty damn stable single leg variation due to the multiple points of contact You could contrast this with a pistol squat, which is another quad-focused unilateral exercise, but which is much LESS stable because you only have one leg on the floor and no hand assist With the pistol squat, you are sacrificing some force production potential by increasing the stability demands, while with the Hatfield SSB split squat you have greater force production potential due to the lower stability demands Neither are right nor wrong by themselves, but the context in which theyre programmed is important If you are doing single leg work with the intent of improving strength, power, or muscular hypertrophy (like for competitive barbell athletes) you should likely opt for unilateral variations that have less stability demands (most of the time) because you can overload them to a greater extent, and therefore develop the physical qualities that you actually WANT to develop However, if your goals for unilateral work are more in line with balance, trunk control etc, you should likely opt for unilateral variations that have greater stability demands, as they will better help you develop those qualities Pistol squats, split squats, single leg RDLs, lunges and most other single leg exercises are GREAT exercises, but you need to make sure that you are programming them in a way that actually addresses your specific training goals Check out @resilienttraininglab for kickass programming that will get you RESULTS Use BARBELLDOC for 10% off @vivobarefoot - @thebarbelldoc on Instagram

551.2x3x1 reverse band on squats and 534.6x6x1 on deadlifts. Great day of training today! Worked on bar placement and grip width on squats and ended up moving my grip in a little bit and moving the bar up on my back just a little bit and it made a world of difference. I actually made it through straight bar squats without arm pain for the first time in a looooong time. Finally have the confidence in my squat that I needed! Deadlifts are feeling amazing. Technique is on point and the weight is flying! 534.6 is just 16.6lbs under my opener and it’s moving great. Can’t wait to put it all together! . Though the biceps are generally known as the classic “pump and flex” muscles, endlessly hammering out sets of 50 on cable curls will leave a lot to be desired in terms of total growth. ⁣ ⁣ While it’s definitely not the best idea either to perform 5RM barbell curls, we can find ways to strategically and safely train the biceps in lower rep ranges to maximize the range of stimulus being applied. Here are my top 3 exercises for the job:⁣ 1️⃣Supinated Pull-ups- Maybe a bit out of the ordinary here when you think of traditional biceps training but the stress that heavy pulling (especially vertical and supinated) is not to be underestimated. Because the risk:reward of doing things like curls in rep ranges lower than 8-10 is largely unfavorable, we can circumvent this by doing higher intensities with pull-up and pulldown variations. ⁣ 2️⃣Machine Preacher Curls- When it comes to overload and tracking progress long term, the more control/stability we can get within a pattern the better...same goes for curls which is why I value these so highly. While I am a fan of heavy EZ and barbell curls (provided the wrists can handle the stress), the standardization of form is tough as loads increase over time. Machine based movements tend to alleviate this issue while also leveling the resistance curve a bit to be more favorable (in comparison to free weight preachers as well). ⁣ 3️⃣Away Facing Low Cable Curls- This is probably my personal favorite biceps movement but it HAS to be done correctly and with intent or the objective of the exercise is lost. Provided your torso and upper arm position are properly aligned, these will place a huge demand on the biceps brachii through the lengthened position and unlike most other similar patterns, the cables ensure that demand is consistent throughout the ROM. More than any biceps exercise I’ve found, this allows you to really grind and strain through hard reps close to failure which can be a catalyst for hypertrophy.⁣ ⁣ #progressiveperformancep2 - @progressiveperformancep2 on Instagram

Sometimes I’ll get ppl ask me if I’ll compete in powerlifting again ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Honestly.. I don’t think so for the time being.⁣ ⁣⁣ I just don’t have the same spark for it that I used to. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’ve been going back and fourth about it for ages (last 2 years) and honestly it just isn’t as much of a passion compared to before, when I lived and breathed it. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I still love the sport - it changed my life and allowed me to grow a lot as a person -⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ It taught me sacrifice, discipline, showed me how much was possible if I really put my mind to it, and gave me a taste of what it really meant to give 1000% of your heart and energy into something. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ In my last year in the u23, I swore I’ll never be one of those ppl who go into the open and then disappear or quit the sport. ⁣ ⁣ I guess everyone has their own path, and in my case I went down the path of growing a fitness and business consulting business which, today, has changed hundreds of lives as well as given my team members full time jobs where they can work from anywhere.⁣ ⁣ powerlifting organically just took a backseat, something I tried to fight for ages because I didn’t wanna fully let it go.⁣ ⁣ But I don’t see myself ever competing or participating in the sport as intensely as I used to. ⁣ ⁣ I’m still doing powerlifting type training at the gym. ⁣ ⁣ But for now, I’ll be hanging up my powerlifting belt (next to my medals 😈)⁣ ⁣ Massive respect to everyone I ever met in powerlifting and those who are still participating in the sport⁣ ⁣ But for now ..Brb, platform.⁣ ⁣ Ps- this photo was taken by my coach @jim_rts at the IPF world powerlifting championships, who took me from baby lifter to international lifter breaking british records & stuff. Four years ago, when I started powerlifting, I set a goal to lift at the Arnold. Today, I competed at the A7 Raw Challenge in the Arnold. I trained my ass off the past few months for this. Coming in I knew it was time to show that work off. I got a squat PR of 7.5kg with 160kg. During bench, I pulled my lower back. I had time to rehab this and try and deadlift, but it wasn’t working. I started warming up early and barely being able to pull 70kg. My choices were clear: bomb out or push through the pain. If you know me, my goal was to keep up with the female in 5th. I changed my mindset and started pushing through. The odds weren’t in my favor. I ended up dropping my opener by 25kg and ended up only getting my opener. I tried my best and pushed through. I am upset that my body couldn’t keep up, but I had to worry about myself. Even though this is my first Arnold, it won’t be my last. I’ll be back. 🥰 Thank you to my girls for coming out and supporting me @julie_nool and @samshiloh. And the biggest thanks to my boyfriend/handler (Danny) for helping push through to the end. I love this photo of Om Yun Chol, mostly because I can hear so many coaches groaning at the degree that he has lifted his feet off the platform. What he is doing is an exaggeration of what every lifter is doing as they pull under the barbell: taking pressure off the platform in order to descend quickly. There has to be little to no pressure on the platform in order for a lifter to accelerate into a low squat position at high speed. In other words, all lifters have to free their feet and bodyweight from the platform in order to get under the barbell quickly. Some look like Om with an exaggerated lifting of the feet, others may appear to not pick up the feet at all, or in between these two extremes. However, for all lifters at this phase there is almost no force being applied against the platform. If this were to happen, the descent will be slowed or there will be a sudden braking inhibiting the lifter from getting into a low squat position. A high speed of descent and improving this aspect of technique can allow a lifter to be successful lifting maximum weights moving at lower bar speeds. Alot of the time the positions we HAVE to be in to appease judging criteria at a Powerlifting comp arent condusive to everyones anatomical structure. This is why we see coaches allowing some questionable looking variations of lifts on the platform, we dont have the luxury to raise bars and change equipment to suit everyones leverages. Sometimes for someone to compete in powerlifting we have to jam a round peg in a square hole, if you have foward facing hip sockets and long ass legs then guess what, your deadlift will look like a scared cat taking a shit, sorry to say but thats the way it is. In the quest for white lights some people WILL move in ways that cause problems and that is the nature of the sport. So maybe tearing back someones technique every 4 weeks isnt the way to get them stronger for a Powerlifting competition, sometimes the best we can do is minamise damage that is caused, not eliminate problems. Crossfit för mig är det som får mig att fortsätta träna! Ja när jag började träna då va jag lärd som alla andra PTs var musklerna satt. Hur man rörde och tränade dom musklerna. Sen tränade man dom i maskiner. Typ split pass. Rygg och biceps. Bröst och triceps. Mage. Cardio ja osv. Fyyyyyyyyyy fan va tråkigt. Ett halvår in som PT och min träningskarriär. Så kände jag hur tråkigt det va. Jag dog av tristess i maskinerna. Ja menar hallå så enformigt och outvecklade 🙄 Men sen hittade jag marklyft, knäböj och tillslut gymnastik och olympiska lyft och sen blev det naturligt att börja med crossfit. En mera idrottsspecifik träningsform. Jag hade absolut en fördel av att jag hade jobbat i maskiner innan då jag hade kontakt med mina muskler och va stark i överkroppen och benen vilket är ett plus i crossfit. Så missförstå mig rätt! Att börja i maskiner och jobba med basrörelser är superbra till en start och även rehab samt bygga muskler tärning. Men jag skulle slutat träna om jag inte fortsatte utveckla mig vidare. Så se till att alltid vara nyfiken. Jobba med mer än bara maskiner. Jobba med kroppsligt. Jobba mot gravitationen oxå! Stimulerar mera hjärna och är mera likt din vardag! Då vi alltid rör oss mot gravitationen. Så fortsätt ha nyfikenhet och testa nytt. Våga misslyckas för att i längden lyckas. (Sappy post ahead, be warned) At risk of this coming off as a #humblebrag, I wanted to share some highlights from my past few months dipping my toes in the water of powerlifting. (Trust & believe that’s a sentence I NEVER imagined saying). Initially, I wanted to wait a bit before posting about this on social media while I work on form/just feeling comfortable lifting in the first place. Today feels like a great time because I exceeded my goal of lifting 200lbs and I rack-lifted 235lbs!!! (Last clip!!) I’m not exaggerating when I say I wouldn’t be doing this without @justcallmebex, the best cheerleader & coach there is out there! The amount of patience and encouragement she’s shown me is UNREAL. I am so so grateful that she’s taken the time to take me under her wing (and feeling very lucky to be quarantining in her family’s house with the most kickass basement gym setup!) ❤️ Real talk: Through my self-love journey and healing from years of hating and abusing myself/my body, one of the biggest challenges for me has been stopping the cycle of viewing exercise as a form of punishment. Now, for the first time, I feel strong and empowered after I work out, which has been huge for me. We must unfortunately cancel the 2020 Summer Open Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships. While BC has progressed to phase 3 of its restart plan, there are still many restrictions in place that prevent us from providing a safe atmosphere for a powerlifting competition that follows provincial guidance. In the simplest of words, what a great day! 😄 Today I went 5/6 in my first weightlifting meet with a lifetime clean & jerk PR! I had an absolute blast lifting today as well as watching my @vikingbarbell teammates crush it! I am officially in love with this sport and can’t wait to see what the future holds. After having abdominal surgery earlier this year @laurensimpson started working with @thebodybuildingphysio to safely reintroduce lifting back into her program. The program begun with ensuring the movement patterns were correct without any load and safely increasing intensity each week. Lauren’s previous best squat was 155kg so getting back to 100kg x 3 was a milestone in the rehab program. These are the results you can achieve if you adhere to the plan and trust the process! Example Lesson Plan using the Workout of the Day for 200930.      AT-HOME OPTIONS    If dumbbells are available, the movements are relatively easy to modify. A dumbbell front squat, dumbbell shoulder press, and dumbbell deadlift can all be performed. If no load is available, prioritize replicating a squatting function, a vertical pressing function, and a movement that focuses on hinging or engaging the posterior chain. (Note: Kettlebells are a good option as well).    The following are examples for those with limited equipment:    Dumbbell Option    🔹Dumbbell front squat 10-8-6-4-2 reps  🔹Dumbbell shoulder press 10-8-6-4-2 reps  🔹Dumbbell deadlift 10-8-6-4-2 reps    👉Notes:  Perform the reps at a tempo that challenges each rep range. For example, perform the deadlift with a 5-second lowering phase, a 4-second pause with dumbbells 2 inches off the floor, and complete the lifting phase in 3 seconds.       Body-Weight-Only Option    🔹Single-leg squat 10-8-6-4-2 reps, each leg  🔹Strict handstand push-up 10-8-6-4-2 reps  🔹Single-leg bridge 30-24-18-12-6 reps, each leg    👉Notes:  Use a controlled tempo on the single-leg squats. Perform a variation of the handstand push-up that makes each set challenging to complete.
