If I had one word of advice to new grads on how to improve patient compliance - it is to EDUCATE! 📖 Even speaking in laymans term, patients often are overwhelmed by the information given to them and the eye is quite a complicated part of the body. ✨ Here are my top three things to help you get the message across: 1) Eye Models - everyone loves 3D models, and it helps a patient understand where exactly the problem is located! (Is a cataract a film over the eye or a clouding in the lens inside?) 2) Diagnostic Imaging- a picture is worth a thousand words. Describe a retinal tear in someones eye isnt the same as showing them the tear! Likewise, imaging can be expanded to anterior problems. 3) Brochures- you might think thats old school and will just go to waste, but people do glance at them, especially your elderly patients!
