#mondaymotivation For the first time in so long Ive started to plan out my week. Admittedly, organisation and planning ahead hasnt always come easy, and like many people I have fallen into the trap of procrastinating. Small changes from doing my meal preps for the week, starting the day off with a mindful breathing meditation, writing to-do lists, and in the evenings jotting down achievable goals for the next day, helps me stay focused and efficient. It enables me to be aware of a factors which I can control and to not overthink or worry about things beyond my control. Its so easy to lose your routine or structure when youre bombarded with various tasks but a delcuttered mind is a healthy mind. Have a blessed week ahead! 🙏🏾 - @doc.nair on Instagram

Ordinary glass panels can act as solar panels when a layer of nanoparticles is sandwiched between two panes. This could help us take advantage of solar energy in cities where space for solar panels may be limited.⁠ ⁠. “If we’ve done our job, no one will even know that they’re there,” says Hunter McDaniel at UbiQD, a materials manufacturing firm in the US. He and his colleagues have developed transparent solar panels that are indistinguishable from regular glass.⁠ ⁠. Test installations, involving panels that are 1 square metre in size, are under way in buildings in the US and the Netherlands. The panels have a power conversion efficiency of 3.6 per cent, a measure of how much sunlight is converted into electricity. Opaque solar panels, in comparison, have efficiencies between 15 and 20 per cent.⁠ ⁠. These transparent panels are made from two layers of glass glued together with a polymer that contains nanoparticles known as quantum dots. With a core of copper indium sulphide and a shell of zinc sulphide, these quantum dots are tiny semiconductors that can manipulate light.⁠ ⁠. When the nanoparticles are excited by exposure to UV light, they release photons that travel along the transparent panel towards its edge. The perimeter is fitted with solar cells, which convert the photons into electrical current. ❤️ To be honest, I felt a little silly doing this pose. Seems people like to hold things out in front of them on instagram like...here is a stethoscope! 😆 . But, on a more serious note, let’s talk about matters of the heart. . 💔 Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. It is the number one killer in females as well, which is often overlooked. Men present with the more classic, grip-your-chest type of symptoms. Females notoriously present with more subtle symptoms, which may even feel like indigestion. This is not meant to scare you, just to keep you aware. . 😯 I had an unusual symptom when I started running again after having my daughter. I went and got checked out, and turns out I was having benign symptomatic PVC’s (extra heart beats) but it was so reassuring to know that all was well. It was an expensive work-up to figure out that I was just out of shape! But, I am so glad I did it. . ✨ A few of my favorite heart health recommendations: . ❤️ Take CoQ10 100 mg twice per day. This is great for the heart. If you happen to be on a statin, you MUST be taking CoQ10 with it. (As a side note, this supplement is also great for fertility as well. Improves egg quality.) . 🥗 Aim for 7-9 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. More veggies than fruits. A serving size is a medium size piece of fruit, 1/2 cup cooked veggies or 1 cup raw veggies. . 🍎 Get at least 25 grams of fiber per day. With a mix of soluble and insoluble fiber. Fruits, veggies, beans/lentils, nuts, gluten-free grains. . 🥘 If you consume animal protein, try to think of it as a side, and not the main part of the meal. Your plate should be loaded with produce and healthy fats, and the meat as the “side.” . 🏃🏻‍♀️Walking just 30 minutes 5 days per week can lower your risk. . 🍫 Dark chocolate has heart healthy flavanols, that can improve blood flow, reduce blood pressure, and can boost mood. The Cleveland Clinic says 1 ounce a few times per week for heart health. Yes please! . 🧘🏻‍♀️ Manage stress! “Let’s talk about ‘Periods’. Yes, you read it right! If a female cannot talk comfortably about her periods, how can we expect the society to? Fortunately, I am blessed with a family where I can freely talk about it, and dont have to keep my pain wrapped in a black polythene bag. This happened on a hot, humid afternoon in May. It was the first day of my 3rd COVID duty rotation. I was posted in a ward having 30 patients, some of them in critical condition. I donned my PPE, entered the ward, and started my routine work of checking patients. I was feeling a little bloated, and had a slight pain in my lower abdomen. Yes, I was nearing the end of my menstrual cycle and was ‘prepared’ for it; but, I was praying that my periods should not start during my 6 hour duty, since the PPE alone was enough to make one uncomfortable and dehydrated. Half an hour later, one of the patients started feeling breathless. As I got up from my chair and approached the patient, I realized that my periods said ‘hello!’ to me. I had sudden cramps in my abdomen- a situation all girls can relate to! I checked the vitals of the patient and tried to stabilize him. The patient was worsening… so were my cramps. Finding another resident doctor to replace me would have taken almost an hour, and wasted one more PPE. I didnt want to leave my patient unattended for such a long time. I told myself, ‘Ill bear the cramps’. After 15-20 minutes, the patient’s vitals improved; I went back to my chair, rested for a while and continued my duty. I had to endure the pain and bleeding for 5 out of the 7 days of duty. The scorching heat and the PPE, aggravated the discomfort. But, like all other female healthcare workers, I did my job. Girls, PMS and periods are tough. But were tougher, right? Functioning with pain makes us braver. 𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙤 𝙄 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙨𝙤 𝙝𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮? Because I’m at work!! Never have I ever been so happy for it to be MONDAY & go head out the door to do “my other job” 🤓 Some of you may have seen on my stories recently, my toddler is in the throughs of the “terrible two’s”... and it is 𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇 😖 The fight over who gets to hold the cookie can only get me so far 🍪 😂 I’m grateful I am able to be there for her to help guide her through the rages & tantrums & *hopefully* to a better, more peace full state of mind, but truth be told, it is exhausting! Sometimes I just want to lay down on the ground & cry too! 😫 So, needless to say, I was *happy* to go to work this morning. Not only does it help me clear my mind, but it allows me to change the channel of my focus towards my specialty- helping people see better. Does this make me a bad mother? NO!!!!!! Does it mean I need to tear myself up with mom guilt?? NO!!!!! I recognize that in order to be a good mother, I need to take the time for myself to regroup, to refocus & and to BREATHE! Taking a break in this positive manner makes me a better, more patient mother. Bersembunyi di balik senyum palsu pura2 bahagia dan tegar sembari dalam hati mengelus dada. Lantas ada bapak2 bawa koper masuk ke praktekan. Pasien. Bawa seplastik gede jambu kristal. Hasil bumi kata beliau. Tak lupa kami ucapkan terima kasih. Dan ini tidak sekali dua kali, sering banget siomay, sekardus durian, sekotak tahu petis, roti, kue basah bikinan sendiri, pisang setandan, cake ultah, souvenir oleh2 dari traveling, sekotak gede jenang, setoples kering tempe, peyek kacang dan hasil bumi lainnya mampir ke poli ini. Let’s talk about Vital Signs! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🏩 Vital signs provide us with critical information needed to make treatment decisions. Above are the normal ranges for ADULT vital signs. Have these values memorized, you will need them for the rest of your nursing career! 🩺 We typically monitor our patient’s vital signs q4h, q8h or q12h (1-3 times) every shift but it varies for every patient! Know your patient’s baseline vitals - it will be easier for you to determine any abnormal values. I like to take a look at the patient’s chart prior to the start of the shift to make note of their previous vitals. Remember each patient will have different baseline values depending on their current health and health history. ❗️ Remember: patients with COPD often have lower oxygen saturation and the range between 88-92% is normal and safe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👩🏻‍⚕️ Nursing students: report any abnormal values to your clinical instructor or your nurse.
