How I passed the NCLEX in 75 questions • Materials: I purchased the Saunders prep book which includes an online question bank and the @uworldnursing package with two 100 question exams and access to the question bank to prepare for my NCLEX. • Study plan: I spent about 2 weeks total studying for the NCLEX. For the first week or so, I worked through about 2,100 questions out of the 5,000 questions in the Saunders bank. I didn’t have a set number of questions that I wanted to do each day, my goal was just to be able to do at least 265 questions each time I sat down to study. Some days I did more questions than others, I think the most I did was over 600 questions in a day, and some days I did none if I felt like I needed a break. I felt like the explanations for Saunders were more succinct than UWorld, which helped me get through a lot of questions quickly while still reading through the explanations as I went. I think that this helped me refresh on a lot of material that I hadn’t necessarily used since I learned it. • About a week before my NCLEX, I took one of my UWorld practice tests to see where I was at and it said I had a very high chance of passing. I then began working through the question bank for a few days before taking the second practice test, which also said I had a very high chance of passing. The day before my NCLEX, I spent the day going over the questions in the UWorld bank that I had missed since I knew I wasn’t the type of person who would be able to relax and not study. • And that’s how I passed in 75 questions! As you can see, I went into it without much of an actual plan, but that’s what works best for me. Please do what works best for you when it comes to studying, I just wanted to share what I did in case someone else can benefit from it. Good luck to you all! I NEED YOUR HELP NOW As you know, my audience is the smartest and most ambitious community on the Internet. So I need some help with a pretty big project I’m working on. You know that I never sell to you, as I get my money elsewhere. I’ve been rejecting 95% of brand deals etc - I am not interested. I don’t need you to fund my living. I have a career outside of social media that takes care of that. But I’ve long wanted to launch a product that actually brings you value. Not a hoodie or a phone case (no disrespect, those are cool too!). But something that can make a difference. And an opportunity like this came my way. In a collaboration with an established brand (can’t disclose yet), I will be launching a line of productivity products. I’m myself weak for various planners, cards, habit trackers etc. But they fail me quite often for various reasons. So I want to develop a few products to help us execute on our dreams. I’ll be involved in designing and manufacturing from scratch, so I will make sure that the end products are actually EFFECTIVE. If you are interested, I want you to help me create these products. The aim: increased productivity without increasing pressure we place on ourselves. I’m thinking about products along the lines of: manifestation cards, habit tracker in a form of a bracelet, stress-free daily planner, digital accountability system. We have a lot of freedom here. We are opening our doors again Wednesday June 10th! As excited as we are, we want to make sure that all of our members know that we are taking many precautions and want to open safely. This means that we will not be going back to normal for some time, there will be a lot of changes with our locations as we start to reopen. We ware beginning with 7:00am - 7:00pm every day with 25% capacity. (Below are the numbers for each gym) Things you can expect from us: -Masks and state mandated PPE will be required and worn by all staff at all times -Daily health screenings for all staff to help insure the safest possible environment. -Frequent cleaning and sanitization around all areas of the gym, especially focusing on high traffic areas. -Face masks are not required but highly recommended for members going to/from the gym or anytime youre not actively working out. -Towel service will not be available for some time so please bring your own if you need one. Things we expert from our members: -Everyone will have to check in at the front desk every single time you enter the building to ensure we are not going over capacity. -Please be quick with your workouts, we are recommending no more than 1 hour per workout. Please be aware that if the gym is at capacity, there may be a line you will have to wait in outside. -Please wash or sanitize hands upon arrival and when done training. -Please take extra care when cleaning your equipment after each use. The staff will be taking extra cleaning very seriously but we need everyone to keep up with it. Thank you @stapaw for this. I get a lot of questions about my tattoos and if it affects my schooling or career. The short answer is no. I have to cover them for school and clinical but my job at the hospital allows me to show them as long as it is not offensive. . Now, there was one patient who asked about them. He asked “what if your husband doesn’t like tattoos?” I laughed on the inside because I would never marry someone who judges someone for their physical appearance and the choices they make but I answered him by saying “I want to marry someone who loves me for me... and that includes my choices and my tattoos.” . What I also didn’t tell him is my sleeve is completely for my grandma and my grandma is the reason I pursued nursing. My sleeve consists of a tree of life and angel wings as the roots (She loved angel wings. I have them engraved on her urn as well), a rose (her favorite flower), and a clock (showing the time she was born). . I choose to get the ink on my arm because I wanted people to see the dedication I have for my grandma. This dedication also applies to nursing. In nursing school, I only got a very small glimpse of what working in hospice would be like and I didn’t get the opportunity to experience home health at all. I am currently being trained to do hospice first and then I will be trained to do home health at a later time. After being out in the field for hospice this week, I have to say that I absolutely love it! Being there for patients and families in their homes has been such an incredible experience! There’s nothing quite like being there for someone at the end of their life and I truly feel that this job was put in my path for a reason. As much as I loved my time in the NICU and thought it was where I was meant to be, working in hospice has shown me a side of nursing that I have completely fallen in love with and I honestly feel that this is my calling. There is so much pressure to work in a hospital setting when you graduate, but don’t ever feel like you have to. Nursing has so many facets to explore and they don’t all involve acute care. It’s painful losing people we love dearly, but a truth of this life is, each point in our journey will have people who are meant to be there to help guide us, teach us, grow us, and love us. That’s what makes connections so special and so life changing. The only thing ive learned about learning is you can only learn instead of studying when you let your mind free of shackles shrouded in comparison! PASSED MY EMERGENCY MEDICINE EOR 🚨!! . Holy moly that was my last EOR EVER!!! . It feels so good to be officially done with end of rotation exams!!! . These exams are written by PAEA and are a DOOZY let me tell you! . But I just reminded myself to keep breathing during the exam and to not get so bogged down if I didn’t know the answer and just keep going! . Cause that’s what I’ll have to do when it comes time for the PANCE! . The EOR is 120 questions and the PANCE is 300. Mental exhaustion is the real test for both! . Just keep going. Keep breathing. Don’t get discouraged and have faith in yourself and abilities!! . . Now time to pack up my whole room cause I move back to Maryland TOMORROW! For my elective rotation that starts on MONDAY! . Then we have a research semester and graduation in December! . . No more long distance for Mike and I! . . A few tools that I’ve found super helpful this year have been my iPad mini and Apple Pencil. At the beginning of the year, we traded in our old iPads for these new minis. During the day, I’m able to look up information using resources like UpToDate and Epocrates. I can also write notes using the Notability app which helps keep everything organized. My friends @vranpariya and @joshrosh recommended getting an @apple Pencil earlier this year and it’s been so useful in the clinic. I came into this year very confused, questioning who I was as a person and where I wanted to go in life, which is sometimes a bit unnerving, but I can tell you so many people feel this. . . This past year however I’ve had some incredible people in my life, and with their help, I’ve found my direction, I’ve become the person who I wanted to be, not one anybody else expected me to be, or not someone who copped out and didn’t make hard decisions. It was a bumpy ride doing so, but because of it, I’m now someone who I can look in the mirror and say I’m damn proud to be you. . . So despite everything crazy that’s happened in the world, this past year has actually been the kindest to me, because it’s helped me grow so much as a person and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Speak up 🗣 to avoid unnecessary antibiotic use + protect your gut and prevent future disease. Here I am in the pediatrics section of the hospital - where gut health begins (that and I love Keith Haring). I want to share with you all my story about something I just experienced with my almost 3 year old son. He got a big bite under his eye that swelled up. When it didn’t get better and almost swelled his eye shut, we signed up for a telemedicine consult with a pediatrician. The first thing they recommended was antibiotics. Now I’m not a pediatrician so I respect their assessment and plan but I wanted to make my standpoint clear. “My son has never taken antibiotics and I would like to prevent unnecessary use. Is there anything else we can do or are antibiotics necessary now?” Try a couple doses of Benadryl and a compress and if it’s not better by the evening, then take the antibiotics, she said. Well, after the Benadryl and compresses, he was much better. And like that, I narrowly escaped unnecessary antibiotic use in my child’s growing microbiome. Let’s talk about Vital Signs! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🏩 Vital signs provide us with critical information needed to make treatment decisions. Above are the normal ranges for ADULT vital signs. Have these values memorized, you will need them for the rest of your nursing career! 🩺 We typically monitor our patient’s vital signs q4h, q8h or q12h (1-3 times) every shift but it varies for every patient! Know your patient’s baseline vitals - it will be easier for you to determine any abnormal values. I like to take a look at the patient’s chart prior to the start of the shift to make note of their previous vitals. Remember each patient will have different baseline values depending on their current health and health history. ❗️ Remember: patients with COPD often have lower oxygen saturation and the range between 88-92% is normal and safe. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 👩🏻⚕️ Nursing students: report any abnormal values to your clinical instructor or your nurse.
