Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a prevalent psychiatric disorder that affects 6.7 percent of American adults with the highest rates in those 18-25 (10.9%). Studies have observed that physical exercise can bring benefits as adjunctive and individual therapy in the treatment of MDD or be a strategy for the prevention of MDD. ⠀ Dysregulation of the immune system and persistent inflammation are inherent characteristics of recurrent MDD. Proinflammatory cytokines can decrease serotonin levels in the brain and generally alter neurotransmission and brain signaling in brain regions important for emotion regulation and mood. Purpose: This study aimed to determine how varying protein intakes, including a new tracer-derived safe intake, alter whole body protein metabolism and exercise performance during training. Methods: Using a double-blind randomized crossover design, 10 male endurance-trained runners (age, 32 ± 8 yr; V˙O2peak, 65.9 ± 7.9 mL O2·kg·min) performed three trials consisting of 4 d of controlled training (20, 5, 10, and 20 km·d, respectively) while consuming diets providing 0.94 (LOW), 1.20 (MOD), and 1.83 (HIGH) g protein·kg·d. Whole body protein synthesis, breakdown, and net balance were determined by oral [N]glycine on the first and last day of the 4-d controlled training period, whereas exercise performance was determined from maximum voluntary isometric contraction, 5-km time trial, and countermovement jump impulse (IMP) and peak force before and immediately after the 4-d intervention. Results: Synthesis and breakdown were not affected by protein intake, whereas net balance showed a dose-response (HIGH MOD LOW, P 0.05) with only HIGH being in positive balance (P 0.05). There was a trend (P = 0.06) toward an interaction in 5-km Time Trial with HIGH having a moderate effect over LOW (effect size = 0.57) and small effect over MOD (effect size = 0.26). IMP decreased with time (P 0.01) with no effect of protein (P = 0.56). There was no effect of protein intake (P ≥ 0.06) on maximum voluntary isometric contraction, IMP, or peak force performance. Nos dias 20 e 21, a testagem será realizada no CEU Pimentas, localizado na estrada do Caminho Velho, 351. E nos dias 27 e 28 será no CEU Presidente Dutra, situado no final da rua Maria de Paula Motta. Para fazer o teste no mutirão não é necessário agendamento prévio, basta levar documento de identidade e cartão do SUS. A única restrição é não estar com síndrome gripal no dia do exame. No entanto, as pessoas que já tiveram contato com pacientes infectados pelo novo coronavírus também têm a opção de agendar o teste rápido nas Unidades Básicas de Saúde. O agendamento deve ser feito de forma presencial. Read on for tips I use when I look at an abdominal CT... 👨🏽💻Coming into radiology as someone who was mainly concerned with what was going on above the diaphragm I found the world of abdominal CT fairly daunting. But by getting to grips with the anatomy of the abdomen things became a whole lot clearer 👨🏽💻At this level of the abdomen we get a nice demonstration of the superior mesenteric artery – we can’t see the superior mesenteric vein here but normally the vein should lie to the right of the artery at the level of the pancreas, if this is reversed then consider intestinal malrotation which can predispose to midgut volvulus 👨🏽💻I always check to see there is a clean layer of fat surrounding the SMA – if this is infiltrated consider a malignant pathology such as a pancreatic tumour 👨🏽💻Always follow the vessels no matter which CT it is you’re looking at, be it head, neck, chest or abdomen. I always follow the portal veins within the liver formed at the confluence by the splenic vein (which runs posterior to the pancreas) and the superior mesenteric vein which runs vertically. In patients with liver cirrhosis and pancreatitis in particular you are looking for a filling defect or occluded vessel representing thrombosis 👨🏽💻There aren’t many retroperitoneal structures that cross the midline but the left renal vein is one of them – characteristically this passes anterior to the aorta from the left kidney to the IVC but in some people this can have a retroaortic course where it passes behind the aorta. I have seen the occasional incidental left renal vein thrombosis so it is worth checking for filling defects! This is a must in cases of renal cell carcinoma which likes to spread into the IVC via the renal veins 🔻@theradiologistpage - @theradiologistpage on Instagram
