What’s your current goal?! As most of you know I’ve been thru all the ups and downs mentally, physically and emotionally especially in my 20’s! Weight has ALWAYS been a struggle for me. 3 year increments have taught me many trial and errors to find my BALANCE. Which brings me to today. Finding my balance has been such a blessing. Not having to worry about every gram of food I put in my mouth and having to track it, allowing myself to skip the gym to have dinner and wine with my girlfriends, going on vacations without the fear of not being 100% on track etc. HOWEVER I do have a majority of the days lately where I know I can be better to achieve a more “confident” body & mind. Self love is HARD and I’ve come so far with it which makes me really proud of myself. But I don’t want to lose sight of my goals just because I’m comfortable. Feeling stagnant makes me very anxious which is what I’m feeling a lot of lately... I’m craving some sort of change. This upcoming week I’m going to make it a goal to prep ALL my meals & make an effort to switch them up, get a better idea of a fresh calorie count to stay within without obsessing/tracking every little thing, get to the gym 5-6x and cardio atleast 4x for 20 min. Outside of that, I want to connect with some new faces, start a new book and dig into being more creative (challenge myself) instead of going thru the same ole motions. Overall make sure to prioritize my health a little better to feel that confidence boost more and more each day! It’s been a minute since I’ve done side by side pics. Alcohol is far more harmful than most people think, and it’s very important that you understand how this drug (yes, alcohol is a drug) is affecting your progress. This is not an anti-drug speech, but if you’re serious about achieving a truly impressive physique, you should definitely be aware of the 5 main ways that alcohol is slowing down your gains… 1) It negatively affects protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is the process where amino acids are joined together to form complete proteins. It’d be interesting to see data on the muscle mass added in this time. During this time I recall yo-yo dieting about every other year weighing: 335, 260, 285, 308, 335, 365, 400+, and now 315 again. This is the healthiest my body (aside from my spine) has felt since right after college. I don’t know what’s next, if I’ll ever compete, if I’ll ever train normally, if I’ll ever hit goals I set almost a decade ago I was dead set on reaching that now seem impossible. What I know: I won’t be 400lbs, and if I yo-yo in weight it’ll be because it was planned and good for me. Ugh. . Here it is. 40 weeks. . I made it to 39 weeks and 4 days of working out before I called it quits. Same with eating relatively healthy as well. I won’t lie that these last few days we haven’t been eating the best. Although I am still trying to sub in for good foods when I can, we have been grabbing a lot of on the run foods. I’m over it all to be blunt. . If he doesn’t come on his own we are set to be induced on Friday at 3:00am. I’m excited to meet Weston and I’m also excited to get a routine / normality / start working on my self again. He’s our last baby so I’m thrilled to know that there is no end in sight for my next health and fitness journey. It’s a big mental road block knowing what your body will endure again but it’s also important to know that even though this may all seem bleak, it actually does help you and baby a lot to move and stay healthy. . These comparison photos are from the beginning of my prep last year (left, January 2019) vs. the beginning of my current prep (right, September 2020). Both are 6 months out from my show. ⁣ ⁣ They are both starting points. ⁣ This is to show you that not only does it take a lot of time to transform your body’s composition, but also your body continues to improve and start from a “better” starting point each time you decide to not give up. I will now be able to go that much further in this prep because I’m starting from a better, stronger, healthier place than last time. ⁣ ⁣ Am I inconsistent sometimes? Yes.⁣ Do I miss meals sometimes? Yes.⁣ Do I dread the gym sometimes? Yes.⁣ Do I make lame excuses sometimes? Yes. ⁣ ⁣ I’m human. I don’t try to be perfect. I just try to be better. Improvement is sustainable, perfection is not. ⁣ ⁣ I encourage anyone who sees this to keep going. The time is going to pass anyway. Barbell Bench Press Edition 👰⠀ ⠀ 👀 Let’s look at the traditional barbell bench press - Monday’s exercise (and sometimes an everyday exercise for some people...) 🗓 ⠀ ⠀ 🔄 The traditional barbell bench press is an internally rotatING motion that compresses our thorax in a front to back direction - thus, limiting our ability to rotate (this can be good or not so good depending on our goal)⠀ ⠀ Any exercise that is bilateral, symmetrical (squat, barbell bench press, chin-up, row) is a compressive strategy. Unilateral, asymmetrical strategies will usually promote more rotation. ⠀ ⠀ 🤔 So why do the traditional bench press? ⠀ ⠀ 👉 The main reasons to do this particular exercise are:⠀ ⠀ 1. If you want to be a better bench presser (either powerlifting for sport or just to be better at being jacked and tan)⠀ ⠀ 2. To create compression and stiffness (Football Lineman or someone that is just weak overall and needs more stiffness)⠀ ⠀ 🚫 The main reasons to NOT perform the traditional bench press (or to at least modify it or have this be a small portion of your program):⠀ ⠀ 1. It hurts. Modify your pressing. There are soooo many variations. Find one that feels better and then sprinkle on barbell bench press as tolerated. ⠀ ⠀ 2. That I wanted to keep some curves and more importantly, be STRONG. ⁣ ⁣ So I dedicated myself to taking weight off slowly by eating clean most of the time (I’m a firm believer in the 80/20 rule) and quit being a cardio queen. I picked up some weights and started working on a new and healthy goal, and I haven’t really looked back. ⁣ ⁣ Sure, at 20, I loved being able to shop the smallest section of Hollister. But I wasn’t happy with the mirror even at that size. But at 34? I’m okay with my size 12 jeans, the toning in my legs and arms and tummy that I’ve never seen before, and I don’t have to starve myself to maintain it. ⁣ ⁣ Your goals might shift, and that’s okay! Things no one talks about : life after being a performance athlete. . . The problem with weight gain / loss, is it doesn’t tell even a fraction of the story. . . There are YEARS between each of those pictures and in all of those years life looked so different. . . When I first started to lose weight it was ultimately to heal my hormones. As I got fitter I got more competitive with myself and it was the perfect time for that. . . The first time I stepped on stage at 127lbs and the smallest I had ever been, it was to heal my confidence. I needed to feel good in the body I worked so hard to heal and break my limiting belief that I wasn’t enough. . . And in this past year I have struggled to understand WHY I gained weight when I was my fittest physically. . . It was to heal my anxiety and all the emotions that came with a year full of grief. . . This new journey is to combine all 3 of these women. The one who is healing hormones, the one who needs a boost of confidence, and the one who is ready to move past the grief. . . Grilled/Baked lean meats, whole grains, more veggies, lots of water, low sugar fruits, 3 healthy snacks and 3 healthy small meals daily to keep your metabolism going. 6.) Aim for 3-5 days of exercise, 30 min-1 hour at the least. Healthy eating accompanied with physical activity boosts weight loss results! 7.) Understand that plateaus happen, take a breath, and push harder! Our bodies get comfortable with our routine. Look into your diet, go harder longer on your workouts. Push your body to start moving and losing again! It’s all within your power to do so. 8.) Be proud of every little accomplishment! Celebrate your victories, you are a badass!!! 9.) Accept your flaws. Мечта отремонтировать ее и отправиться в кругосветку начала обретать свои очертания. ⠀ Пытался еще перевести ее во Владивосток в начале лета, но яхта оказалась негабаритным грузом (а по форпосту подобные первозки переваливают за сотку и выше). Перевезти с первого раза не удалось. ⠀ Долго думал и взвешивал. Лето прошло. ⠀ Недели две  назад, благодаря поиском через @blog_vladivostok нашел ребят, которые согласились перевезти достаточно бюджетно для такого груза и расстояния. ⠀ Отдал все свои деньги,  до последнего за перевозку - 70 000 руб. ⠀ От Находки до Владивостока 54 000 трал+кран А так,  как трал не проходил по дворам, пришлось и здесь заказывать кран и еще одну машину  (20 000) ⠀ Если бы еще чуть чуть протянул по времени, то и от мечты бы пришлось отказаться. It’s been 5 years since I started my journey, which has required lots of hard work and dedication. Is your effort in the gym matching your results? Okay so this is predominantly aimed at my fellow female sisters here, but guys can take note to! Let me paint a picture of a girl who at the start of her #gymjourney was hardly eating (dieting meant 800 calories or “no carbs” all the fads!) and 2 hour gym sessions of either circuit class, spinning or running on the treadmill.. Can you see the trend here? Cardio .. Cardio .. oh yeah and a bit more Cardio! I feared the weights room because “Weights are for men and make you manly” .. no they don’t! And I lacked the knowledge to know what the heck to do in there so sticking to the safe cardio zone felt better! However the cardio and extreme diet left me looking skinny and I had hardly any muscle and for me I went to the gym to look toned and it was doing the opposite! I opened my world to the weights room and when I did I never looked back! My body changed beyond what I’d ever thought! I gained some muscle (I finally got the butt I wanted.. bonus!) and in turn the way my body composition improved meant I looked leaner at a heavier weight! Wie fühlst du dich mit deiner Haut am Bauch?! 🤷🏼‍♀️ Das ist eine gute Frage. Ich sehe nach und nach wie mein Bauch schlaffer wird und meine Haut hängt... das Gewebe schlaffer wird und man meine Dehnungsstreifen zunehmend sieht. Optisch stört mich das mal so gar nicht tatsächlich 🤷🏼‍♀️ Es ist meine Geschichte, die mein Körper mit sich trägt und das ist okay so ♥️ Ganz lange Zeit habe ich meine hängende Haut auch gar nicht wahrgenommen. Es war für mich selbstverständlich, dass mein Bauch beim Sitzen und auch im Stehen vollständig aufgefüllt war und deutlich über meine Brust hinausragte. Mittlerweile hat sich viel geändert. Erstmal bewerte ich meinen Bauch nicht mehr so wie früher. Ob er vorsteht oder irgendwo hervorsieht... er gehört zu mir. Ende aus Micky Maus... 🤷🏼‍♀️ ♥️ Und dann hat es einfach auch sehr lange gebraucht, dass ich realisiert habe, dass ich viel Bauchmasse abgenommen habe. Ich habe zwar immer noch eine ordentliche Fettschicht unter der Bauchdecke ... aber ich kann mittlerweile meinen gesamten Bauch hochziehen an der Haut. Das war früher undenkbar, weil er einfach prall gefüllt war 🤷🏼‍♀️ Ich bin froh, dass sich mein Bild von mir selber und meinem Bauch einfach gewandelt hat ♥️ Und ich glücklicher bin als vorher! Captain @joeyamartin was at it again late into the Indiana evening with the Lake County recruits! He has a solid understanding of the importance of repetitive air consumption drills. Knowing your limits on a 30 or 45 minute bottle can be the difference of life or death in some situations. Let’s face it, the number of minutes a bottle should last and does last are two different animals. Normally it takes a ton of equipment and a lot of time setting up and dismantling a good air consumption drill but not with The Firesled.
