Seen the Hammer Strength Glute/Ham in the gym and not sure how to use it? Set up by placing your feet against the back plate and your knees resting on or slightly behind the pads. Fold your arms across your chest and slowly lean forwards until your torso is parallel to the floor. Return to starting position using your hamstrings to pull yourself backwards, making sure to keep the glutes activated. Feel the stretch in your glutes and hamstrings and then return to starting position. We go to battle with no other enemy but self. Todays leg workout was fairly basic, but just the right amount of intensity for our goals. I purposely kept weight fairly light to avoid injury here before the competition. I also used some self tanner over the weekend so I can see how things are looking with a little color. No sun tanning for me after the melanoma earlier this year. This will increase performance & decrease the risk of injury during any form of physical activity. When warming up, itโs very important to choose purposeful movement patterns that practice the specific motor skill/ skills for that day. โฃโฃ โฃโฃ Usually most of our warmups are โgeneralโ & can get repetitive (ie, running on treadmill, riding stationary bike, static stretching, etc.), finding ourselves doing the same thing everyday. Using specific & progressive movement patterns during our warmup keeps you more engaged & allows you to get more out of the warmup in the context of upcoming training. โฃโฃ โฃโฃ Some days can seem hard to get started if we warmup in a slow manner, then jump right into our workout that requires us to be moving at a faster pace. Our brain receives information it takes in & reacts accordingly, so the faster those signals from the brain travel, the better they are at allowing muscles to turn off & on in the order weโd like them to during our workouts. โฃโฃ โฃโฃ We wanna use the progressive nature of the warmup, where we start at a low intensity, then gradually build us toward high intensity, or to the level of intensity we will be training at. In this warmup Iโm performing two exercises that will help prepare the glutes & hamstrings before my workout. โฃโฃ These help me understand how I need to move & position my body while in a simple environment during the warmup, giving me something my body can reference back to, when we approach more complex movement patterns. โฃโฃ โฃโฃ โฃโฃ If you struggle with getting your workout or day started much quicker than youโd like, send me an email ๐ง, DM or comment below. Squats are a foundational movement that we integrate with most clients in many forms. Foot positioning can be wide or narrow to help target different ranges of motion and muscles involved. Adding dumbbells is a good way to progress from a body weight version to improve your strength, endurance, and/or power. _ Move Tip: Stand in good posture with the feet about hip width, spine extended, and shoulder blades pulled down & back. Inhale and hinge at the hips as you lean the upper body forward and hinge at the hips. Stop at the desired position, making sure that your pelvis stays neutral and does not tilt posterior, or hips tuck under. ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐บ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ต๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น ๐๐ป๐ฒ๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ผ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐: Do you have pain during squatting and lunging exercises? It could be related to increased patellofemoral compression. Patellofemoral pain can have many causes (genetic, body habitus, exercise technique), and one common symptom is pain during loaded bending of the knee, which is common in most lower body training exercises. Some effective techniques for reducing these symptomsย are strengthening terminal knee extension and squatting with reduced compression at the knee joint. Terminal knee extension (TKE) occurs when you straighten your knee maximally. To add resistance, you can place an anchored band behind your knee and set yourself up so there is tension on the band with ~10 degrees of bend in your knee. From there you simply straighten your knee fully and pause briefly. Try to accumulate fatigue in your quadriceps near your knee joint. Spanish squats require a similar setup, but instead of extending your knee, youll be performing a squat with the anchored band pulling against your knee. Because of the way the knee joint moves on itself, this is an effective way to reduce compressive force through the knee joint.
