🔥INTERSCAPULAR PAIN🔥 ➡️ Are you dealing with a nagging discomfort in between your shoulder blade and spine? 🙋🏻♀️ This type of nagging pain is often considered a rhomboid issue since it is a relatively superficial muscle in the area. While you can try to release the muscle with a tennis ball 🎾, a lack of thoracic mobility can also commonly contribute to this issue 🙌🏼. ➡️ To fix interscapular pain, we should be looking at many different contributors 💢, which can include the cervical spine, thoracic spine, ribs, shoulder joint, scapulothoracic joint, scapular nerves and the trapezius, pecs, serratus anterior and paraspinal muscles to name a few 😆. ✅ This post will be focused on improving thoracic mobility since this is a common cause for discomfort in the interscapular region 🔥. Poor thoracic mobility is often coupled with poor scapular mobility and stability, which can further contribute to the discomfort or pain 💢. ✅ Give these exercises a try and see if they help 🤗🙌🏼! 1. Thoracic Extensions on Foam Roller 2. Lat Stretch with Thoracic Rotations 3. Kneeling Cat Cows 4. The reality of having pointed toes (and arched feet) _ I get a lot of questions about how to pointe toes and how to get that arch. _ Its possible to strengthen feet, and to use certain stretches to bring your feet to YOUR optimum position; but heres the reality of dancers/ballerina pretty pointed toes you see _ A good ballet school holds auditions each year to select only a few out of 1000s of dancers. They look for certain attributes, which one is the shape of their feet. _ For every ballet dancers feet you see, they most likely already have the right feet. They were born with it and also worked on strengthening as a child. _ So, although possible for some to gain an arch, sometimes the feet you see are their natural pointe. And I saw a poll that was given to a different program about what classes were most important, and marketing had like 1 vote. If we think that a class about ultrasound is far more important than marketing and sales…..then the future of our profession has a problem 😳 We are continuing to work to become PRIMARY 👏🏼 CARE 👏🏼 PROVIDERS 👏🏼 for musculoskeletal conditions - but we can’t become that if we continue to depend on referrals to get patients. The fact that we need to SELL our services is never talked about, so that’s why we are so uncomfortable with saying it. The BIGGEST misconception that I had for a long time was that if someone was in pain, they would automatically come see me. ❌ WRONG ❌ Because they can just go to the store and get painkillers and never have to deal with a real person - and people like the easy way out 😜 That is why we NEED to learn how to sell the value of our services in a way that means something to the patient. ✅ WHY should they put in the work to see us instead of taking pills. ✅ WHY is it better to see us rather than get surgery right away. ✅ WHY is it better to come to use for shoulder pain rather than going to their PCP who they already may trust. Your services are sold to the patient. And you enjoy how your services help people. We know inside that our health has something to do with the health of the air, soil, water and animals that we rely on. While short termism punishes the environment around us for monetary gain, we lose out in the end. It seems like covid fell out of the blue, but a pandemic like this (or worse) has been on the cards for a while. Governments have been warned by scientists and international bodies that industrial farming and our rates of deforestation put us at a high risk of disease. The good news is that those same scientists and international bodies have made a plan to avoid future pandemics. It takes the form of #onehealth. This has been around for a while, thanks to the @who and the @fao, and is an infinitely sensible guide for governments to follow. It is based on common sense: a healthy planet means healthy people. This is quite a revolution to our society, Im sure youd agree. But we know it to be true. Each of these suggestions can be acted upon on an individual level as well as a policy level. We can support local farmers and boycott supermarket meat and dairy. We can fight to save the forests near our homes. We can foster a relationship with and love of the natural world in ourselves and our children. We dont know how bad this or the next pandemic will be, but we know what needs to happen to stop them.
