If you’re tight for time and need a quick full body routine, grab two DBs, KBs, heck even two milk jugs and follow this short circuit demonstrated by @dangiordanodpt Compound Exercise 1) single leg deadlift into a bent over row. Major Muscles Hit: hamstrings, hips into erector spinae & lats Compound Exercise 2) reverse lunge into an overhead press. Major Muscles Hit: quads, glutes into deltoids and triceps. Perform the first exercise for 30 seconds on one leg before switching to the other leg. Try to get in as many reps as you can before your 30 seconds is up and you have to switch limbs. At the end of 1 minute, move to exercise two following the same routine. Hit the circuit three times through! Hock, how might this be related to fat loss? I guess it really depends on how you look at fat loss. If youre looking at fat loss purely for how you look or you just want to achieve it quickly, then it might seem as though this isnt related to fat loss at all. But! If youre looking at fat loss as a process, something to build long term habits on and something that you want to be able to sustain for a long time... Then joint mobility and longevity is probably something you want to focus on in that process as well. ⁣ 💻 Hamstring Movement Prep⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⏭ SWIPE LEFT ☑️ SAVE & TRY LATER⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Movement preparation is needed to help prepare us for the physical demands of training. This will increase performance & decrease the risk of injury during any form of physical activity. When warming up, it’s very important to choose purposeful movement patterns that practice the specific motor skill/ skills for that day. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Usually most of our warmups are “general” & can get repetitive (ie, running on treadmill, riding stationary bike, static stretching, etc.), finding ourselves doing the same thing everyday. Using specific & progressive movement patterns during our warmup keeps you more engaged & allows you to get more out of the warmup in the context of upcoming training. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Some days can seem hard to get started if we warmup in a slow manner, then jump right into our workout that requires us to be moving at a faster pace. Our brain receives information it takes in & reacts accordingly, so the faster those signals from the brain travel, the better they are at allowing muscles to turn off & on in the order we’d like them to during our workouts. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ We wanna use the progressive nature of the warmup, where we start at a low intensity, then gradually build us toward high intensity, or to the level of intensity we will be training at. In this warmup I’m performing two exercises that will help prepare the glutes & hamstrings before my workout. ⁣⁣ These help me understand how I need to move & position my body while in a simple environment during the warmup, giving me something my body can reference back to, when we approach more complex movement patterns. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ If you struggle with getting your workout or day started much quicker than you’d like, send me an email 📧, DM or comment below. 🔶Quad Resisted Trigger Point Release using an Acumobility Loop Band and 2 Acumobility Balls under each quad. This is a combined hamstring stability, quad mobility exercise and an excellent advancement to a standard Quad Release because the loop bands help engage the hamstrings. The raised leg resists the band as the bottom foot lowers to the ground. Start a few inches above the knee, and Do a set of 20. Then move up to the next spot and repeat 20. And finally a 3rd spot and repeat 20. See second image for ball location in the center of the quad. . ⚠️this exercise is for educational purposes only. ‼️HAMSTRING TIGHTNESS‼️⁣ ⁣ ❗️Hamstrings. Oof. The feel especially tight after sitting for a while. ⁣ ✅ SAVE THIS! ⁣ 🔹 “stretching feels good because of the play on the nervous system. Actually gaining long-term length in the muscle requires adaptation so it lasts longer (i.e. strengthening, eccentrics, a topic for another day). ⁣ ⁣ 🔶 However, you CAN get some relief and temporary length with these tricks!⁣ ⁣ 🔑Major key with hamstring stretches: stretch the muscle, not the nerve! ⁣ 👉🏼 The sciatic nerve runs all the way down and is on the biggest stretch with a round back, straight leg, and flexed up ankle. ⁣ 👉🏼 Soooo avoid that. Especially if with sciatica. Theme through the whole video: [slightly] bent knee work!⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ Active Lengthening: Practice your hip hinge, learn what a bent knee means, and tilt the pelvis to stretch from where it attaches to -- the sit bones (ischial tuberosity).⁣ 2️⃣ Supine Hamstring Stretch: Great stretch, easy to mess up and flare symptoms. An opposite leg straight is more intense. ⁣ 3️⃣ PNF: Meet the most magical thing in PT next to joint mobilizations. ⁣ 4️⃣ Kneeling heel drags: Werk that length! Extend out into a stretch, squeeze glutes and contract hammy to bring it back. Tall spine all the time. ⁣ ⁣ 👉🏼 Everything is controlled, everything is within a tolerable and comfortable range. “What’s one tip that you’ve learned to get the most out of your home workouts?” 🏡 Here are a few total body exercises to try out with your bands (I use @hopefitnessgear bands!), then we’ll get into mourning the loss of our gym memberships. 😂 🏡 Romanian Deadlift (pull through your glutes and hams, not your upper back! Think “hands are hooks!”) 🏡 Seated Row (make your band harder or easier by adjusting how far apart your feet are!) 🏡 Seated Rotation (take a hard breath out as you pull the tension across your body in order to contract your obliques as hard as possible!) 🏡 Lateral Raise (depress your shoulder blades, and lift your arms only as high as you can while keeping the tension in your delts!) 📌 Do you have any friends who could use some new resistance band exercise ideas? Tag them in the comments below! 💡 Let’s get right to the point: Working out at home doesn’t inherently suck, but it’s definitely not a total replacement for barbells and cables at the gym. Do you know what’s kept me sane during all the gym closures here? 🧠 My resistance bands. (Also, I’m in Arizona, so you may have heard about our gym closure extravaganza going on right now. 😅) Anyway, I can safely say the same for the majority of my clients - in fact, when everything started to shut down, I made sure they all had a good set of bands to workout with because they have been wildly helpful for us all! To answer the opening question though… Using resistance bands would definitely be a huge tip for getting the most out of your home workouts, but here’s another one! 💡 Especially if you’re struggling to find the motivation to workout at home, I’ve found that doing shorter, more frequent workouts has been super helpful. Why? They simply don’t take as much energy or willpower to start or complete. 15 minutes per day can be much better than one weekly 2 hour, intense-but-boring workout. How about you?
