“I’m an ectomorph. I’ll never build muscle.” “It’s not fair – she must be a mesomorph.” “Dieting never works for me. Being an endomorph sucks.” Just how horoscopes and personality types are popular – body types are too. We like to classify ourselves, take quizzes, figure out what category we belong to... But at what cost? Now, I’m not here to discount genetics, because they do play a role. There’s some *science* involved in “body types” (e.g. biological/genetic underpinning) but that doesn’t mean EVIDENCE BASED. My argument 👉 we take this piece WAY too far. Especially given that somatotypes were created by a racist psychologist to determine your “worthiness” as a human, not who can tolerate more carbs or build more muscle lol ^ additional “fun” fact 👉 the guy that created somatotypes based them on white men only — women or folks of other races weren’t included due to “inherent inferiority” 🙃 BASICALLY, somatotypes are a bullshit way for you to explain *why* you aren’t making progress and someone else is. Only you can change your story. Often people think that just because they hire a nutrition coach or sign up to a gym and get a personal trainer, they will automatically get their dream body. No. A nutrition coach can only guide you and make recommendations. A personal trainer can only write you a program of what to do. At the end of the day, I can’t make you eat more whole foods. I can’t make you eat less food. I can’t stop you from eating an entire packet of chips. I can’t make you go to the gym. I can’t make you do the actual workout. There is no magic pill. I dont care what what you believe about carbs and weight (as in cut carbs, lose weight). You need to eat enough (including carbs) to not only lose weight in a healthy sustainable manner if that is a goal for you, but to stay in a healthy weight range for your body. Carbs are your bodys main source of fuel and necessary for every bodily function. Bottom line: If you are a human being (you are!), you need carbs to function happily. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now for the disclaimer. I recommend that you focus on including mostly quality carbohydrate sources in your diet. These are the more nutritious fiber-rich sources of carbs that come from the earths soil like fruits and vegetables and whole grains. There is obviously a nutrition disparity between a donut and an apple. The donut contains added sugar and no fiber for example, while the apple has natural fiber, vitamins and minerals. You are much more likely to eat 3 donuts than 3 apples because of the physiological and psychological effects that they have on your mind and body. However, ALL sources of delicious carbs are ABSOLUTELY part of a healthy diet if you give yourself permission to include them. When you allow yourself to eat the gooey brownie (like the real deal not the black bean 😂) you may actually begin to have one, enjoy it, and move on without the emotion and guilt that you used to associate with baked goods when one would lead to eating the whole batch. I dont know about you, but I LOVE baked goods. But theres a difference between overeating them once in a while (like I do) just because theyre delicious vs. binging on them because theyre not allowed in your diet and you will start over tomorrow without brownies in your future. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You need carbs to function. Theyre part of a healthy and happy lifestyle no matter what your goals happen to be. Focus on the more nutritious ones. 🌟5 tips to reduce inflammation🌟 It is easy to be overwhelmed by all the should, shouldnt in order to be healthy. I can relate so here is my 5 tips to help with inflammation and to feel your best. 🌟Eat more whole, plant-based, nutrient-dense food. The right nutrition is key. Crowd out the foods that cause inflammation (refined sugar and flour, processed junk etc.) Eat more anti-inflammatory foods such as fruits and vegetables, foods containing omega-3 fatty acids, whole grains, lean protein, healthful fats, seeds and spices. 🌟Gut health, Your gut holds approximately 60-70 percent of your immune system, so it’s a great place to start if you want to reduce chronic inflammation. And if your gut is in bad shape, your immune system might be in some serious trouble. One easy way to start improving your gut health is by adding a high quality probiotic like pure. 🌟 Listen to your body, you could be fighting a losing battle if you’re ignoring potential food sensitivities and/or infections. If your body is working to cope and fight these challenges every day, you can bet that you’re not winning the battle with inflammation. 🌟 Relax and rest. Your body is hard at work repairing and restoring your glorious cells while you sleep. Most doctors recommend 7-8 hours of sleep per night. It’s a common misconception that if you workout every day that you’ll get into better shape. The truth is that your body needs to rest so that your muscles can repair themselves, otherwise you’ll constantly be in a state of body fatigue. Make sure to schedule rest days in between your workouts so your body can repair itself and to eat healthy foods before your workouts for energy and after to replenish proteins and nutrients.
