Disposable face masks are becoming a growing concern for the environment😷😷😷 The first day after face masks became mandatory on all public transports in Denmark, we see a very clear increase in these disposable masks in and around bins at trafic hotspots, as well as throughout the city streets. Of course we need to take care of ourselves and one another, but the environment and public health do not need to be on opposing sides. covidchallenge.co.uk As the heroes of our NHS save lives, scientists around the world race towards a vaccine, and key workers work around the clock, we want to leverage the currently unspent potential of university students in the UK and Ireland to help mitigate the economic, social and of course medical impacts of COVID-19. We are issuing an immediate call to arms to all students across the UK and Ireland, both in Sixth Form and higher education. Students of any year group and discipline are welcome to participate, but we will promote the challenge primarily to the most engaged STEM students within their respective university communities. We want to co-ordinate students from across these isles and help young people play our role in the battle against COVID-19. Entries will open at 12pm midday on Thursday, the 26th March, and close at 11:59pm on Tuesday, the 31st of March. The challenge will begin at 07:30am on Wednesday, the 01st April and last until 11:59pm on Monday, the 06th of April. Students will sign up individually and state their experience and expertise and be matched with a diverse range of four teammates from across the UK and Ireland as we want to promote collaborative innovation in these times of crisis. Students may harness hardware, software or both, and can either choose to submit a general project tackling a particular issue they have identified, or else choose to tackle one of our specified issues, which include PPE distribution, loneliness among the self-isolated and the decline in physical health due to limited exercise. The entire challenge will take place online, with students collaborating using Google Hangouts and putting their pitch together using Google Slides. In light of the rapidly increasing infection rate and number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Arizona, LGO Hospitality is instating a policy requiring guests to wear face masks until seated at a table starting June 16, 2020. Restaurants include La Grande Orange Grocery & Pizzeria, Ingo’s Tasty Food, Chelsea’s Kitchen, Cake Shop and Buck &Rider. Now, in addition, all guests who wish to dine in any LGO restaurant will be required to wear face masks, bandanas, or coverings of choice from the time they enter the building until they are seated at a table. After the meal has concluded, guests will need to put the face coverings back on as they exit the building. This policy will stay in effect for the foreseeable future. In addition, LGO asks both guests and team members to wear a mask while moving about the dining room, as one would in any public place. Story of a NON COVID Physician rather a Warrior as they say.. Does it feel like one? A warrior? Definitely not. Working in a non covid hospital is keeping your guard on for all the pediatric, geriatric, surgical and immunodeficient patients, especially when were based in a rural set up where we were supplied PPEs super late. Weve been highly alert during the past six months. Or seven. Sorry, Ive lost count of time now. Even after being highly vigilant, we got patients feeding us with false history and hiding their symptoms at the stake of healths of skilled labor. Thats what we physicians are. Skilled laborers. Why do I say so? Well, the wave started with patients testing positive, unfurling the physicians, the staff and my colleagues as well. I had my roommate turn positive and I got symptoms even after being in isolation. I was ill for 20 days straight but thankfully tested negative twice. I resumed duty right after but I still see my colleagues turning positive every day, hell, even while youre reading this piece, one of our fellow physician wouldve turned positive. Still we work for the greater good, keeping our emotions, exams, anxieties, fear and families aside to the point of being indifferent. The world is moving on but our battle still continues, we just put on a happy face because such is life. Weve lived in so much uncertainty that were now prepared to face anything and everything. City Council passed a face covering ordinance during a special public hearing on August 31. The ordinance is effective immediately, and will remain in effect through January 2, 2021 unless otherwise repealed or extended. City Council has determined that to continue to reduce the spread and infection of COVID-19, it is in the interest of the health and safety of all Concord citizens, residents, visitors, businesses, and the employees of our City and businesses, to wear face coverings while inside a retail establishment. This includes, but is not limited to, department stores, drug stores, convenience stores, grocery stores, and retail or wholesale stores. “Face covering” is defined as a covering made of cloth, fabric, or other soft or permeable material, without holes, that covers at least the nose, mouth, and surrounding areas of the lower face. A face covering may be factory made, homemade, or improvised from ordinary household material. Customers (ages five and older) are required to wear a face covering at all times when inside a retail establishment. A face covering is not required to be worn by any person in which doing so may pose a risk for health-related reasons. However, in these cases, special effort should be taken to maintain physical distance of at least six feet from other individuals. Members of the public utilizing City trails, sidewalks and other pedestrian public ways, or public recreational lands, are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings when a physical distance of six feet cannot be maintained from other individuals, but not required. To all WRUW listeners: In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that is sweeping the world right now, WRUW has been trying to bring comfort and normalcy to airwaves by not going off the air. Today we are shifting our operations to make it easier to keep our community safe from the virus: Starting today, **we have decided to temporarily cease our in-person broadcasting from Mather Memorial until further notice.** The decision was not easy to make. With this unprecedented situation on our hands, we needed to ensure the safety of our programmers was not being put in jeopardy by keeping up with normal station operations. The good news is that WERE NOT GOING SILENT. We will be using automation to play music from our digital library, still bringing the sound of WRUW to the airwaves. Right now those playlists are random, but we are working towards playing custom playlists made by the WRUW programmers you know and love in the days to come. Our programmers with access to at-home recording equipment will have the opportunity to remotely record their shows to play at the the regular time slot. We will keep our social media updated with any changes to these plans. WRUW is doing everything we can to keep our programmers safe while trying to provide the sounds our listeners love to hear. I have literally had enough now!! The vast majority of our customers are happy and willing to do whats asked while in our store. Thank You! For the tiny percentage who dont, we will NOT serve you! You may NOT enter! Imagine my disappointment and dismay to learn from my Staff Team, that some long-time customers have been giving them a hard time about mask-wearing and hand-sanitizing when Im not there. Heres the deal. We know most of our customers. When my Staff Team tells me theyve had an issue with someone we know refusing to follow our safety and protocol rules, you can be assured that I will be following up with that customer. That kind of behaviour is unacceptable to us. We are here for you, but You also need to follow the protocols we have in place. If you are unwilling to do so, you can shop elsewhere. Our first and foremost thought is the safety and protection of our Staff and our other customers. We are mandated by Toronto Public Health to operate in a way that protects the Community as a whole. We agree with the recommendations, because... science. Its NOT up to a customer to decide whether or not to pet Diego or Rupert. Its OUR decision, and currently they are not to be petted by customers. Veterinarians agree with us. Its OUR decision to allow a certain number of people inside the store. Not our customers. Its OUR decision and responsibility to ensure physical distancing inside the store. Not our customers. We understand that everyone has Covid Fatigue at this point in our collective journey. We do as well. Please do not take out your frustration on our Staff Team. We are here to help you with your pet needs. Were NOT here to be punching bags for your frustration. Nor is any other retail staff, restaurant staff or grocery staff. We hear the same problems happening from all our Danforth business neighbours. We are also stressed. Just like our customers. Because were people with families too. Were not just the happy Small Wonders people you see every day. We have personal stresses ourselves in this pandemic, outside of our workplace.
