Elizabeth’s gorgeous kunzite, amethyst, and diamond “Triphanes” sautoir by Van Cleef & Arpels was purchased for her in 1973 by her then-husband #RichardBurton. ⁣ ⁣ The beautiful lavender and violet necklace, bracelet and earrings were designed as a series of oval-cut kunzites, each within a circular-cut diamond surround, alternating with amethyst bead hoops, joined by circular-cut diamond links, and mounted in 18k gold. The necklace also features a detachable pendant.⁣ ⁣ Elizabeth wore these jewels on a number of occasions, particularly during the 1970s. September is Chiari Malformation Awareness Month! Yesterday I shared how my Chiari diagnosis began & today I’d like to elaborate on my journey a bit. 💜 One important factor to recognize is emotional trauma (stress) as a catalyst to the onset of symptoms. When my symptoms started, my reality had literally crumbled. My parents began a nasty divorce & my mother told me that my dad was not my biological father. It was topically surreal, I remember laughing when she told me, but deep inside I was crushed. Funny enough, I have a memory of meeting my dad, but it never clicked until then. Turns out my mother had gotten artificially inseminated during a prior marriage & my biological father was actually a donor! My legal last name hidden from me, I did not grow up as McPherson. No sooner had I heard this cataclysmic news than my body began failing me & I was being wheeled into surgery mere weeks later. This mental trauma manifesting itself physically is astoundingly phenomenal and is no coincidence (this has been an inspirational concept in my art for many years). The bright side of this is I am lucky in love that I have had 3 fathers! 💜 During my first Chiari decompression in 1990 they did a craniotomy (removed part of the base of my skull), duraplasty (opened up the brain dura & expanded it), a laminectomy (removed parts of the top 2 congenitally fused vertebrae) - all to make room for my spinal fluid to flow properly. It saved my life. The syrinx shrank and my spinal fluid flowed! Unfortunately they didn’t realize they exacerbated the instability in my naturally unstable neck. Nowadays Chiari surgeons know they need to fuse the craniocervical junction during the Chiari surgery when they see signs of instability. Almost immediately my cervical spine began to collapse into kyphosis, revealing it’s slow deterioration through my annual MRI scans. I wouldn’t fully realize the gravity of this precarious situation until earlier this year, when all the neurosurgeons I saw recommended a full neck fusion to keep my spinal cord from being crushed, and I dove deep into researching WHY. 💜 Continued in the comments... - @taramcpherson on Instagram

CONVALESCENCE JOUR 104 Nous sommes donc un peu plus de 3 mois après mon hystérectomie. Mon corps est (presque) complètement remis et j’ai le droit de tout faire (sauf de la corde à sauter et des sports de contacts). Dis, terrain de basket, quand reviendras-tu? J’ai appris mes limites, physiques et mentales, j’ai été forcée d’apprendre à être un peu plus patiente et j’ai eu l’occasion de faire un tri sélectif de mon entourage bienveillant VS vampirisant. Autant d’apprentissages fort utiles pour la suite. Je remercie encore mille fois toutes les personnes, famille et ami.e.s qui m’ont soutenue et accompagnée pendant ma convalescence, de l’envoi de fleurs à la chasse aux collages féministes affichant mon nom, en passant par le « jeûne et randonnée » dans le Gers. Et je remercie la vie de nous avoir permis, à @bartolucci_enrico et moi d’arriver au bout du 2ème film, dans ce contexte rocambolesque, entre confinement, opération et autres canicules. Une Histoire à Soi, notre 2e documentaire, est désormais dans les starting-blocks pour bientôt voler de ses propres ailes. Et comme la vie est très généreuse, j’ai eu la chance de me voir remettre aujourd’hui un « Jeu de l’Oie, femmes et cinéma » par #marieleroy de la Mission Droits des Femmes de @villesaintdenis (graphisme @woooonder_p )!!! 2020 aura testé mes limites et j’en ressors avec plus de joie et de motivation que jamais. @Dr.AlenaRusso is a chiropractor and the owner of Russo Family Chiropractic.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ She has a passion for helping pregnant mamas, families, babies, and kids. After completing her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at McMaster University, she attended the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ While there she was selected to partake in a mission trip to the Dominican Republic, providing free chiropractic care. One patient was pregnant – after treating her, she stood up, and was shocked she no longer had low back pain.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Despite having minimal personal belongings, she took the bracelet off her wrist and gave it to Dr. Russo as token of her appreciation. This kind, creative, introspective woman, Gloria Vanderbilt, passed away one year ago today. I was fortunate to have had the opportunity to photograph her and her work on multiple occasions. She was always inviting and intriguing. This is a portrait I took of her in 2012, when she was a youthful 88 years old, shortly before one of her final exhibits. Many pieces in the show were inspired by “hiraeth,” a Welsh word with an ambiguous meaning that she described to me, beautifully, in the words of a writer she admired named Val Bethell. “It is a homesickness for a home to which you cannot return, a home which maybe never was; a nostalgia, the grief, for the lost places in your past ... the language of the soul, the call from the inner self, half forgotten, it speaks from the rocks, from the earth, from the trees, and in the waves. 3 years ago: one of the first paintings to start off my last year at GVSU studying Illustration. I was so unsure what life after college would look like for me...Still uncomfortable in my own skin. This photo was taken 3 years after one of my first heartbreaks. I cut off all my hair in an attempt to love the hair I was born with...all 4a, kinky, nappy curls. I straightened and relaxed my hair since I was 14.It took me until I was 21 to begin to love it. To stop seeing that silky, straight long hair was what would make me pretty and to trust what I was born with was beautiful too. To honor its versatility, to go from a 1 inch fade, French braids, to corn rows, box braids, twist outs, fro, and of course my iconic buns. Black hair is beautiful! Period.
