How to get enough protein when you don’t eat meat🤷♀️👇 My entire family turned veggie last year and I joined them when I moved back from Edinburgh. So here are a few tips I have to hit your protein goals without eating animals ❤️ @myprotein have a huge range of products containing whey protein and vegan protein. My favourites are the Clearwhey, baked cookies and the carb crusher bars. Where possible I go for the vegan options as the dairy in normal protein causes me to get spots😭 ❤️ Beans beans beans👍 just put them in everything🤷♀️ excellent source of protein and go well with all Mexican food (my fave) ❤️ Tofu is actually pretty good when you season it well! What happens when you lose the baby weight? Are all of your problems solved? Does your body magically look exactly how it did pre-baby? Is your postpartum depression gone? Does your baby love you more? (Spoiler alert: the short answer is absolutely not - you are so much more than the idea of “baby weight”) I get asked how I “bounced back” or how long it will take to get the “prebaby body back” or how quickly one can lose the baby weight and honestly? My body has never gone back to the way it was before having babies and I’m PROUD of that. My hips are wider, my skin is looser, I have more stretch marks, but I honestly don’t notice any of it until I stop and think about the idea of “bouncing back”. Who came up with that anyways? Who decided that women should for some reason return to the state they were in before going through a huge transformation, seemingly as if it didn’t happen at all? Who put pressure on us to operate like a rubber band instead of a human body that just gave new life? And now we’re supposed to just “snap back” as if that 10 month period never happened? It makes me sad for my former self that I put so much pressure on myself to lose the baby weight. It makes me sad for the pregnant women who are currently stressing every pound or the women comparing themselves to friends or influencers or the latest smoothed out picture on Instagram. I grew up surrounded by magazines with celebrities “stepping out one week after baby!” looking “amazing” in what I didn’t realize was a fully photoshopped, fine tuned photo. Now we see the same thing on Instagram; the unrealistic expectations haven’t gone anywhere, they’re just more accessible and quick. Take care of yourself, yes, workout, yes, but do it for YOU and nothing else. Your babies love you for you and that’s ALL that matters. Your mental and emotional health matter. The number on the scale does not. I’m damn proud of my body. I’m proud of its abilities. I don’t want to act like my pregnancies or postpartum recoveries didn’t happen. Cup 1/2 Full chats 🙃 Staying optimistic, inspired & on top of your sh*t might feel a little harder lately. Life is wEiRddddd right now; I find myself saying “what the heck has our world come to” almost daily. I have days where I feel stagnant, I have days where I feel unproductive, I have days where I feel like I am not doing enough and my anxiety is baddddd & I can’t pull myself out of the funk. BUT! I also have days where I feel organized & I am kicking ass + hopeful & excited for the future. The biggest difference in these two mentality’s?? 👇🏼 ~ it is a lot easier to have the cup 1/2 empty mentality. Feeling good + getting yourself to a place where you feel EmPoWeReD & motivated... that takes WORK. Sometimes that WORK, can be really f*cking hard ~ Here are a few daily practices I have been doing lately to remind myself that my cup is MORE THAN HALF FULL... & when I start to feel like it’s anything less I remind myself that my happiness is all in the hands of ME, MYSELF & I. 🙏🏼 Show gratitude for all that I have. 💖Remind myself that I have SO MUCH LOVE AROUND ME & that is enough within itself. 👊🏼Look back on where I was a year ago and say out loud “AUBRE, you have come so far. I am proud of you”. 💦Think about my SB community & how lucky I am to have cultivated such a supportive crew of women that I GET TO MOVE WITH every single day! 🌟Write down/think about my dreams & goals and a STEP I can take each every day to get closer to that. 💯Remind myself that is ALL GOING TO BE OK/WORK OUT as, it alwaysssssss does. I was crippled with anxiety all last weekend. If you could have seen me five years ago, you would have seen a young mom with a desire to do deep meaningful work but lost in the bunch. I was too caught up on my own reality. Let me tell you that shit was dark and confusing. I wont bs you and say I have it all figured out. I dont. What I do know is that I have mastered infusing my photography and doula work with my whole heart and I am ready to take it to the next level. Birth work is a calling straight out of our hearts. You have to want to put yourself through the instability that comes with this job. The middle of the night grasping for your phone to make sure you havent missed a call. The drop everything and go to a birth type life is wild! but so worth it when you see the difference you are making. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ That Chica wasn’t exactly sure what the road ahead had in store, but I was willing to take a chance on myself. Although there have been some ups and downs between then and now, I’m confident that if I could go back in time and talk to myself, I would have been so happy to know where I would be in five years.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ As for what the next five years have in store? I have my dreams—but we’ll just have to wait and see! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And if you missed my stories a few days ago. I never really talk about this. Maybe because I am a very optimistic person or maybe I don’t like to talk about my insecurities (who does?). It took me 5 years to feel comfortable in my own body again. It is crazy what 1 toxic relationship can do for your self image, self worth and overall health. I don’t think I have ever shared this but I haven’t felt myself for so many years. I was disconnected from my own body for a long time up to the point where I couldn’t enjoy the things that I should FULLY enjoy. I got an MRI scan, tried different types of birth control (ugh), talked to my friends but nothing seemed to help. Until I realized I needed self healing. For me that was also a spiritual journey (not an easy one either). Not being able to connect with your own body, not understanding the pain or discomfort is so hard and mentally exhausting. After 5 years I can finally say that I feel better now. I feel like myself again. I know so so many girls and women will experience the same after abuse so I am letting you know: you are NOT alone, what you experience is normal and you are not crazy. Be good to yourself and also know that I am always here for you. It seems like everybody and their momma got a peloton bike when quarantine hit, and I totally tried to talk @davidcoephoto into one too. But I’ve been working so hard on making our home aesthetically pleasing- and in a two bedroom condo, there wasn’t a spot where it wouldn’t be an eyesore, imho.🤷🏽♀️ So I decided to go my own way- combed through reviews to find a good *folding* spin bike, and I love love LOVE that I can roll it out of the way, or fold it up and stash in a closet with ease. It’s so easy to stream the @peloton app to the tv when I want to do a class or ride with friends. David’s swapping the cage pedals for clips so I can wear my spin shoes, and I have a heart rate and cadence monitor ordered... All that to say, I’m so pleased with this little setup (and how budgetfriendly it is!) so I wanted to share it with y’all! In college I had a period where I attached my self worth to my ability to avoid eating. I would scroll Tumblr for quotes that made this easier. There was actually certain phrases or words that triggered the website to prompt “is everything ok?” . One quote I can still remember clearly attaching myself to was, “next time you want to eat, do it naked in front of your mirror” and of course, the notorious “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”. Well, I’ll tell you what that “skinny” felt like. There were weeks I allowed myself only one Special K cereal bar over the span of 7 days. I’d walk on the treadmill and come home before 8pm and climb into the bed because my muscles ached and screamed out for fuel. My stomach muscles contracted and cried out for calories. It’s hard to sleep with anxiety, but friends, anxiety pales in comparison to hunger pangs. . Me and food, we’re thick as thieves now. We have a better relationship than I have with most human beings in my life, and this is a massive privilege I don’t take for granted a single day. I’ll eat dinner for breakfast, I’ll eat ice cream in the winter, I’ll throw some chocolate chips in my fruit smoothie if I want a little razzle dazzle that morning. There is a great loss that accompanies avoiding food. You lose energy, you lose personality, you lose relationships, you lose memories you were supposed to be making - all because you can’t fathom lifting your body out of bed. . I have nothing but love and hope for those still battling disordered eating. Food is fantastic. I don’t love my body every single day (who can really say they do?) but to altogether avoid the consumption of calories is no longer ever my mindset. So even as summer comes to an end, and I likely do weigh more than at the start of the season, here I am eating ice cream in front of my mirror because if there’s one thing I’ve learned - trying to change how you look can rob you of so much that you deserve 💗 - @whole_happy on Instagram

Jermaine was registered to go to pre-school full time this year before COVID-19 happened. They followed up to start in October but because of his weak immune system, we decided to hold off. Being a December baby - he has the option of going to school with the 2017 batch (instead of the 2016 batch). I guess we might have to look into that option depending on how long its going to take for the COVID-19 cure to come out. So many mixed emotions right now. What a crazy time we are living in. I cant imagine how parents are dealing with kids in grade school right now. PS - I am not really homeschooling. The more I come to the realization of myself, the more I come to see that I never really knew me. ✨ I was unaware. I was misled. Wanna know why its important AF to express your emotions? Well here’s a quick little trip down memory lane. **Bit of a trigger warning on this one as we’re diving into my past** I’d sneak into mums bathroom and quickly shove one of her razor blades into my pants. I’d lock myself in my room and run the blade against my forearms until I bled. It was my little secret. What I learnt from my history of self harm is that keeping things to yourself and bottling up your emotions is NEVER EVER EVER EVRR a good idea. If you hold it in for too long the darkness will come out through negative habits. I never spoke to ANYONE about the way I felt, not even my best friends or guys I dated. This manifested to bingeing of all sorts. Eating, watching TV & consuming social media, smoking weed, drinking and taking drugs. They were my way of numbing my depression. I now know the transformational power of expressing my raw emotions and letting it out. I do this through meditation, exercise, journalling, dancing, creating & simply talking to friends or coaches I pay about what’s going on. If you continue to sweep your emotions under the rug, what happens? Eventually you cant fit anything more and it all starts to overflow uncontrollably. That’s when shit gets too overwhelming and you turn to toxic habits. Instead, make it a new habit to express your emotions outwards in whatever way works for you! - @lifebytayla on Instagram

NEW REVIEW- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo ⠀ 🎶and you know damn well, for you I would ruin myself, a million little times🎶 Illicit Affairs by Taylor Swift (just felt very apt for this book) ⠀ ⠀ OH GOD OKAY HERE WE ARE. I have put off posting this for so long because I just feel so extra but you know.. do it for the gram. I buddy read this with the lovely @numberslady_reads and I’ll admit I went into it sceptical for two reasons: how interesting can a fictional biography really be? Secondly, what if this doesn’t live up to the hype for me? Well here’s the answer to these two questions that loomed over me leading up to reading this. Taylor Jenkins Reid wrote a fictional biography so incredibly well that I kept forgetting Evelyn Hugo wasn’t a real person and it broke my heart every time I remembered. This book lived up to the hype without a doubt. Evelyn Hugo’s life is one that will stay with me forever, I laughed with her, I cried with her, I criticised her, I judged her, and ultimately though it wasn’t down to me, I forgave her. Taylor Jenkins Reid managed to bring a character to life, it felt as though I should be able to sit down and find Evelyn on Netflix, Evelyn should have 1 million google results and in my opinion, that is incredible writing to be able to bring a character to real to life. I could have read a 1000 page book on Evelyn, she really is just that interesting of a character. I loved the human dynamic between Evelyn and Celia, how messy, flawed and real it was. I loved the strong, comforting friendship between Harry and Evelyn and I loved that I had no idea what the ‘twist’ was until I was reading it. ⠀ ⠀ I love this book, I love Evelyn Hugo, I love Celia and I love the emerald dress that captures this book perfectly, and so I just had to wear my own. ⠀ ⠀ Thank you @booksandflatwhites for gifting me one of my favourite books of 2020 💖 - @livs_little_library on Instagram

WHO EVER SAID YOU CAN DO IT ALL LIED My plan for my #maternityleave was to do it all: ➕Master motherhood ➕Work on getting my body “back” ➕Learn new skills ➕Read all the books I’ve hoarded ➕Finish all the projects I’ve been putting off When I think about it- all I can do is laugh 😆 I’m glad I’m learning to give myself grace. In the world today there is an unattainable goal for mothers and women in general. We are supposed to be all things to everyone and make it look easy. It only took me a couple of days after I had my baby to let my perfect plan for my maternity leave go. Once I let go of my plans I was able to start enjoying this wonderful learning experience. For the last two months it’s been great to be able to focus on building my bond and learning with my baby girl. Now that my baby girl is so grown - (she thinks she’s 1 or something) she gives me more time to work on other things. First thing up- getting back to working out. Over the weekend, I did just that with a Barkers Marque Sauvignon Blanc. Ive never been to New Zealand, but whenever I may make it there Im definitely visiting Barkers Marque/Waverely Vineyard! Based between the bluffs of Blind River, Barkers Marque is home to a family of estate grown, sustainable Marlborough wines at an equally refreshing price point. Youre not likely to find these wines in large grocery stores, but rather specialty shops & independent retailers (thanks @woodberry_wine 🙌) Of their four distinct Sauvignon Blancs (they also have a single estate Riesling 🍇), I tried the 2019 Ranga Ranga, estate grown and fermented in 100% stainless steel. Though bone dry, its juicy and full of citrus & tropical fruit flavor (lime, grapefruit, 🍍), with sweet citrus aromas and a rich, tart finish. I really enjoyed this bottle and would love to compare it with their other varietals. Id been on an intense rosé kick showing no end in sight, so it was fun to switch things up and sip something different. What are your go-to summer wines? I’ve received a lot of dms asking how to get an internship at NASA or Microsoft. Honestly, i don’t have an answer but thought I could share tips from my personal recruiting experiences during the past 3-4 years. But I do want to mention that if you are feeling overwhelmed and lost during recruiting season, I did too. It’s normal. I feel like it’s one of those things you kind of just figure out as you go. Howeverrrr, here are some tips I have that would have been helpful to me if I had known earlier! ⠀ 1. Apply EARLY. Like now. Especially due to the pandemic, there may be less headcount available. I know companies like Microsoft are starting their first round of interviews for university recruitment next week. The earlier you apply, the more chances you have of getting an interview. ⠀ 2. Update your resume. Resumes can be annoying to update but add any relevant experiments. Leave enough time to have people proofread it for you. Also, include key words from the job posting directly in your resume. ⠀ 3. If you have a close classmate or friend who is working at the larger companies you are applying to or has interned previously, ask them if they could potentially refer you. This will give you more chances of having your resume looked at. ⠀ 4. Keep your LinkedIn profile updated. Many recruiters are active and will reach out to you on this platform. ⠀ 5. Stay organized! I made a folder on my computer called (YEAR-recruiting). I kept all my cover letters , answer to application questions, list of skills, and relevant docs here. This saved a lot of time because you can reuse your stuff! ⠀ 6. I made a spreadsheet to keep track of when and where I applied. ⠀ 7. Utilize Glassdoor! As my old students, some of who I have taught for 5 years, have their first day of school today and find me not there I wonder how they are doing. This is the first time I haven’t “gone back to school” in 8 years and it does feel...different. Since I taught at a small private school, Art was (of course) the first to get cut during this whole COVID crisis (but so lame, right?!) We’re funny about the whole highlight reel stuff. Part of me looks at this and is still is a bit 😅 But what I really want to highlight is that my identity never was and never will be found in what I do but who I am. What I want to highlight is what may be seemingly a loss may actually be a blessing for a new beginning. Drew and I have felt like we were being pulled in a new direction towards ministry and running our business together full time for a while now, and we were actually grateful for confirmation when God closed this door. So if you’re going through something similar, while you may not feel comfortable shouting it from the rooftops just yet or posting some big public announcement such as this (which is totally understandable) let me reassure you whenever you’re challenged it kickstarts another level of faith. When the opposition comes, will you give up or will it propel you forward? God can take every limitation that has been put on your life and expand your heart and purpose in a way that is way bigger, way higher, way more effective than anything you could imagine. Hello 17 weeks 💗 The last three months have been the hardest of my life. I hate to play the victim but I’ve been struggling. Mentally, emotionally and physically. I’m not looking for sympathy I just want to share this journey and the realness of it. My body has gone through the most dramatic changes of its life. To sum up : ⭐️ Gone from size 6/8 to 12+ ⭐️ Training 5x/week to 0 ⭐️ In control of eating to surviving off white bread ⭐️ Feeling great 90% of the time to 5% ⭐️ Never sick to nausea 23/7 and vomiting ⭐️ Sustaining one heart to two But the things I’ve loved: ⭐️ skin has got clearer ⭐️ intuitively eating ⭐️ increased sex drive ⭐️ feeling her kick after eating Thai food ⭐️ seeing the ultrasounds of our tiny human ⭐️ planning her nursery and all the cute outfits No two pregnancies are the same and mine has definitely not been the worst. My body does not exist to be a “before and after”, a “pose vs unposed” or an “insta vs reality”. My body exists as it is, to carry me through this crazy life. Some days I struggle to accept what my post-weight-gain body looks like but, when those days have passed, I am relentlessly grateful for everything my body does for me. It has seen me through 5 years of chronic migraines (where I’d often end up bed bound) and it continues to see me through living with anxiety, depression, PTSD and IBS. Together we’ve been through a lot. My body is for me, your body is for you. Our bodies are not for other people to dictate how we should look, what we should weigh or how we should live our lives. And there’s no shame in existing as we are, without feeling the need to show our “best selves” that are tensed and contorted to make ourselves seem smaller. In summary: my chubby rolls are fucking CUTE. And yes, I should’ve cleaned my mirror before taking this photo. The end. That’s a gift 🎁 You don’t have to deal with the symptoms of 21st century birth control like we do. Women will put themselves on birth control and then people around them will complain about their dry vaginas, having to change period stained bed-sheets at 3am, and crying at a small dog outside a corner shop (me). Being on birth control is gnarly as fuck. We have swathes of women talking constantly about how birth control has completely fucked them over only to be told that we’re lucky to have access to it and to shut the fuck up. To be clear, WE ARE LUCKY. Many people don’t have access to these methods of birth control. But for lots of us, it’s hard work. While we’re on the subject, there’s a significant amount more work we have to do to avoid pregnancy. Including arranging+attending appointments, reasoning with doctors to PLEASE REMOVE THE THIS THING IN MY ARM ITS MAKING ME SWEAT FROM MY FEET AND I YELLED AT A BIN LAST TUESDAY (me + implant was a showdown), convincing boys to PLEASE WEAR A CONDOM which is like trying to get a 5 year old to put a jacket over his favourite Halloween costume (joke is @taylortomlinson not me but I love this analogy). PUT ON THE CONDOM. I KNOW THEY SUCK. WE ALL HATE THEM. BUT YOU WONT BE THE ONE DOWN THE ABORTION CLINIC/BLESSED WITH SURPRISE CROTCH GOBLIN 9 MONTHS LATER. ITS NOT MUCH TO ASK Just say thanks. My mood this entire time in lockdown (I mean quarantine lol). How to make shit happen . This book has taught me so much . The most valuable thing I’ve learned is to not make excuses . There’s no such thing as I CANT . You either don’t want to or can’t figure out how to make it happen . I’ve become a much better problem solver . And I do so much in one day ! I feel like I’m truly living a life worth living . Everyday counts and I make sure I make my day worthy of God’s investment in me . I exercise daily , drink water , read, research , take care of my family, create , love , and laugh ! I do everything that makes me feel good and happy .
