City of Smyrna Provides W-Fi Hotspots for Students/Families through the Federal CARES Act SMYRNA, GA (Thursday., Sept. 17, 2020) – Through the Federal CARES Act funding allocated to the City of Smyrna through Cobb County, the City of Smyrna has approved and purchased Wi-Fi hotspots to distribute to Smyrna area Cobb County public schools to provide connection for students. Today, Mayor Derek Norton, members of Council Tim Gould (Ward 6 – Mayor Pro-Tem), Travis Lindley (Ward 3) along with Interim City Administrator Joe Bennett and Interim Assistant City Administrator Penny Moceri delivered Wi-Fi hotspots to Campbell High School and Belmont Elementary in Smyrna. The Smyrna City Council authorized the purchase of 900 Wi-Fi Hotspots. Based on input from the leadership of Smyrna area Cobb County schools, the City purchased and is in the process of distributing – through the schools - 300 hot spots. This project is covered by the Federal CARES Act with funds distributed through the Cobb County Government. Each Verizon MiFi Jetpack can accommodate five to 10 devices. There is no data limit. Each device has an unlimited data plan. At present, service will be covered until December 30, 2020. Außerdem hatten sie auch noch ganz andere kluge Ideen und Geschichten zu erzählen, zum Beispiel wie man in der Zukunft auf dem Land leben und arbeiten kann, was diese Kunst auf dem Land treibt, warum junge Leute wieder aufs Land ziehen, was ein Freilandmuseum eigentlich so ausmacht oder wie man die hässlichste Kreuzung Stuttgarts zu einem besonderen Ort macht. When you push yourself beyond limits, you discover inner reserves, which you never thought existed earlier. Last night, my tumbling instructor Andrew, who is amazing btw, told me that he was going to be telling me to do things which were going to be difficult for me. However, he wouldn’t push me to do them if he didn’t already know that I was capable. Of course, I looked at him like he had 15 heads, because I had NO idea what he was talking about. He then replied with, I know you don’t know what we’re going to be doing, however I’m telling you now that you can and you will. With that being said, get on the trampoline, start with your arms up, no swing, just bend your knees and do your back handspring.....so I did. Then he said, ok, now do a tuck. Same way. And I said ummmm without the swing?! And he said yep. You got it. And he was right. I did my standing tuck on the trampoline with my arms up, without setting like I normally do. It took me a hot minute to actually do the first one. However, I did it....it wasn’t pretty, and Andrew let me know 🤣 and then he said, now that you got the ugly one out the way, do it again. And I did. Fast forward 15 tucks or so...and he stands up, walks over to me, and says ok, now you’re gonna do tuck tuck. 😱 7-8 tries later, I did it. We had to go piece by piece on it, until I was able to connect them, however, I did it. One of our members so eloquently put into words our thoughts from today. “Today I participated, virtually, in Reps for Recovery at True Core. Each year we workout to support the Samaritan House in Annapolis. The Samaritan House supports men on their journey to an addiction free life. We honor the life and struggle of Joe Brady as well as all the lives lost too soon to addiction. We come together to share in the joy of recovery while mourning the losses. In years past, “The Joe” was a partner Workout, signifying that no one beats addiction alone. This year, because of the pandemic, it was not a partner WOD, and It was lonely. If you know someone who struggles with addiction, reach out. Check in on them, all of this social isolation is particularly difficult. Isolation and emotional distress can be triggers for relapse, and we are all feeling these right now. Relapses are up over 30%. Take a minute and just call. If you are struggling, reach out! Save Me Too - Court BTS - Swipe 👉 We planned extensively for the 2 days we spent in this room, to use 2 cameras and 360 lighting to monopolise on the time we had and shoot fast. Gaffer Dave Owen and I used a helium balloon for subdued, consistent soft light as a base. We worked closely with production designer Alison Butler and her team to find the right colour and tone to paint the walls, and to introduce various practicals. They built housings for 6 Astera tubes mounted to the walls and set to tungsten to play warmth off the daylight from the balloon. The wireless tubes gave us depth, splashes of light in most frames and no cables to be seen. This all enabled us to shoot very efficiently with a nice atmospheric look that stayed the same throughout. Very satisfying to collaborate like this. 1. 4.8k Airstar balloon coming down to be skirted 2. Balloon on with 1 of 3 bulbs, skirted. It fit snuggly into a large skylight alcove. We opted against the real daylight for more control and consistent levels. The upstairs balcony let us hide 2 sky panels with egg crates 3. The look. Desk lamps playing to give fill to those seated 4. The look. Asteras behind 5. Previously, on Testing With Lesley, we explored costume, production design and hair & makeup choices. Court room wall colour and prac options in bground 6. Public gallery. 3 asteras stuck onto the inside wood with velcro to give a tickle more daylight. This stopped the outside of the gallery walls getting too hot and saved us having to adjust the balloon 7. The look inside the gallery 8. @camera_chai possessed with glee before dropping the guillotine on director @jim.loach 9. Key grip @reecehearnshaw exhibiting the smooooth butt dolly ride waiting for me and B cam op Andre Austin to use with the camera on the shoulder. 650 classes ✅ These four walls have changed my life and they’ve changed me. I give myself an hour (or two) everyday to show up for myself, to work my ass off and to appreciate how far I’ve come. I give myself time to work toward where I want to be and who I want to be. An hour a day, for me. There are days I feel strong and unstoppable and days I am far too critical of myself but everyday I feel supported, uplifted and grateful. Everyday I’m reminded that I’m capable, appreciated, worthy and valued. Today during that last stretch I really took a minute to think about it all and realized, this is it, this is everything I’ve always wanted. A year ago I embarked on an incredible journey with the Early Career Leadership program and National Geographic Society. Recovery: Sleep ••• Sleep is undoubtedly the foundation and holy grail of recovery. Unfortunately, athletes face a number of obstacles preventing them from getting optimal sleep. Vigorous training schedules, academic obligations, pressure to perform, and social stress can all impair sleep, sequentially reducing recovery & adaptation, and thus, performance. Optimal sleep is a prerequisite for optimal performance! ••• Performance — Accrued sleep debt negatively impacts reaction time, muscular endurance, fine motor skills, and neurocognitive function, cumulatively reducing vital sport skills like digging a volleyball or delivering a pitch. Its speculated that lack of sleep increases heart rate & oxygen consumption, while raising lactate levels. A rise in cortisol and suppression of growth hormone also follow sleep loss. ••• Injury — Inadequate sleep duration reduces immunity, increasing the likelihood of getting sick. Research also shows that youre much more likely to get injured with inadequate sleep, and youre at an even greater risk if practice/training load increases simultaneously. This is perhaps related to the reduction in physiological function. This one goes out to the parents, grandys, older siblings, aunts & uncles, teachers and all other types of role models... I had great fun today taking Thea’s kindy group through some exercise. Unfortunaetly Thea wasn’t a fan of sharing daddy😂 If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the years and through many chats with @_kbunns is the importance in how exercise is role modelled and explained to our kids. For me today the message was ‘like going down slides?, like kicking balls? Like dancing? We exercise so we can do even more of that fun stuff! We do it for health and for fun especially at a young age. So whether your goals involve weight loss, building muscle or being the best athlete you can, make sure your kids don’t get dragged into that message. This has certainly been my experience at times and it’s one of my biggest reasons for joining the Accessible Yoga Conference—to connect with others who share my values. The upcoming virtual Accessible Yoga Conference features teachers and leaders who are doing the most interesting work around yoga right now—people who honor the roots of the practice and the whole system of yoga. Throughout the weekend, you’ll learn plenty of practical tools you can take into your teaching and practice to make yoga more accessible and equitable, which is invaluable. And to me, the connections we make and support we receive from the @accessibleyoga community experience is the secret sauce—this is where the magic happens. It can be tiring to swim upstream all the time; it’s important to surround yourself with people who share the heart of the practice and the WHY behind our choice to share these teachings in the first place. I know so many of us, myself included, have been feeling more isolated than usual this year. It’s even more important now to create and join in spaces where folks can get the tools they need to further their practice and teachings, and to create places for reflection, and for connection. The Accessible Yoga Conference will take place October 9-11th; you can learn more at conference.accessibleyoga.org. I’ll be hosting a virtual dance party on opening night and also delivering one of the Keynote addresses: The Audacity of Taking Up Space: Re-imagining Power in the Body. It’s difficult to maintain an active lifestyle and progress towards your goals if you’re constantly getting hurt. This is why you need to be smart about how you incorporate the bench press into your routine. — Unless someone is training for a specific competition/goal that revolves around a standard flat bench press, I recommend adding in different bench press variations here and there over consecutive blocks of training. — Check out a few of my favorites tweaks below👇 — 1️⃣ 𝐃𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 📍Handstands prior to heavy pressing help prime the muscles of the shoulder complex, improve shoulder stability while pressing, and reduce risk of injury 💥 Find a wall, place your hands a foot away, kick up into a handstand 💥 Try 3 sets for 10-30 seconds each — 2️⃣ 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐩 📍Wide grip bench press will target get the pecs more, but also can wreak havoc on your shoulders 💥 Use a grip slightly wider than shoulder width or less 💥 Keep your elbows around a 45 degree angle to your side as you press — 3️⃣ 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐩 𝐛𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐫 𝐝𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐬 📍Consistent pressing with a straight barbell can lead to wrist, elbow and shoulder issues over time. Using a neutral or angled grip barbell, such as a Swiss Multi-Grip Bar, can give the joints a break. 📍Dumbbells allow you to adjust your grip to your preference and provides an endless amount of variations. Floor presses are also a great option. — 4️⃣ 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 📍Adjusting the bench to a 15-30 degree incline will take some stress off the shoulder joint and shift more focus onto the pectoral muscles. — 🔑 Always train around (not through) nagging aches and pains before they turn into injuries.
