How could I expect to have gotten any better when I wasnt consistent.. the first time I clean and jerked 130kg was back in 2016. Since then that number has only increased by a few kgs. I set myself a goal that by the end of the year I would snatch 110. Clean and jerk 140kg, bench 145/150kg, deadlift 220 and squat 190. Also complete a 5km run in under 28mins... And finally be able to sink bulk frothies at work Christmas party without a bad hang over the next day (which takes training too). I also plan on doing it all in the same week. CrossFit Games 2020. Congrats to all the athletes who competed under these weird circumstances....not easy without the magic of Madison! Huge respect to the top 5 girls who earned their spot to compete at Aromas later this year. Well earned 🙌🏼 As most of you know, I got my games spot taken away when cuts were made pre games due to covid. My coach/husband and I decided it was best I ‘compete’ in the games regardless and simulate the competition in the best way we could. Upon completion of this weekend, I finished within the top 20 overall. (Unintentional repeat of last year)😂 I placed quite high in a couple of events, but also going into the weekend I knew there were going to be some major tests for me too. I can confidently move forward onto next year knowing I proved to myself I once again belong. ☑️ So....Where do we go from here you ask? 💻 Hamstring Movement Prep ⏭ SWIPE LEFT ☑️ SAVE & TRY LATER Movement preparation is needed to help prepare us for the physical demands of training. This will increase performance & decrease the risk of injury during any form of physical activity. When warming up, it’s very important to choose purposeful movement patterns that practice the specific motor skill/ skills for that day. Usually most of our warmups are “general” & can get repetitive (ie, running on treadmill, riding stationary bike, static stretching, etc.), finding ourselves doing the same thing everyday. Using specific & progressive movement patterns during our warmup keeps you more engaged & allows you to get more out of the warmup in the context of upcoming training. Some days can seem hard to get started if we warmup in a slow manner, then jump right into our workout that requires us to be moving at a faster pace. Our brain receives information it takes in & reacts accordingly, so the faster those signals from the brain travel, the better they are at allowing muscles to turn off & on in the order we’d like them to during our workouts. We wanna use the progressive nature of the warmup, where we start at a low intensity, then gradually build us toward high intensity, or to the level of intensity we will be training at. In this warmup I’m performing two exercises that will help prepare the glutes & hamstrings before my workout. These help me understand how I need to move & position my body while in a simple environment during the warmup, giving me something my body can reference back to, when we approach more complex movement patterns. I missed my class today with @taomovement_ldn as Mason and I were cowering under the subway to avoid the rain! However, I still managed to get some practice in of the challenge he set me! Scrolling through insta over the last week or two all I’ve seen is these amazing pictures of people amazing things in terms of strength and body positions. What we don’t see is how much work people put into such things and how many times they actually fail before smashing it. It doesn’t just happen over night. I’ve been practicing this pose all week at random times and today was first time I managed to hold it, only for two seconds though! Anyway, swipe right to see a couple of my failures and how I nearly re-arranged my face!!! Take inspiration from what you see on Instagram, but don’t beat yourself up because you don’t look like someone or you can’t do something they can do! “AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!” At least that’s what it can sound like in our head. Despite many saying I’m one of the happiest, positive injured people they’ve ever met, I definitely face the same thing. I have absoLUTELY felt the weight of a knee injury that is now going to require surgery and extended recovery time. • Pain or injury is never fun. But it can sure heighten the sense of feeling: - depressed - sad - frustrated - downright angry - “Why me? Why this? Why now?” And those feelings can get overwhelming. They make it challenging to focus on anything else BUT the pain or injury. • Think about it though. That’s EXACTLY what it’s doing: heightening the intensity of our focus. It is, however, up to us to choose where we then direct that focus. • It’s not about ignoring or suppressing all those emotions we experience. In fact DON’T! They are a part of the process. They are a part of the guidance and discovery. Acknowledge them, accept them... but work through them. Don’t succumb to them. • We are feeling these for a reason. Use them as the ‘signposts’, the ‘breadcrumbs’, the ‘tracks’ to discovering WHY you are feeling them so intensely. What is the injury: - limiting - holding you back from - keeping out of reach Use the intensity of focus that the current pain or injury is giving you access to, amidst an attention grabbing world of distraction, to go deeper in your Journey.
