Dear Friends, Family, Neighbors, Communities, It is with immense sadness that we will be permanently closing Flow State CoffeeBar. Our last day of business will be Sunday, September 27th. The hardships we have experienced because of Covid-19 have taken its toll and we can’t bear them any longer both financially and emotionally. Despite all of this we are proud that we are going out swinging and with our heads held high. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to you, Philly, for letting us share our vision and talents with you for the past 2 years. Flow State was a radical business idea incubated between three friends over breakfast many years ago. Somehow our European-inspired coffee shop/coworking space/gelateria/bakery idea worked - it means so much to us that you understood and saw us for all that we are. 2020 was supposed to be a year of growth but instead became a year of constant pivoting for survival. Though we have done our best to adapt, Covid-19 has brought us to our end. Thank you for letting us be part of your lives and for becoming a big part of our lives as well. Dear friends, Change is upon us. The weather is cooling. The leaves are turning. The sun is hanging lower in the sky. As someone closely connected to nature, I’m very in tune to the changing seasons. Animals instinctively transition from season to season. For us humans, its a bit more complicated. Change also makes way for new opportunities. A client came in today. She said, “The pandemic forced me to give up all of these things I thought I needed. Now that Ive gone without them, Im starting to realize that I never needed some of them at all. Weve spent years filling our lives with things because we were told to, or felt we needed to. Then we had something I like to call a forced reset. A little bug came out of nowhere and forced us to strip everything down to the frame. Now we can choose which things to let back in. We have the power to change our lives. And then there are times when life changes for us. This week I got two unexpected visitors at work. I was helping load up one of the vans when suddenly a car pulled up. It was my wife Asya, and my youngest son, Charlie. He was crying. This week CT enacted a new requirement that children 3 years+ must wear masks in school. Weve been working with Charlie to prepare him, and he has been struggling with the transition. I picked him up and said, “Buddy, change is hard. But masks keep us safe. Did you know that daddy wears a mask all day long? Now youre a big boy, just like daddy! He started smiling at me, and we shared a moment together. That night before bed we took out our doctor set and played a game. I told Charlie doctors wear masks all day too. So Charlie put on his mask, took out his stethoscope and gave me a check up. I kept calling him Dr. Charlie. The next morning, as soon as he was dressed for school Charlie put his mask on all by himself. Asya said, “You must be so excited to be a big boy like daddy and wear your mask! To which he replied, “Im not daddy. Im Dr. Charlie. And I wear my mask all day long! Since the pandemic started, her residents have not been able to see their family members in person. As we know, this has lasted for months at this point. Unfortunately, some residents passed without their family members being able to say goodbye to them in person or even hear their voice. T has taken it upon herself to request iPads for the Assisted Living houses so that she may help the residents visit with their family members via Skype. ⭐️Gnarly Nachos turns 5 today⭐️ We know it’s been a while since we’ve given an update so here’s where everything stands: -We stopped doing delivery and pick up orders due to the increased exposure/risk we’d have to take on while doing product shopping. With Adam being diabetic, we’re choosing to stay home & stay safe! -While it’s nice to have the time off to raise our boys (they’re 16 months now!), we miss working and seeing everyone. Some of our usual spots are opening back up now, so we will be reassessing in a couple weeks to see when it’s possible to head back. -With restaurants opening back up, just to be shut down again constantly, it’s hard to tell when the right time is to come back. We’re watching covid cases in SD, and it doesn’t seem to be on a decline so we’re holding off for now. We sincerely do miss being at work and seeing you all! Im so sad to hear that La Puente Councilman Dan Holloway has passed away. My sincere condolences go out to the Holloway family for their loss, especially to Hilda, his wife of 50 years. Councilmember Holloway dedicated his life to service and others. I recently partnered with him to help families in need, and we talked about what else we could do for our community.
