IAN MC LAGAN & ROGER: 2014? Touring Beck’s acoustic oriented Morning Phase album. Smokey Hormel, our long time band member and all things fretted historian, of course knew Ian from I believe a Rick Rubin project they worked on together. He invited Ian down to this Austin City Limits performance. I had seen Ian’s “Bump Band” perform in Austin several times and had been as inspired by them as much as anything he had done w all of the greats he’d already been associated w in the past. starstruck is an understatement. In person he could not have made me feel more at ease as he was the literal fun-lovin, easy-goin’ cartoon character and epitome of the classic rock, British Blues-er ethos. We talked for hours and then we were both wisked away. He died within the year.
