Kicking off the first week of new phase, where @jailhousestrong and I have chosen to do a “mini cut” style block for 4 to 6 weeks. Some of the objectives of this phase will be to drop body fat, rest psychologically from the demands of constant high calorie consumption, improve nutrient partitioning and anecdotally, I have always found a very strong hypertrophic rebound effect after periods of lower calories/fat loss. Essentially, it could be viewed as a weight gain “reload” period. To end my previous phase I reached 365lbs and got scanned on a dexa at 11.3% body fat. I will scan again at the end of this phase with the target of being sub 8%. Calories will start at 9000 calories and I will chip away at this systemically as determined by my weekly rate of loss. I will do a post on my actual food plan soon. Slide 1-Axel 10 Second Eccentric Biceps Curl for 5 sets of 1 with 202lbs. I like using the yoke for a lot of my curl variations, as it allows less variables in the execution of the reps and makes progression easier to track. I have help getting the axel into the starting position. Slide 2-33in Power Stair for 3 sets of 3 with 330lb block. Very happy with the progression on these. I started 5 weeks ago at 26” height at around the same toughness as today’s 33”. Second clip shows why it’s important to keep toes clear! Slide 3- Forward “Stand Talls”(2 videos). Focus on these today was standing up tall and elongating neck. Love these! Slide 4-Farmer’s Walk for 4 sets of 15m with 170kgs/374lbs per hand. These are my first heavier farmer’s in a couple of months, very happy with how they all moved. Slide 5-Sled Face Pulls for 4 sets. Slide 6-Deadlifts for 5 singles up to 668lbs and Sled One Arm Rear Fly(Vid 2). I went up to 613lbs DOH and then due to a torn hand I used straps up to 668lbs. Slide 7-Log Press for 4 sets of 8 with 235lbs. Log is feeling great and triceps continuing to hold up fine and not cause any pain. Slide 8-Seal Rows for 5 sets of 5 with 428lbs Slide 9-Sir Charles Lateral Raises with slow eccentric for 3 sets of 10. DONT OBSESS OVER THE SCALE • I weigh the same in both pictures, but I have a much different composition. The majority of the fitness industry has an obsession with what they weigh. Not even just the industry itself, most of society has that obsession. “I want to weigh 120” or “I’d look so much better if I lost 10 pounds.” The fact of the matter is, the scale just records weight but so many variables can cause that number to fluctuate. You could have drank much more water one day and flushed out some excess fluid so that the day after you weigh less. BUT you didn’t lose any fat. With weight loss you are targeting fat. That’s what you want to lose. But the number on the scale DOES NOT accurately tell you how much fat you have lost. It makes me smile....because it means I’m doing my job right as a competitive bikini athlete 🤔 . I’ve never retouched or edited any pictures I’ve taken of myself....I just don’t have the time, energy or knowledge to know how 🤣 I may be guilty of the odd filter here and there, but I prefer to keep my content as real as possible. I don’t want to sell any lies or dreams to people....I even prefer my professional images to be retouched as little as possible 💯 . I will admit....I know my angles, push my poses, know how to flex and how to find the most favourable light. But those are all things that we need to know as a minimum to project our best self as a competitive athlete 💪🏽 . CONFESSION: I’m a clean freak and vacuumed the bathroom for the 3rd time this week. ON A SERIOUS NOTE: Vacuuming can train the muscle under the abs and ✅ Improve your ability to “pull the abs in”. ❌ It won’t shrink your waist nor is it magic. 🧬 Genetics will determine how wide your waist is in terms of its structure and WHERE you store fat. 🍔 Your energy balance will determine how much fat you store. 👉SO: because I’m getting leaner now, my waist looks small, and when I vacuum I can make it ‘look’ smaller. ¿Con qué motivo entreno ahora mismo? 🤔⁣ ⁣ Entrenar en sí mismo debería ser un motivo para todos, sobre todo, porque es una acción a fondo “lleno”. Aunque no tuviésemos objetivos de ningún tipo de rendimiento deberíamos hacerlo ¿Por qué? Porque a todos nos da igual la salud hasta que la perdemos 😅.⁣ ⁣ Por otro lado, si yo pudiese cambiar todo lo que me gustase de la sociedad actual, habría muchos hábitos que se quedarían fuera, sin embargo, al fin y al cabo las decisiones de las personas son individuales y no se puede realizar ninguna imposición, sólo luchar con información y divulgación de calidad 👨‍🔬📚.⁣ ⁣ Hay dos visiones de lo anterior que me parecen bastante interesantes, en primer lugar, a veces pienso que la sociedad y la población general (no nuestro círculo sesgado de personas y profesionales con formación específica) saben la importancia del ejercicio físico y que este debate de “entrenar si” o entrenar no” y el cuánto, desde hace años ya no existe y que la gente que no realiza ejercicio, actividad física o deporte es por decisión personal ... 🙃⁣ ⁣ Y en realidad, cuando salgo de mis círculos cerrados, de los lugares donde doy formación, incluso de determinados ambientes socioeconómicos, lo que me encuentro es una falta de información brutal 😭, incluso la aparición de debates totalmente sin sentido, estériles e inconclusos. Todos hemos visto programas de televisión que fragilizan a la población, publicidad en las propias cadenas de ejercicio físico con visiones rancias y un larguísimo etcétera...😂⁣ ⁣ Entonces ¿Por qué entreno? ¿Volveré a competir? ¿Sigo disfrutando igual? What TWO exercises do you HATE but LOVE the most right now? These are some of mine.⁣ -⁣ Here’s a couple lifts from today’s #ogusdaily leg day.⁣ -⁣ Smith machine Bulgarian Split squats - I’m doing these with a glute emphasis, which means I’m aiming for a fair bit of hip flexion (versus emphasizing knee flexion for a quad focus) to really STRETCH the glutes, focusing primarily on maximum tension in the glutes. Don’t take the hugest stride possible just to (unknowingly) decrease the actual tots tension on your glutes. There’s a middle ground. Gotta play with your front and back foot positioning and hip alignment to really find that sweet spot, as well as torso angle.⁣ -⁣ Cybex Squat Press (a specific Leg press) this ones sucking the life out of me lately. 3 mats for extra ROM. Feet low on the platform because I’m trying to close my KNEE ANGLE as much as possible. My heels routinely come off a bit (depending on how low i put my feet) and personally are a non-issue, and worth it for the greater knee flexion. For me.⁣ ⁣ This is an exercise where we often do it one way for life and focus on tons of weight, not a lot of ROM, perhaps “constant tension” on the quads. That’s fine if it’s working for you but if you’re here for tips from me... Work your way towards increasing your ROM. Throw on squat shoes. Bring your feet lower. PHYSIQUE UPDATE 196.8lbs fasted in the morning. No filter. No bullshit. Currently no cardio and training 4-5 days per week. I’ve noticed I’ve grown A LOT better from more rest days which is to be expected but sometimes scary to “work less” in order to gain more. Right now i’m running a modified push pull legs split and absolutely love it. Please read - The stereotype of bodybuilding is getting worse and worse. If you hear a 5 year old kid saying he wants to be a bodybuilder when he grows up, everyone will try to change his mind. Whys that? I will explain you why. Every single bodybuilder is trying to show that His lifestyle or his training or his diet is the best by surpassing the message that he suffers more than anyone else - None should suffer for anything. If you suffer then you are putting half ass work. And if you put half ass work you will achieve nothing in your life. Everything should be in moderation and pre-planned. Go out, party, drink alcohol, eat, relax, enjoy life. Putting everything you 24/7 for years and years without proper planning will take you nowhere. - I got tired of hearing people saying that they starve themselves, miss important occasions, eating only chicken and rice and dieting on extremely ridiculous plans. Happy hump day!! My coaches and I have been working on softening up my physique, while bringing out my hammies and that tear drop glute, building up my upper body ohh and doing this while staying lean😂 Yes even though I’m eating like I’m in my off season ... I’m still in prep , and I’m not mad about it! Although it’s such a taboo prep for me such as eat all the food, really no cardio other than my everyday movement/steps and one HIIT session a week, soften up and 2 rest days a week.... it’s working! Check out those hammies coming in! Even though this prep is weird and the wellness division is interesting( in a good way i fricken love it) I haven’t for one second doubted my coaches bc they have kept me INFORMED and educated throughout my entire prep. There is no “ I wonder why we are doing this” it’s “ THIS IS WHY WE ARE DOING THIS” They don’t tell me to trust the process They don’t tell me to just follow the plan They don’t tell me this is just how it’s done. They make sure I understand, they make sure I’m educated, and they encourage me to question them when something seems off to me. Check-ins today, all the way back to little JB in 2014 Change. Takes. TIME. You want a make a physical change and build a healthier lifestyle, but you feel like you’re going nowhere? I get it, I’ve been there. This 👆🏼was years in the making; years of physical and mental growth. This body has been through A LOT. College sports, never ending injuries, disordered eating, depression, anxiety, toxic/abusive relationships. I didn’t really see my “low” of 2016 as a low until long after the fact. I didn’t see how I was handling my injuries, relationships, workouts, and mental health as the issue. My relationship with training, nutrition, and myself was definitely up and down for years, and it wasn’t until later down the road I was able to see and admit that. I’m thankful for my experiences, I am who I am because of them. This journey, especially all the lows, has taught me a lot and played a huge role in my transformation. I’m happy with myself and proud af of my progress. I have a GOOD, healthy relationship with food. I actually listen to and understand my body and when it’s telling me to chill tf out. And I know regardless of how much shit I go through I’m still going to come out resilient af. Progress is not linear, nor is it immediate. Change takes time. Be easy on yourself. Gosh I’m just so proud of all the HARD WORK I’ve put in during the offseason and throughout this prep. I’m just ready to take over that National stage! . Take note: what you do during your offseason, truly affects how your prep outcome will be. If you treat offseason similar to prep, just more food but keeping your diet 95% whole, REAL foods w/ minimal “fun” foods, prep will go so much smoother and your body will have an easier time “leaning out”. However, if you use your offseason to constantly enjoy those “fun” foods and treating your diet like crap, then good luck with your preps because they will be HARD. LADIES LISTEN UP 👇🏻        Just because you see some insta-fit bikini girl doing some Booty Building workout doesnt mean its going to grow your glutes.        Stick with the shit that works, barbell hip thrusts, split squats, deadlifts variations and lunges should be the base of your workouts.         Use progressive overload principles, aim to get stronger in the main lifts over time, consume adequate calories to help facilitate growth and recovery and your ass will grow. 🍑        Trust me, I spent my younger rugby playing years, squatting, deadlifting, lunging, hip thrusts and now I barely get jeans to fit my behind. Legit.         Just because your booty is burning doesnt necessarily mean its growing so ditch the plyometric insta-celeb workouts and lift some heavy weights if you want to see some growth not how many different banded exercises can you do 👊🏼        Understanding the SRA curve of stimulus, recovery & adaptation alongside your different exercise categories of stretchers, pumpers and activators will allow you to make adequate exercise selection and frequency for optimal Glute gains 😉        Ps. On the left 28 (taken 2 weeks out from my first show) and around 195lbs 👉 On the right 36 (taken today - all the weeks out, just trying to maintain DILF status - at least as far as my wife is concerned💁‍♀️) and around 225lbs ••• There was a time that I told myself I just had “bad genetics” for hams. Reality was, I had ok execution, decent exercise selection, mediocre programming, and never really prioritized them. (And some improved posing doesn’t hurt anything either) ••• Of course there are genetic limitations to someone’s capacity to build muscle. (Not everyone can be Ronnie Coleman). But aside from that, the only real “genetic limitations” are bone structure and tendon/muscle belly length. And more often then not, when someone claims they have a “bad body part”, there are still a TON of variables within their control that they could improve upon. ••• (FYI - I have a video up on my YouTube with my top 3 favorite ham exercises. #12weeksout from @mrolympiallc This week was BUSY! Between work, class, ministry commitments, prep, clients, and the state of America...I needed every minute I could squeeze out of the day 😅. Energy in the gym is still good and strength is consistent. Motivation high with the help of the daily renewal of my mind and my husband’s push. Most of all, this week I was more than thankful for my circle of sisters who help keep me accountable spiritually. Focus this prep is living in the moment, nourishing relationships and keeping a thankful mindset. My bodywork appointment with @whitted_wellness was definitely a highlight.
