I tried to hide my true passion and gifts for most of my life fearing that I wasn’t good enough or that I didn’t deserve it🙈 I’ve talked to many young cancer survivors like the girls in these pictures. This my a weekend #mindfulness retreat I put on years ago for young adult cancer survivors. Being a childhood cancer survivor myself, I understand the hidden pain and emotions that most are scared to share. They feel like they are the only ones feeling the way they do and the truth is, they are not alone. . Growing up feeling ashamed of your body and feeling worthless is no way to live. It robs you of your joy. Most cancer survivors give up on themselves. It breaks my heart. . My mission is to help empower all survivors using movement and self discovery. I will help you find what truly is holding you back from moving forward. . I discovered what it was for me and now I want to help you❤️. . As Mothers Day approaches I can’t avoid the bombardment of adverts on tv, social media, in shop front windows and restaurant menus, reminding us to celebrate our dear mums. Mother’s Day after my mum died used to upset me as she wasn’t here anymore to celebrate with. Before, it would have been a day where we would have cooked a family roast lunch together and took our black Labrador Cola for a walk in the countryside. We would have smiled on the daffodils and magnolias coming into bloom and I would have written a soppy card telling her now much I loved her and how thankful I was of her. As each new spring circles back around I’ve felt less sadness and anger, less jealousy of families still with their mothers on Mothering Sunday. Instead I now feel the same joy and comfort in the memory of her as I did if she were still here. I don’t need to give her a card telling her how much I love her. TEN years ago today, I gave into my then 5 year old daughters pleas to adopt a 4 year old chihuahua named, Mini. I didnt want a chi, solely based on my stereotype of the breed, but this chi wanted my daughter. They were insperable! Mini had been saved by a no-kill rescue from being relinquished to certain death at the local pound in Wichita, Kansas. Eight years later, Marcelo entered our world and despite his fear of her, Mini was overjoyed to welcome another tiny human into her life and the rest has been well documented for all the world to see! Despite my efforts 10 years ago to get Mini adopted at adoption events, Im so glad Macy was secretly telling interested people that she wasnt for adoption. They were conspiring against me and thankfully no one adopted her before I relented! Someone said Mini is 1 in a billion and while I agree, there are SO many Minis literally dying in shelters just waiting on their second chance. Chihuahuas are the #2 most euthanized breed in pounds. Sure, some are kid hating chompers, sassy, yappy, defensive and rightfully scared out of their minds, but all they need is the right match, patience and love and youll quickly be addicted, like us! Dont be like me and stereotype her breed or any others in shelters. All they need is love and a second chance. The day the rescue director saved her, it was only possible for her to do so because someone had just adopted from her rescue which opened a kennel for her to go to the pound to save more. Feeling nostalgic.. and never thought that this idea I had of starting a salsa company would ever be where it is today. Back when these pics were taken (2013-2014), I was so naive, so broke, so guilt ridden, and hated myself. I put my entire family on the line, lost every dime we had and at one point became depressed over a major risk I had taken that I feared would ultimately fail. And tomorrow, I get to go see our first ever production facility where we will supply 400+ locations that are carrying @pluckedfreshsalsa , with two business partners I love, my husband who is everything to me, my parents who always believed in me and my kids who will grow up to know that I DIDNT GIVE UP. Lots of babies means we need lots of udder space! We foster piglets from large litters to sows that have room for them. We do this fostering within the first 24-36 hours after birth and once we are confident that they’ve had their mother’s colostrum. The extra piglets are moved to a sow that also farrowed within the last 24-36 hours. This way they still get milk from a freshly farrowed sow, and the piglets on that sow haven’t yet solidified their teat order. Most of the time it’s a seamless transition for the sow and the piglets...these sows are very good mothers and take fosters quite easily (and I’m so thankful for that!) Ele simplesmente entrou no quarto e levou ela junto com ele. Minha vó partiu de manhã, sem dor, rápida e tranquilamente, num dia luminoso como ela. Foi exatamente como deveria ser, da melhor maneira possível. Me alivia muito pensar que eles estão juntos, lindos e coloridos, desfrutando desse amor insolúvel. I called my mom out. - - I was out at my parents house and my sister had just made a blueberry muffin Pinterest recipe. We were standing there having a few sample bites (which were awesome btw Jess) and my mom says “Well I guess that was lunch.” After a couple bites of a muffin... - - She’s told me to call her out when she says something out of line regarding food, body comments, or things that pertain to eating disorder “triggers”. So I did and here’s why. - - When I was four years old, a family member made a comment that started my battle with body image, food, and control. “You’re a chunky little thing aren’t you?”, looking at my tummy as she was putting my pjs on me. I then remember thinking that I shouldn’t drink the chocolate milk she had made me before bed because I was “chunky”. I was FOUR. - - I brought my moms comment to her attention not because it affects me anymore, it absolutely would have in the past, but because that kind of talk is 100% unnecessary in every situation. I wouldn’t want her to say that around my younger cousins, my sister, or even a stranger. Two bites of a muffin does not equal lunch or a reason to not eat later. Comments like that are comparison and guilt inducing for someone struggling with an eating disorder, a poor relationship with food, or even a person free from those things. - - So here’s your reminder that two bites of a muffin isn’t lunch. I learned so much from our extraordinary background artists while shooting Stateless. Hearing their real life stories of displacement & statelessness was both eye opening & heart breaking. Some had even experienced the now shut down detention centre that was up the road from our replica set one. It was this experience that set this project apart for me, from any other. A week and a half ago we adopted little Hank and he deserves a proper introduction! Our friends texted us 2 weeks ago asking if we wanted to bring a puppy into our home. We had already agreed we wanted to concentrate on our sweet Maddie girl while we still have her. But this puppy’s story was special and our friends insisted he was too. This poor little guy spent his first 5 weeks of life in a hole in the desert! His Momma kept him and his 6 brothers and sisters alive during a horrible 100+ degree heat wave! The video at the end is Momma, who found a home a couple days ago too! 🥰🥰🥰 Needless to say, it turns out he is a special guy. He loves his sisters...Maddie is pretty fond of him too. No school. No activities. No big playgroups. I’m feeling a little defeated not being able to go work right now and I think the mental game is the hardest part of all this Covid bullshit. Everyone has their opinion of what you should/shouldn’t do. All I know is that it sucks so I decided to go through my old pictures and I found a few that I really love of me & my favorite little dudes that dubbed me Uncle Bekah. • As for an update...I’m fine, just haven’t been completely symptom free yet and that’s why it’s so frustrating. I’ve seen how contagious it is first hand & it’s a real bitch worrying about the people that you may have given it to. Other than that, I really am ok just trying to stay away from the shop until we’re certain I won’t spread this crap to anyone else. Once I’m back in regular production I’ll let everyone know. Tomorrow is moving day 🚛📦 Its mixed emotions really... I am feeling pretty sad about moving. We have had some really great experiences in this house and are leaving with some very precious memories... My daughter has celebrated 5 birthdays in this house, Ive hosted one of my best friends baby showers here, weve had several Christmas parties here, my daughter was toilet trained here, I built my business from here, I got to live next door to one of my closest friends for three of our five years here (we even had an interconnecting door), weve had people come to stay, being able to walk to school, walking to our friends from schools houses, the list is endless... I was 32 when we moved in 😱 It feels like a lifetime ago... When I asked my daughter what her favourite memory of our time at this place has been and she said: all the parties weve had here mum. So I guess there is a common theme... we love parties! Ha. No, what it comes down to is the memories we have made with each other and with our loved ones. I do 100% of the preg checking on farm, thanks to my compact little ultrasound. I don’t have to check for litter numbers, a confirmed pregnancy is all I need to know! We breed new groups of sows every week. I ultrasound scan them 4 weeks later, looking for those telltale little black dots on the screen showing me that new litter of piglets. Pregnant sows then move to the gestation barn, open sows stay and are re-entered into the breeding program or are culled for possible repro issues. Good conception rates mean the sows are healthy and well, their environment has been optimal, and our water/feed/feeding program is excellent. It also means that we’ve been doing a good job making sure matings are done correctly and the semen has been handled properly. #mehrlinge Letztes Wochenende war hier richtig was los! Nachdem erst unsere Kuh Nummer 127, Supra, #zwillinge bekommen hat, folge Kuh Nummer 88, Tundra, mit #drillinge n 😳 Da haben wir alle nicht schlecht geschaut. Selbst der Senior hat in seinen 79 Jahren noch nie erlebt, dass sowohl alle Kälber als auch die Mütter fit und Munter waren! 🥰 Die Zwillinge sind ohne Hilfe zur Welt gekommen 💪, bei den Drillingen hat eben jener Senior geholfen und die letzten beiden auf die Welt gebracht 👨🏻🦳. In nur 15 Minuten waren alle drei #kälber auf der Welt 🌏. Die fünf Kälber sind mit 35 Kilo jeweils natürlich um einiges kleiner und leichter ⚖️ als Einlinge, jedoch nicht so klein und schwach wie ich es erwartet hätte. Alle fünf Kälber werden den Betrieb in wenigen Wochen verlassen, denn auch wenn zwei weiblich Tiere dabei sind, sind diese nicht zur Zucht 🐄 geeignet. Denn weibliche Mehrlingskälber sind, wenn sie in Kombination mit männlichen Kälber geboren werden, in der Regel Zwitter und somit unfruchtbar ❌. Da die Kälber erst ab 50 Kilo verkauft werden, bleiben diese also einige Zeit länger bei uns als die schwereren Einlinge 🥳. So what was the impact of alcohol free 2019 on me and my life? - realising and breaking all the associations with alcohol I didn’t know I had, massive improvement in mental clarity and focus, more time and energy for what really matters to me and makes me happy, increased productivity and awareness, improved health and contribution to losing over 20kg’s, more time being present and grateful, appreciate life and people more, a great sense of accomplishment, pride, integrity and that my word has power. I got to enjoy so many magical moments with loved ones where I was truly present and I’m so very excited for 2020 and to make this remarkable human @smilelikeyoumeanit77 my wife in February and then travel Italy and France with my new wife, our 1 year old son and my incredible daughter @kayley.jay. Thank you to so many for your support along the way. @smilelikeyoumeanit77 even did the first 6 months of 2019 with me after doing 9 months whilst pregnant in 2018!! Bronx Breastfeeding Annual Conference 2019 Spent the day with colleagues and the awesome community that the Bronx Breastfeeding Coalition brings together. Also spent the day with these super real poster cut outs of breastfeeding pairs. The challenges and joys are unique to each family. It’s a pleasure/responsibility to continue to learn how to support feeding babies in the best possible way- whether it’s at the breast/chest, bottle, or any other method, or if it’s breastmilk or formula. Sadly, our little cutie had to spend yesterday in the ER due to seizures.
