Hi, my name is Gabby and today I was assaulted by an unknown white man in athletic attire. We had just started our march from crystal city to pentagon row. Less than 2 minutes into our walk, this man walked up to the front where me and the rest of the organizers were aligned and violently shoved the megaphone into my face, bruising my lip. He continued to shove and harass other protesters who stepped in front of me in my defense. Let me add that this was in front of a 9 year old Black child who attended what was supposed to be a family friendly event who began hysterically crying due to trauma of the assault. The man was unmasked, and given the pandemic that is going on, spitting and yelling on masked protesters further endangered us. There was also a marked security car that was following the protesters around that SLOWED DOWN and witnessed the entire incident but didnt intervene at all. Let me also add that a man from his high rise apartment balcony was taking time out of his day to curse, yell, and point his middle finger at us for protesting on the side walk. Arlington county has a notorious reputation for being “liberal” and “tolerant” but in one of the more gentrified and seemingly progressive areas of Arlington, a Black woman was attacked by a white man claiming this was “his neighborhood”. It is not. It’s ours. This is our home. You will not push us out. And I will continue to resist this kind of violence and fight for the Black women this protest was organized for. I also want to note that the turnout was disheartening to say the least. Y’all did not show up for Black women and that testifies to the erasure of our struggles. This fight is not over, do not forget black girls. Thank you to everyone who showed up and my gratitude and heart goes out to the people who physically put their body in front of mine. Azeris Attack Artsakh Sunday morning at approximately 7:10 a.m. (Armenia time) the Azeris launched an air and land attack along the front line in Artsakh utilizing drones and heavy artillery. Information is slow coming out of Artsakh, but here is what we know. Both the Artsakh and Armenian governments have declared states of emergency and have called up their reserves. Armenia and Artsakh have been watching Azeri movements carefully and were not caught off guard in this attack. Civilian populations in settlements near the fronts have come under attack. Stepanakert has also come under attack. 2 civilians have been killed and at least 10 have been wounded. Residential buildings in Stepanakert have come under rocket fire and have been damaged along with other infrastructure. Artsakh reports that 16 of our soldiers have been killed and 100 wounded. The Armenian army reports that the Azeri army has lost at least 33 tanks and armored vehicles, 4 helicopters, 27 drones, 2 military engineering vehicles and 200+ soldiers. Azerbaijan is engaged in a very serious propaganda war and has blocked their population from access to social media. One of Turkeys government TV channels has had a reporter at the front since the start of their attack. There are lots of reports of Turkeys support for this campaign including planeloads of recruited Syrian rebels being flown into Baku several days ago. Armenias Prime Ministers wife, Anna Hakopyan joined Artsakhs Prime Ministers wife and they are both in Stepanakert visiting the wounded and showing their support. Russia, and the OSCE has spoken with both sides and encouraged them to cease fighting. The ANC and Armenian Assembly have put out calls to action. Many of our friends and supporters in the diaspora have sent in donations to our Emergency Reconstruction Fund, which was established in July following the Azeri attack on civilian targets in Tavush. EMERGENCIA HABITACIONAL DE LA POBLACIÓN TRAVESTI Y TRANS EN LA CABA Desde organizaciones sociales, dependencias estatales y algunos despachos de la Legislatura porteña se exige que se declare la emergencia habitacional de la población travesti y trans en la ciudad. Las legisladoras Ofelia Fernández, Lorena Pokoik y Victoria Montenegro, con el apoyo de les legisladores Laura Velasco, Lucía Cámpora, María Bielli, Manuel Socias, María Rosa Muiños, Claudia Neira, Juan Manuel Valdes y Santiago Roberto, presentaron un proyecto de ley para que se declare dicha emergencia y exigen, en el corto plazo, que se otorgue el subsidio habitacional a todas las personas travestis y trans que lo soliciten. La situación habitacional de la población travesti y trans es una situación crítica que antecede y excede el actual contexto de crisis sanitaria. Aunque sin dudas, a partir de la cuarentena y las medidas de aislamiento social, preventivo y obligatorio se ve agravado. Según el informe publicado bajo el título “La Revolución de las Mariposas. A 10 años de la Gesta del Nombre Propio”, el derecho a la vivienda no sólo no ha mejorado desde el año 2005 hasta la actualidad, sino que ha empeorado. La investigación, realizada por la Secretaría Letrada en Género y Diversidad Sexual (SLGyDS) del Ministerio Público de la Defensa de la ciudad, a cargo de Josefina Fernández, junto con el Bachillerato Popular Travesti/Trans Mocha Celis. analiza comparativamente la situación del colectivo travesti y trans en relación al acceso a los derechos de vivienda, salud, educación, trabajo y el derecho a vivir una vida libre de violencias, teniendo en consideración que entre la pionera investigación “La Gesta del Nombre Propio” (Berkins y Fernández, 2005) y “La Revolución…”, se conquistó la Ley de Identidad de Género. Según indican desde la SLGyDS “el número de quienes viven en habitaciones de alquiler, tanto en hoteles, pensiones, casas particulares/departamentos, sean lugares habilitados o tomados, ha aumentado. To cushion our fragile glass jars of jam in transit, we use packing peanuts that are made from renewable starch. They are 100% compostable, biodegradable, and in fact are water soluble. They are not styrofoam! You can dispose of them in your green bin or your compost pile. We have always stamped this information on the outside of every shipping box, and I’ve recently added this information to our order confirmation email. Hopefully this will help increase the likelihood of these starch peanuts getting composted and reduce the unnecessarily angry emails yelling at us about shipping styrofoam. In our Climate Emergency Action Plan survey, many respondents emphasized bus speed and reliability as factors when choosing their preferred mode of transportation. How will we improve speed and reliability? We will work with TransLink to implement bold changes to our transit and road network to get your where you want to go faster. Some of these changes include: rapid bus routes, bus stop balancing, bus bulbs, lane designations, and bus priority signalization. These transit priority enhancements may alleviate the impacts of congestion on bus service to more quickly and reliably connect passengers to their destinations and encourages people to choose transit over driving.
