Software Is Not A Service Magnet
Although what happened overnight set in motion the events of the following day, the greatest losses started in the early morning hours of June 1st. The gun battle that lasted throughout the night kept immediate threats to black Tulsa at bay but by daybreak the tables started to turn in the most disastrous way. Many Greenwood citizens either fled for safety or were defending their property until being outnumbered by the oncoming mob. Some escaped unharmed while others who peacefully surrendered were still shot. Police and National Guard began taking the remaining blacks into protective custody but in the process left Greenwood vulnerable to all out attack. As the white mob marched into Greenwood from all sides, their mission seemed clear: after looting the properties, they were to be set on fire. This was repeated until 40 blocks of Tulsa was reduced to rubble and ash. *These photographs were taken on June 1, 1921. I will be sharing more of these in an exhibit called “21 for ‘21” opening January 1, 2021 at @bws.gallery . The exhibition will showcase 21 composite images from the 1921 #tulsaracemassacre. It’s hard to believe last August was our 5 year anniversary in our current space. When I first moved into this space, I was pretty scared if I was going to be able to afford the rent that was 4 times the amount that I was paying at my old studio but knew that I had to make that jump. During the 5 years that I’ve been here, I’ve made a shit ton of mistakes, but also learned a lot as a trainer, business owner, and also as a person. And looking back, I don’t know how I was able to survive through all the mistakes and headaches that comes with being a business owner but one thing for certain is that I’m truly grateful for making that leap. I’ve made great relationships with my clients, the community where I grew up in, and helped make positive changes in people’s lives and I’m also humbled and thankful for the support from my friends, clients and the community. With all that’s going on with Covid and the uncertainties, I’m not sure what to expect but can’t wait to see what pans out in the next 5 years as I’m learning and evolving as a person, trainer and business owner. I know everything happens for a reason and I believe the best is yet to come. This is one of the favorite family stories from the Stuart Flooring days: In the late 80s, Stuart Flooring needed a boiler to be able to fire the kilns and dry the lumber before it was milled into strip flooring. One morning, Buddy and a few helpers drove deep into West Virginia in search of a deal on this old boiler you see in the photo. Once purchased, the problem then became how were they going to get it home? Well, about the only option of getting out of the mountains of West Virginia is by truck. So, they hired a local truck driver who had a lowboy trailer to come and load up the boiler. They cut the boiler away from its foundation and jacked it up in the air so the lowboy could slide under the boiler. Then they actually welded the boiler to the trailer. At this point, it was getting late into the evening and the crew still wasnt sure how the truck driver was going to get this thing over the highways and under the bridges between Stuart and West Virginia. When they mentioned it to the driver, he said, now dont you worry about that, and told them hed see them in the morning back in Stuart. Buddy and the crew drove home that night. Sure enough, when they came to work the next morning at 6:00 AM, the driver, the lowboy, and the boiler were all waiting on them at the gate to Stuart Flooring. They unloaded the lowboy, didnt ask any questions, and the truck driver went on home, back to West Virginia. - @tenoaksflooring on Instagram

Theres still much to be done to improve our economy and our countrys infrastructure in the wake of this years unprecedented disruptions. In the year 2020, where hindsight should not be clearer, it is amazing to me that we must continue to ask ourselves…how it is that minorities today still have to suffer the same injustices of the minorities of the past. As an artist, I am committed to bringing attention to social issues that need to be addressed. The large-scale works that I have created around the world all convey that we need to come together to make the world a better place. The size of my large-scale works is directly related to the importance of the theme. This artwork “Somos La Luz” strives to give deeper meaning to the loss of each life, it strives to make evident the importance of every life as well as to value the amazing contribution of migrant people. Even with the states on pause, projects at HUNT are still on track, including the design of the Huntington Building in Seneca Falls. The historic 1870s era building was recently purchased by Home Leasing, who hired our team to restore and renovate it into 21st century apartments. The 50 units are designed with the original building in mind, utilizing its existing architectural features while adding modern amenities. Restoring the Huntington extends Seneca Falls walkability and paves the way for further development of the area.
