D4R SUPPORTER TO THE RESCUE! 🦸 We had a🚨red alert🚨plea from @battersea the other day who had been asked to help a rescue in Scotland who had been given a little Romanian doggie who was not coping. Battersea said they didn’t have the right environment to help and that he needed our kennel free approach so asked us to step in. . . . We are so busy we didn’t have a second but asked our amazing supporter group if anyone was able to do the long journey (7 hour round trip) to collect the poor little boy called Billy. He’s only 2 years old and urinates / defecates in fear when people go near him. Neil who adopted Trinny & Foxy from Bulgaria selflessly offered to go get him and we are beyond grateful. We can’t wait to watch the little guy settle in here and there’s so many wonderful doggies here who can help him learn there’s no need to fear us. Lovely to be able to help @islaydogrescue who were lovely and only wanted the best for this little man after trying so hard with him for a month to earn his trust. Great to deal with such dedicated people whose concern is what is best for the dogs. DAS Alumni Update: Wrangler 🐾 Wrangler stole my heart the moment I saw him. A little over a year ago, I visited DAS many many times looking for the perfect fit. We wanted to adopt a older female as a companion to my Frenchie Milo. Weeks and weeks went by as I found many perfectly sweet and adorable dogs but they always say when you know, you know! I stopped in again, saw the sweetest little puppy that just was released on the adoption floor that morning. I felt it! But I decided I needed to make sure it wasnt just puppy fever. I left, did my errands, called my husband, and went to get lunch. I couldnt get him off my mind, I kept looking at his picture on the DAS website and had absolutely no appetite when my lunch came. Quickly packed my lunch to go and raced back over there to pick up my furever friend! Wrangler has transitioned into an extremely confident, loving, and protective younger brother💙. He loves anyone and any thing, his favorite activities are playing WITH ALL the toys, swimming, wrestling and tugging with brudder and of course sleeping under the covers of our bed like the prince he is! These 2 little cutie pies were reported to us when they were very tiny. The female had lost her eye, and now has a missing eyeball. Both of them were suffering from a skin condition known as mange. We took them in and started their treatment. We later moved them to a foster home. We couldnt return them back to where we had found them as they were still too small and still suffering from the skin condition. Their complete recovery would take about a month or so. After which, most probably they would go up for adoption. We would like to thank the reporter for reporting the case and bringing them to us. A special thanks to Nikhil and his family for fostering them. Since most people dont typically foster animals with skin conditions. New case and it looks like she’ll be a permanent Pawco dog. While on her feeding rounds, our member spotted one of her dogs sitting on the side of the road in a puddle to cool off. While she turned the car around to feed her, a car ran over the dog and just left! Imagine that! So now the dog is under our care , she has some genital and spinal injury but is eating normally. her meds have started and we are sure she’ll be fine. Always sitting with her tongue out she’s a nice , docile dog who dsnt give anyone or any other dog any trouble. An update on our sweet Missy 🐾 We found this sweet girl in Sonoyta and brought her to our free clinic in Mexico. She was hairless and covered in bugs, scabs, and sores. She was in very poor condition. She’s been getting baths, IV treatment, medicine, and lots of love. Look at her transforming into who she was always meant to be in a matter of weeks - that coat is coming in beautifully! We can’t wait to continue Missy’s journey of healing and find her a forever home. I feel very grateful to have been able to capture many beautiful photos of Lulu over the years with my professional photography gear and lighting ✨🙏🏼. Yet despite all that, this little candid shot taken with a cheap little 1.2MP point-and-shoot 📷 back in 2004 has always been one of my very favourite photos of her. Aside from being so incredibly clever and overflowing with personality, she was just the happiest, kindest sweetheart 🥰. This week we want to show you WHY we rescue. WHY we raise the money that we do to save these dogs. These are real DMT dogs that were rescued by the most amazing and courageous organizations, who rehabilitated these dogs and gave them a second chance at life and love. Meet Benjamin aka Benji @catdogz6. This poor guy was so badly beaten and tortured in ways we could even imagine. He saw his friends being bludgeoned to death and blowtorched in front of his eyes. Luckily he was saved by @animalhopeandwellness. After almost a year of rehab he was able to be adopted out. Benji suffers from very bad PTSD but has found his new home filled with so much love with new brothers and sisters. Thank you for not giving up and being a hero. It always brightens up our day when we hear that one of our dogs at our partnered shelter in Vietnam has found their forever home. ⠀ ⠀ These are the words from Khaleesis mom 🥺❤️⠀ ⠀ When I went to R House, I had no idea that I would be walking out with a dog. And let me tell you, there were plenty of amazing candidates to choose from! However, when I saw this one dog in the corner – her sad eyes, apprehensive nature and amputated foot, I knew she was the one. 💕 Tuesday Tails 🐶 • Feat: Jasmine • Story from her furmom Theresa: “This is Jasmine. DOB 18 January 2018. Jasmine and 5 littermates were brought into the shelter in St. Lucia, with their eyes not yet open, so they knew they were less then 2 weeks old. The mother dog was dead. The volunteers told them all home to nurse them along. Only two survived, Jasmine and a “blonde” sibling. The other pups sadly died of what staff believed to be “parvo”. Jasmine was adopted out to a local family in St. Lucia, in March of 2018 but was sadly returned in November after the family got another dog and said that Jasmine wasn’t getting along with the other dog. She was thin and very lethargic. She never had problems before or after the adoption with other dogs. She remained in the shelter for a full year, until one day I saw her picture on line, on Kijiji and because she resembled our Mexican rescue dog who had died only months earlier, we felt we had to have her. Although we were leaving for our winter away in Texas, the Bruno Project did everything they needed to do to make sure we were a suitable home for Jasmine and we picked her up in Toronto, not knowing if she was a good traveller or not. Well, literally 5 days of car travel later she arrived in Texas with us, had a big “stretch” and looked at us as if to say “This is great....bring it on!” And so without missing a beat, she has become the heart and soul of our home, sharing us with our other Mexican rescue dog, Tamale. “Jazz” is loving, very affectionate, smart, fun and most of all very appreciative. We can’t imagine life without her. We are so grateful for everything the Bruno Project did for her, saving her for us. This Red Fox is in care at our wildlife hospital and being treated for sarcoptic mange. Look how improved she looks, even after just one week in care! Mange is caused by sarcoptic mites and causes extreme irritation, which often leads to hair loss. Severe infestations commonly cause emaciation and dehydration as the animal is so desperately itchy, that they become unthrifty and not able to hunt at a self-sustaining level. Many patients admitted with mange also have secondary skin infections or lesions. It’s notoriously challenging to get these patients in for care - they don’t know we’re trying to help them, so safely capturing them is difficult. Luckily, a caring resident was able to safely live-trap this individual to get them into us for care. A couple of weeks ago we rescued an 11 month old husky named Aurora in Queens, NY from a family who didn’t want her anymore. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into but knew we had to take her. Our amazing foster @cookie620 drove all the way from Pennsylvania to pick her up and drive her back home. Aurora was a hot mess. She didn’t trust humans, refused to eat or drink for a couple of days and hated her crate. Within the two weeks with @cookie620 she eventually learned to trust female humans again and somewhat tolerate her crate if there was a wheel of cheese waiting in there for her. This past weekend we transported Aurora to Oklahoma who will be staying with a highly experienced foster and hopefully within the next couple of months this girl will be up for adoption! Her foster mom Amanda said “From a girl I could only safely photograph through windows, to a girl wanting belly rubs and learning to play. I’m really going to miss this girl lots!
