Since the start of filming, I have had moments of total confusion, followed by panic, feeling like the ground was falling around me, and then suddenly I would awaken with an answer or a solution would just appear. I started feeling the sense that a band of beautiful and playful young men, my gay angels I called them, were circling around this movie the entire time, helping it along and knowing that everything was supposed to happen for a reason. The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically increased demand at the Holyrood Churchs community meals. Prior to the pandemic, the church was serving approximately 50 guests during two meals each week. They are now serving 65-75 people at each meal and have added grab-and-go meal distribution as well as a food pantry on Mondays. Sept 10, 2018 will always be a day I’ll never forget. As we were leaving our studio, four guys decided they wanted to try and rob us and when we went to get in our car to get away from them, they fired 8 gunshots as they ran away. Two bullets barely missed our heads and went through our neighboring company’s entire van, two barely missed my leg and went through the bottom of my car, ricocheted off the ground and went through the entire back of @sydneycummings_ ankle, shattering her calcaneus, as she jumped in my car. In less than the blink of an eye, I almost lost my best friend and my fiancé. I’ll always miss the blissful ignorance we had before that night. I was so inspired over that next year to watch as Syd literally gave zero excuses and worked out with a hole the size of a golf ball in her foot every day. From December 2018 through July 2019, before and after every single daily workout, we had to pack the open hole in her foot with medicated gauze and ruined hundreds of socks due to all of the blood and fluids that she lost during working out. I saw some comments come through saying “this workout is too easy”, “she looks out of shape”, etc. and instead of Syd getting upset, in typical Sydney fashion, Syd’s words were always, it’s not my job to feed into negativity, it’s my job to motivate and show people anything is possible. This is the first picture we’ve ever shown of part of her wound, but this is what was hidden behind her sock during workouts. Not to mention, she had another hole on the outside of her foot that the bullet came out of. I don’t know how I got so lucky to deserve this gift of her, but I’m beyond grateful. To think that out of two and a half years the only days she has taken off were the ones that she got shot and was recovering are beyond inspiring. Syd, I knew from the moment I saw you on camera years ago that I had to figure out how to get your positivity, knowledge, and heart to the world and I just want to say you have never proven that thought more right than the way you carry yourself every single day. A visit to the beautiful country of Malawi where @mindfulchefuk has donated over 1.2million school meals via our charity partner @onefeedstwo - for every meal we sell, we donate one to a child in poverty. Our new Pandemic Emergency Response Unit! Unusual times require creative and unique solutions. Yesterday, we moved Rescue 77 to Station 6 and dedicated it solely to Pandemic priority medical response. We are hoping to limit exposure to our other response units while adding and upgrading the level of personal protection equipment for these two first responders while limiting EMS equipment that could get contaminated am adding more decontamination options and procedures. Amazingly, we have fire personnel volunteering to staff this new unit. My thanks to Captain Martin and Firefighter Carpenter who first staffed Rescue 6 yesterday. They already have started to make changes and improvements to configuration, equipment, process.and procedure. #whypediatrics 🌟🌟Tell me what breaks your heart: I will tell you your purpose.🌟🌟 💥This frase was so true for me when I realized that I wanted to be a pediatrician💥 . I always said I liked kids and I was leaning towards being a teacher or a child psychologist until I started as a volunteer in a children’s hospital. 💌Working there, amongst all the suffering, I felt something inside of me , so strong, that I could not look away. It was 💔heart break. It was wanting to help, it was wanting to DO something. I thought I’dcontinue on with my college plans and went off.. but I continued to volunteer in childrens hospitals because it felt good. I felt like I belonged in that space giving comfort to children even if I “wasnt doing much” This led me to go into medicine.. hardest decision ever because I had to make this decision on my own. I felt my heart on fire and my purpose became clear... . Through the 8 year journey that was medical school I changed my mind several times about pediatrics.. Why? Because its caused me extreme pain to see children suffering.. even though I was helping them I felt pain in my heart every time I encountered it. I felt confused for a while.. if it causes me so much pain.. maybe I cant do it.. maybe pediatrics is not for me.. It took me a lot of meditating, instrospection and Feeling To find out that I was shying away from pediatrics because of FEAR.. fear of that pain. But you know what I discovered? When you feel that pain.. that is the calling of Your purpose. That is the calling of what you are meant to be doing in this world. That pain will lead you into the purpose of your existence. You just need to find the strength to do the healing you are being called for. I found the strength in the eyes of my strong patients, patients going through the toughest of diseases and the toughest of trials and even facing death.. and their souls still shines and they show you the way. ✨✨If I am strong enough to face this incredible adversity.. you are strong enough to be a pediatrician and dedicate your life to help in healing that pain and guiding them to health or wellness in different ways. As part of #HungerActionMonth, the Bloustein School’s Graduate Society of Healthcare Leaders put their efforts toward raising donations for @ElijahsPromise Community Kitchen. They gathered food supplies, hygiene products, and clothing items. This past weekend the students met at a local park, donned masks and gloves, and packed more than 100 snack and hygiene bags, as well as bulk items and donations such as rice, pasta, oil, and clothing. They packed three cars full of donations to make the trip over and deliver the items to Chef Curtis and his team at EP. GSHL was also able to make a monetary contribution because of the amazing amount of donations they were able to raise for the #Give5forEP campaign.
