Eu reencontrei meu irmão! Foi assim: ele me deu um beijo e um abraço e tudo pra mim ficou claro... foi sem dúvida um daqueles que eu me despedi sem tristeza, sem mágoas e rancores. Vivíamos do amor que nos foi entregue, assim feito todas as bençãos regadas de luz e carinho. Nos despedimos sem tristeza pois tínhamos certeza que esse reencontro mais cedo ou mais tarde aconteceria. O reconheci no gesto de homem bom, íntegro e de olhar terno e amável. Pela fala mansa e sua generosidade. Pelo ser humano no qual possui uma aureola de luz ao seu redor! Ele é feito o São Jorge que ambos carregamos no peito, guerreiro, corajoso, monta a cavalo e também me protege! Desses de dividir horas de silêncio e talvez ter a “conversa” mais elevada e enobrecedora que um amigo necessita. Bem antes de empurrar aquelas 500 éguas tordilhas no corredor, fazer estrada, alambrado, erguer seu rancho, mariposear seu açude e construir sua família, já era desses que andam seguindo os peões e capatazes, tipo aquele guri curioso, com ânsias de mundo que seguiu um certo Negro Sombra em Areco noutra época para construir seu caráter. Me encheu de carinho, amor e me ensinou algo que eu já havia esquecido: o quanto é bom dizer a um amigo que estamos com saudades e que a verdadeira riqueza de um homem está na beleza oculta das coisas simples. Me deu afilhados do coração, e duas princesas, os quais eu admiro e amo com todo carinho e respeito... e sorte a minha, também me tornei seu afilhado. Enfim, me deu mais uma família que me acolheu no mais profundo seio familiar que alguém pode receber. Me deu uma amizade linda, dessas que fazemos na infância pra toda eternidade. I have been overwhelmed by your messages of support and love since my over emotional revelation at the end of last weeks podcast that my dad, Trevor, had a major stroke a week ago today. As I write this, he remains in a fight for his life, at almost 91, clenching his fists in a semi conscious state and occasionally saying an incomprehensible word, probably unpublishable, in the stroke ward at Lewisham hospital. He is one strong mother*&^%$#, but at the same time, my siblings and I are encouraging him to let go and go join our mum in what would be heaven for him - a quiet life with his favorite films and books, their beloved garden, maybe a dog or two, far away from the vulgarities of 21st century life - including football, most politicians and especially foreign smelling food. I will not eulogize him here. Mostly because he is not gone yet. But regular listeners know what a real life hero my dad is, how sharp, active and brave. But that is the cruel reality of dying. It tends to take you away before it has even taken you away. My children, my siblings, my nephews and nieces and I, will never see that sharpness again, he will never march or mow the lawn at speed or reluctantly hug us again, the paralysis having taken half his body, half of his face and the vast majority of that beautiful and brilliant mind. That dry, wry wit. But his bravery, wow, his bravery - thats still there. This man has lived through war after war, but frankly he has never impressed me quite this much. I write this not to be morbid, it is actually an attempt to inspire. Today more than ever, in these most trying and difficult times, just reach out and connect with those whom you love, those that inspire you, and especially your older friends and relatives. One day they will simply not be themselves again. And you never get a warning or a second chance. Football will be back and so will the economy, so will everything else you love - your favorite bars, bands in concert, toilet paper and suboptimal shows.. But people? Theyre the most important.
