IRREGULAR IN-LAWS⁠ ∆⁠ Yesterday my inlaws / Mils parents celebrated forty-nine years of being married. When I say celebrated, it was marked only by me asking them to wear our pyjama suit jackets.⁠ ∆⁠ They met at university, but then Anthony had to wait seven long years until Alison got her Slavic thing out of her system - her words - and thankfully she did this because it resulted in the birth of Mil[orad] Stricevic!⁠ ∆⁠ They are wonderfully supportive inlaws / parents / grandparents, cheering us on in our new venture. Me he descargado la aplicación “Radar Covid”. La verdad es que está muuuy bien, y es muy muy importante que la tengamos cuantas más personas mejor. Te la descargas, mantienes activado tu Bluetooth, y si has estado en contacto estrecho con alguien que ha dado positivo en covid-19, te llegará un aviso. ¡No tienes que hacer nada más! No guarda datos ni sabe tu localización (os comparto por stories un artículo de la Vanguardia donde responde a muchas preguntas sobre su funcionamiento). Esta nueva herramienta puede ayudar muchísimo si todo el mundo se la descarga. Aún no funciona en todas las comunidades autónomas, pero si te la descargas harás presión a tu comunidad para que la ponga en marcha. Además, aunque no te de avisos, la aplicación sí que detecta ya los posibles contactos con otros móviles (que será útil para avisar si te has cruzado con alguien infectado). 🙏 Esta aplicación podría cambiar muchas cosas🙏 . ➡️ La podéis encontrar en la la Play Store si tenéis Android o en la App Store si tenéis iPhone. - @lametazo on Instagram

My Grandpa was a kind and gentle man. He was hard working, supportive and loving. He opened up his home to anyone who needed help. He was always calm even when things were chaotic. I spent a lot of time in my grandparents’ house growing up and it was always a safe place. The first drum set I ever played was at their house and I spent everyday after school playing it. Not once did he ever come out into the garage and ask me to quiet down. His health had been deteriorating for years, with his mobility and speaking ability taking the biggest hits. When Sam and I got engaged, we were so worried that he wouldn’t be able to make the trip out for our wedding. He made sure he was out there for it and he had a great time. On Wednesday September 4th my Grandpa passed away. On Saturday he was laid to rest. Thank you for always being there for me, being a positive influence in my life and showing me how to be a good person. I love you. #grandpa #rip #grief #loss #love - @jacobydrums on Instagram

Ho sperato nell’impossibile, ho creduto fino all’ultimo che fossi l’unico in grado di scampare a quella maledetta figura oscura con la falce in mano. Mi sbagliavo. La morte piano piano prende tutti, non capisco perchè debba prendere sempre prima del dovuto tutti quelli a cui tengo. Ho fatto il possibile, l’impossibile e l’impensabile.... ma alla fine questo maledetto virus ti è venuto a bussare alla porta. E fidati quando ti dico che non te lo meritavi. Con te ho passato gran parte della mia infanzia e credo che tutto quello che sono oggi per la stragande maggioranza lo devo a te. Sei l’uomo che mi ha insegnato tutto. Mi hai insegnato che la fortuna non esiste. Mi hai insegnato che la tenacia e la forza di volontá sono alla base di tutto. Sei partito da gommista e sei volato in Argentina diventando dirigente di una delle più grosse multinazionali del mondo. Sei sempre stato il mio esempio di vita e lo sarai sempre nonostante l’assenza di quest’ultima. Dentro di me sapevo che prima o poi questo giorno sarebbe arrivato ma... scusami non riusciró mai ad abituarmi a queste cose. Ogni volta che succede una parte di me crolla e un altra diventa più forte perchè sa che dovrà andare avanti sempre più sola. Nei hai passate tante negli ultimi anni, ti ho visto sparire a poco a poco nella nebbia e nell’ultimo periodo sono venuto a trovare solo il tuo ricordo... Tramandare i ricordi è stato fondamentale per te: penso che tu sia l’unico nonno al mondo che in ereditá mi ha lasciato terabyte di video storici di famiglia, con annesse lettere e spiegazioni di ogni situazione. Hai sempre filmato tutto, chissà da chi ho preso la passione per i video :) Sei sempre stato orgoglioso di me, ma non ti sei mai reso conto che quello che sono diventato è solo grazie a te. E ciò in conseguenza degli elementi correttamente e lealmente acquisiti dalla Procura su mia indicazione, a seguito di attività difensiva. Ho dedicato tutta la mia vita alla difesa della legalità, prima da magistrato, poi da sindaco e ora da presidente di regione. Ricoprendo ruoli istituzionali è inevitabile essere sottoposti a verifica da parte della magistratura. E proprio in quel lavoro della magistratura sta la garanzia di tutti i valori in cui credo. Ecco perché invito tutti ad avere fiducia nella Giustizia. Sono particolarmente felice di aver ricevuto questa telefonata così importante poco fa, alla presenza di mia madre e mia sorella. Im gonna miss my Grandpa Junius Leo Bennion. Gratefully he died of natural causes surrounded by his wife and all 9 of his children. He was a giant goofy cowboy with a PHD that shot rockets into the stratosphere. He was one of the softest and most tender men I have ever known with some of the corniest jokes and who knew who he was and what he stood for. He was always making sure you had a handful of Peanut M&Ms or a bowl of ice cream while you laughed with him. He was a poet and a songwriter who always tried to do what was right and loved folks as they came. I am so grateful to carry his name and for all the ways he still lives on in me. Thank you Grandpa, I love you. These two are celebrating 71 years of marriage today! One of the best gifts I have ever received is my Mima’s wedding band which is engraved with a sweet note from my Poppop. Having Poppop in Charleston for my own wedding was the 2nd best thing about the day (1st was Sean, duh) and I know if Mima could have made it she would have been the belle of the ball. The devotion and love these two have modeled for us is something I don’t take for granted. A lot has happened in these past 20 years and unfortunately due to the current situation we all are dealing with we don’t feel we can safely celebrate our 20th Anniversary the way we had intended to for our staffs safety, as well as the community. We promise next year (hopefully things will be back to normal) to make it up to all of you! About 20 years ago, Paul and Addie Silva decided to open a neighborhood ice cream parlor. After a rough opening year, they began to contemplate if they made the right decision but they didn’t give up and with each passing year, things would get a little better. As time went on, we noticed the same faces coming in daily or a few times a week. Though things haven’t always been easy, my parents successfully did what they set out to do, build a neighborhood ice cream parlor like the old days. You weren’t a stranger, you were someone here. They knew names, faces and orders before the person would walk in the door. They shared stories, smiles, laughter and even tears throughout the years. They were able to accomplish what they set out to do! Mom and Dad are still very much involved, just behind the scenes! 20 years later, with a lot of hard work and dedication on their parts, they turned a simple and fun thing to do during retirement into a neighborhood landmark. Thank you Mom and Dad for deciding to open your doors and hearts to the community! Of course, what would a business be without all of our amazing customers! A year ago today, my Uncle Louis (1921-2019) left us. From our conversations, I learned more about his career as an electrical engineer. He was assigned by the U.S. Army to help repair damaged radar installations at Hickam Field (Air Force Base) adjacent to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was wonderful and always humble (standing to the right of my mother in their wedding day picture). We were deeply blessed as a family by his compassion and kindness. - @bengelber on Instagram

I think I thought if I didn’t post this, it wouldn’t be real. My dad, Tom Belz, died on Wednesday, July 8th, at 4:15 p.m. I was holding his hand. Even when I was a kid, I knew I was lucky to have him as my father. He was a public school teacher and administrator. For most of my childhood, he worked two jobs so we could pay the bills. Getting extra time with him felt *so* special. He cared so much about his friends and colleagues and neighbors and cared just as much about *my* friends and colleagues and neighbors. I was 24 when my mom died. So he did the emotional work of two parents for the past 17 years. His house was littered with stacks of books—mainly written by Unitarian Universalist theologians. He always had a mustache and it only grew in scope as the years went on. He loved talking to people and knowing them—from kids at his schools to the people in our neighborhood. He was a great, thoughtful writer and had the coolest handwriting. He unapologetically loved to smoke. He had opinions and he wasn’t afraid to share them, for better or worse. He loved to listen to music, loudly. He loved that Riley gave him his very own nickname, “Poppy.” Over the last seven years, he and Riley and I had so many weekend sleepovers and road trips. It still wasn’t enough. I called him every single day after work. I already have a million things I want to call and tell him. I know he’s OK because he’s with my mom now. He believed in energy and his energy will be with me always. My brain knows that. And that he gave everyone more than enough to go on without him. But my heart right now is having a real hard time catching up to my brain. It probably won’t ever completely. He gave me such a secure foundation—but right now I feel like I’m floating. One of my favorite photos of all time — this might be too personal for my business page, but I think it’s a good reminder for everyone to take time to capture life’s small moments. (He’s technically my great uncle, but there is not much of a meaningful differentiation for me, since I lived with my grandparents my entire life, and he was always around, playing with me, and joking constantly with everyone, watching old movies in the den with Grandpa, and telling me stories; hes my uncle.) He was a Vietnam veteran. When I was really young, he used to sit on the old, wooden red porch swing in the back yard, while Grandma and his wife, Aunt Maona, were making dinner inside, and tell me stories about other very different kinds of meals he’d eaten during the war. I sat on the ground, my legs crossed, listening intently. I could see everything so clearly. He told me about walking along the stone fences of flooded rice fields in Vietnam; balancing his rucksack, and trying to keep his gun dry. He told me how his unit sometimes went for days with no food. One time, they walked until evening and came to a flooded rice paddy, then made their way through it at dusk, balancing atop the labyrinthian stone walls, until they came to a small house, where a local woman was cooking stew in a large pot over a fire in her yard. They asked if they could have some of the stew, and she invited them to stay in her yard for the night. He said they were so happy to finally have a hot meal. They sat around the fire, greedily slurping the stew which had large chunks of delicious and tender meat cooked in it. When he was almost done with the stew, he pointed to one of the bulls in the field that pulled the till, and asked if that’s what was in the stew. The woman motioned emphatically, NO! Bulls were too valuable to eat. He explained to me that in that area of the world at that time, they were seen more like tractors, or combines, expensive farm equipment, not at all like the beef and milk cows that were farmed in our town. What was the meat then? Well, the soup he was eating was made of RATS! “Rats!!” he would shout, and I always squealed when he revealed this, even the though he’d told me the story many times before. My third day on #Route66 brought me into Moriarty, NM where I spotted a 20+ acre yard packed with old cars, many of which from the 1930’s, my era of choice. The owner? His name is #ArchieLewis, an 86 year old New Mexico native who’s love for cars started in 1945 when he bought his first #ModelT for $40, a car he still owns to this day. As you can see, Archie isn’t much of a seller but nevertheless I really enjoyed my afternoon shooting the breeze with him and taking in the stories of a man who has seen it all.
