Lembro das primeiras reuniões que fiz online nessa pandemia: quando via o Nico se aproximando, eu ja começava a suar frio com uma possivel interrupçao. Que bom que agora eu tenho esse privilegio de poder viver a vida da mae e de empresaria de um jeito mais misturado. Antes a gente que é mae tinha que separar tudo. Trabalhar como se nao tivesse filho. Cuidar do filho como se nao tivesse trabalho. Uma grande merda, ne? Tenho esse privilegio de misturar tudo pq sou dona do meu negocio, tenho essa liberdade de ter um trabalho que permite esse tipo de coisa. Sei que nao é pra todo mundo, mas sei tbm que poucas empresas onde isso caberia estao de fato pensando nisso. Exige uma revisão profunda do “como” e do “porque” se trabalha. To vendo pesquisas mostrando que estamos no menor patamar de mulheres empregadas em muitas decadas. Outra grande merda. Jane 1 is our Vegan and Cruelty Free expert - as she is Vegan herself. Update; we live in Austin now and we took this very basic Austin picture but I have zero regrets. Also, it’s been 12 days since the movers picked up our stuff from our house and it still hasn’t arrived here - isn’t that upsetting? Alcoholism is a debilitating illness which can force you into choosing a drink over your relationships. Alcoholism is not just getting drunk. Schizophrenia is a poorly understood, highly stigmatised psychotic illness with a high mortality rate from both suicide and physical health problems. Schizophrenic people are not “crazy”. 10 years ago... I had no clue what I was getting into. No way of knowing the tiny human in my arms, was sent, in part, to break me out of my illusion of control. Within weeks my itty bitty powerhouse let me know, that she was here to do what she was here to do. Her life was not about my agenda. She fussed, she cried, she never ever slept. I fussed, I cried, I never ever slept. I remember laying down on the grass while on a walk one day, as I pushed my baby queen in her throne. I was so exhausted I couldn’t walk any more. But she only stopped crying when she was on the move. I sobbed in the grass on the side of the road. She slept soundly in her stroller finally calmed. I remember hiding in corners shoving Provo Bakery maple bars into my face. Wondering, “Can I make it just one more hour?” And then after a few years she started to talk. And a pressure valve was released. She could tell me what she was so bothered about. She could express her questions and her joy. It was magic. It has been magic ever since. 🌟She’s always been smarter and more discerning than me. Slower to excite but faster to understand, and not judge. I ask her all the time to let me know what I’m messing up as a mom. And she just looks at me with her sweet loving eyes and laughs. Never ever missing the absurdity of it. And tells me I’m doing great. That I’m doing a good job, even when I know I’ve fallen short. I’m so grateful my first baby so quickly helped me understand I’m here to support, not control. I’m here to facilitate, not force. And Ginger Jane is here to be Ginger Jane. Something she does flawlessly, without the need of permission and praise. She is my idol. My example. I’m 6 months old as of two weeks ago! (Sorry for the late post) My mom said something crazy is going on in the world and so we weren’t able to get our professional 6 month photos done. She had to do them from her phone! They still cute tho! ANYWAYS.. it’s been a month since I’ve filled you in on my life! I can sit up all by myself now. I’ve been trying to crawl but in all honesty I’m 98% on size for my age so I’ve got a lot of body to move around. I laugh and talk A LOT! I also fake cough. Not sure where I got the fake coughing from but since I can’t talk, it’s what I do. I did say my first word a few weeks ago! I said “Momma” and now that’s what I say besides yelling at everyone (including my dogs, I love yelling at my dogs. Did I mention I have two dogs and a cat. Their ears and tails are my favorite.) Oh I also have 4 teeth coming in which they make me drool EVERYWHERE and it’s kinda annoying because my mouth hurts ALL THE TIME. Well besides munching on everything and fighting sleep because I don’t want to miss out on anything fun, life has been pretty exciting! So many firsts and new things. Last month our friend Brooke (@nestingwithgrace) did a room makeover for five-year-old, Kaia—a strong little girl whose been through chemo, surgeries, and immunotherapy following her stage 4 Neuroblastoma diagnosis. Brooke couldn’t have done a better job creating a beautiful, calm space that will grow with Kaia into her adulthood, and we couldn’t feel more privileged to be part of it! I’ve been told I’m too much or little of a lot of things in my life but one I’ve been told for years is that I’m too “political”. Sure, I became politically engaged from an early age. I had opinions about the 2000 election in the 2nd grade - shortly after, removed “under god” from reciting the pledge of allegiance after learning about the separation of Church and State (I can hear that unfollow button being clicked), and attended the 2008 DNC as a reporter for my high school newspaper. Politics were not a taboo topic at my family’s dinner table and I was encouraged to ask questions, formulate opinions of my own, and even educate my parents about what I learned that they didn’t know - all of which remains a part of our healthy relationship today. Upon moving to Alabama for college, I started having people more explicitly stating I was “too political”, from the art I wanted to make to the people I tried to date - “women in particular don’t need to be political.” People just don’t like being called out for sexism and racism. Everything we do is political because we are inherently subject to governing that grants or restricts our rights. The sooner we stop pretending that not being “into politics” is cool, the sooner we can get shit done. You make art? It’s political. It’s worth asking what that passé or gesture implies. You have a job? Political. You pay taxes with money acquired from your job, that goes towards government funded programs. You eat food? Political. Where it comes from, who grows it, how it’s subsidized... we digress. There is no running away from politics in this society or any other. Not even van life will extract you. Getting political doesn’t mean you have to sit at the dinner table with my family and reheat your food with conversation, but it does mean you need to vote - vote for more than your self interest, more than a “side of the isle”, and based on more than your single news source. Vote because every single granted or withheld right is at stake no matter who is on the ballot. Get registered and show up. And don’t ever try to insult me (or anybody for that matter) by telling me I’m too political - it doesnt hurt and lacks creativity - @toriduhaime on Instagram

For the longest time, I wanted to get this sign project done. My home has an exterior door that comes right off the front porch and into an entry to the “office” (guest bedroom). A few homes on my street have this same set up that’s adjacent to the front door, which is a really cool set up back then and even now. They were purposefully designed for the intention of a home office for a doctor, lawyer or even an architect back in 1926 when my home was built. So I took a page from Windsor/Churn’s “Paul’s Boutique” door signage coming off its back patio., and wanted to recreate a fictional office door sign from one of my favorite books, “The Fountainhead”. It’s a nod to the main character, Howard Roark. The primary theme of The Fountainhead was individualism versus collectivism, not in politics but within a mans soul. I can resonate with that and now I get to have a creative daily reminder before I leave the house and when I come back. Yesterday was a very special day and I’d just like to say a big thank you to everyone for your messages of support and encouragement. To reach this milestone was extra special for my family and I for a number of reasons. In the recent months, my wife and I have privately fought and continue to fight some pretty tough battles. Some of you might already know that Jordan is caring for her mum as she battles with cancer. But what many of you don’t know is that our son has been recently diagnosed with a rare and degenerative disease. After a great amount of thought and consideration, we decided that it’s time to share this with you. We thank you for your love and support and want to emphasise just how grateful we are to be Levi’s parents. He is a true blessing to us and our family and we love him so deeply. Anyone who knows him knows how full of joy he is and how he always has a smile on his face. I would also like to thank the Geelong football club for the way you have cared for our family throughout this time, always ensuring that we feel loved and fully supported. The biggest thank you needs to go to my wife, Jordan. Without you I wouldn’t have made it to 350 games. All of those nights looking after our boy, allowing me to get a good nights sleep before main training and games. * New Government Restrictions* So Last night after an awesome day at @calmoncanningstreet and a lovely run over my beloved Forth Road Bridge (is it weird that I love a bridge?? 🤔🙈) I came home to hear the news that yesterday Nicola Sturgeon stated that baby classes are now limited to 5 parents and babies (10 participants). As many of you who come to @gillian_fromacorntooakwithlove and I’s classes know, we have more participants than that in our classes. So overnight not much sleep 😴 has happened for me but lots of thinking and working things out and I want to say to you lovely new parents - Our lockdown motto stays the same NO NEW MUM, DAD OR BABY LEFT BEHIND! ❤️ We will work it out! We will hold more classes if needs be, we will split classes into different rooms/areas if we can. We will work it out! You new parents have been through so much, we ain’t leaving you. If you’re a person of color in media, you already know that you have to work twice as hard for half the gain. Ditto for the food industry. So the recognition is much appreciated! I do hope that the @beardfoundation comes back soon and continues to recognize good work in restaurants and media, because it is so important for the people that get highlighted, more than any fluff piece in even the biggest media outlets. You’ll hear it from cities that get such a surge of interest from the America’s Classics, and see it with journalists who pretend to be too cool for school but still lead their bios with how many they’ve won. The voting process needs to be fixed, yes. But also remember that many of the people doing the loudest saber ratting about it will default to being on top of the pecking order, or already rode their own win(s) many years ago to career highs, and are happy to pull up the ladder. I stayed pretty late today cleaning up my classroom. I was going through these numbers that I used on the desk and held on to this one for a little bit longer. I looked around my new classroom and had a flashback, which are really common for me and those who have PTSD. I have them so clearly too, like I am watching a movie. I am using the same “wood” wallpaper that I used in the 1200 building. I remember how excited I was to hang that up for the first time, to make my classroom feel like a home. My students loved that wallpaper, so having it in my new classroom feels like a piece of them is with me. It is really hard starting all over again, but sometimes it is necessary in order to heal. It took me a long time to realize that is what I needed, but I am grateful that I did. Even though it is hard, I hope you know that you can always start again. I miss a lot of things. And even though a new beginning can be really exciting, sometimes it can be really hard too. 4 months ago I made a decision to leave my house in the middle of a pandemic . When walking to @healthyhoodchi I realizing how not only my community but the world had change I no longer saw my neighbors cleaning the side walk nor the lady that makes quesadillas in her garage . I would see everyone with masks , gloves , and fear . Fear of catching the virus that was killing millions a day , fear of being unemployed , and fear of falling into depression or a mental health illness . The first day of the @wegotuschicago initiative we were able to support 100 families with a kit that contained groceries , PPE , and useful resources . Doing the labor of it wasn’t easy it was stressful, draining , and exhausting!!! BUT the most rewording knowing that more than 300 families a day we’re getting the help to survive something our city our government and our mayor wasn’t giving ! Not only did we support these families but we built relationships with the people we helped we let them know we’re always going to be here . After long days at the @wegotuschicago HQ I would do drop off to family , friends , or camp city where all the homeless men and woman stay these were people who were going through covid or who needed the help I would sometimes even walk it with a 20 pound box to a home where they needed it because I don’t drive . I didn’t need a thank you I don’t need to be recognized because one thing my mom showed me is to always help one another because we didn’t know when we would need that help . • The point of this post is to let you know that . I’m proud of you ! I’m proud of whatever your doing ! I’m proud of whoever you are ( except the police and I.C.E ) but I know it’s easy to feel unappreciated I know it ! But I need you to appreciate yourself for what you’ve done you’ve either worked through a pandemic or you’ve stayed at home whatever you’ve done I’m proud of you . If you went to a protest and wore a mask but stilled screamed out “Justice for George Floyd “ I’m proud of you what you’ve done I don’t care if it was little or grand if you stayed home and educated yourself I’m still very proud of you because that’s a start . Nothing brings more comfort in a time of grief than old photos and a pup 🎞🐶 This week I was able to visit with and say my last goodbye to my grandmother, Buh. She was known as Martha Jean to some, but to family and childhood friends, she was our Buh. She was the first person I called after my first skydive🪂, the one who could get me to eat vegetables as a kid, the one who remembered my dog’s name and every grandchild and great grandchild’s birthday even when memory loss began. She was a world traveler, a cancer fighter, card game expert, the best cook, and so much more. She loved her family, Jesus, talking on the phone, and sharing her love of food. But most of all she taught me strength, courage, and resiliency. She was one in a million and will be missed for years to come. N I N E M O N T H S ...welp... it has dawned on me we are so close to having a one year old. Does that mean it’s time to stop saying I’ve just had a baby?? Nine of the most magical months, nine of the most challenging months and so many more to come. This month our little Strawberry has changed so much all over again. It’s like one night we went to bed with our tiny baby and woke up with a Strawberry full character. The cheeky little glint in your eye when we tell you no to ripping your bib off mid meal. The smirk you give as you reach for a phone or remote control. The giggles when you pull off Nanny and Poppy’s glasses waiting for them to put their glasses back on just so you can pull them off all over again. It’s hard to keep a serious face when you’re just so sweet yet so cheeky. You’re getting better at playing on your own, exploring cardboard boxes, carpet, floorboard, zips and tags but obviously none of the toys we actually paid for. It’s so exciting to watch you develop and explore new things. You are so so close to crawling forwards but I think you enjoy the extra snuggles when you get stuck under the couch because you’re still going backwards. Cucumbers are your absolute favourite with hot chips or mashed potato coming in at a close second. It’s now clear why all I craved were mashed potatoes when you were in my belly. Once again Aubrey Jean, you have made us the happiest Mummas and we adore every moment with.
