Better known as Tommy Tees, a long time resident and well known street artist in New York City had a moment to share his thoughts on the subject. • “It will bounce back. People will leave and come back but it will bounce back, people love it here. This happened after 9/11, a lot of people left the city. It will bounce back better than before, it’s New York, people wanna come here. The creative types will always stay here. There’s no way it’s dead, I mean it might change but New York always changes.“ • We went on to talk about how the pandemic has affected his business. For obvious reasons it has been slow. For several months the city was shut down. Tommy’s business depends on the millions of tourists who visit the city each year but it has been eerily empty. In the last few weeks more and more people have been out in the city. I’m hoping with that influx comes more business for Tommy. “Thank you Julia!” ・ 私ごとの投稿にはなりますが、前に進むためにも記させてください🙏 ・ 先日うちの愛犬ジュリアが天国に向かって走り去ってしまいました。とてもとても寂しいです😔🐶 ・ 今年の3月に急に血管肉腫という病を患いました。あまりにも急な発病でした。医者からはこの病は寿命2,3ヶ月と言われましたが、結果的に6ヶ月も延びて、先月の11歳の誕生日も迎えることができました🎂👏立派だったね。 ・ うちには6匹のワンコが居ますが、唯一ケージ不要の賢い子で😌トイレも自分で行き、自分で階段を上がって寝室に行く、そんな手間のかからない優秀な子でした🐶ほんと賢かった笑 ・ 病気から開放された今、先に向こうにいる先代たちと仲良く元気に遊んでてね🐶🐶🐶 僕は他のみんなとジュリアのためにも頑張って引き続きご飯代を稼ぐよ🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶😊✍️ ・ 笑顔で見守っててちょだいな。 いつもありがとね(^ ^) ・ ・ #ジュリア #shogosekine - @shogosekine0319 on Instagram

Blake Kunin’s book “Foundation” came in the mail yesterday. It’s a tight collection of candids (street + friends) and portraits presented as a 8”x10” soft cover with sewn binding. Some familiar faces and places inside! At 68 pages, there’s quite a few photos. I dig that it’s sequenced using multiple layout styles. Pretty sure all of the pictures were shot in San Francisco then hand developed and printed in NYC. Limited edition and signed copies available in Blake’s bio (@blakekunin) and blakekuninstore.com. Continuing our Staff Appreciation Month here at Duclos Lenses, well be taking a few posts to acknowledge our hard working crew that strive to provide unrivaled service to the worlds cinematographers. This brings us to Ned. With a family history in the film industry spanning three generations, Ned began working as a loader and boom operator during the summer as a teenager. After that, he spent a few years as a prep tech at Clairmont Camera. In the mid eighties he went out on his own as a Camera Assistant working on aerial and underwater, 1st and 2nd unit as well as visual effects projects. After almost two decades as a Camera Assistant, Ned settled down at a local rental house and began his career as a technician, maintaining a large inventory of cameras and lenses. Ned came to us with a wealth of experience and skill. His passion for the technical challenges of cinema lenses allowed him to dive right in with our technician staff. His daily tasks include custom machining of components for lens upgrades and refurbishment as well as delicate, precise assembly work for a wide range of products that we manufacture. Ned also contributes to our Cine-Mod department; evaluating, adjusting, and servicing a wide range of lenses from all over the world. His ability to overcome technical challenges and apply his experience on a daily basis make him an excellent addition to our technician staff. - @ducloslenses on Instagram

Our hearts got out to 97 year old fly fishing legend and World War II vet, Frank Moore and his wife Jeanne who lost their home last week to a wildfire on the North Umpqua River in Oregon. We feel for all who have faced loss due to the wildfires throughout the Western US. Frank is a true gentleman that visited our Lynnwood show when debuting one of the best fly fishing films we have ever seen, Mending the Line. Frank, with an incredibly positive outlook told The Oregonian, “As long as we have each other, we can always start over. Even after 100 years.” We can all use some inspiration from Frank. My uncle passed away from cancer this morning, just hearing the news now. It’s funny how sometimes you can take a picture and file it away thinking that it’s insignificant, but then rediscover it and observe a wealth of of meaning. It’s always surreal to lose someone close to you and in typical form I’m at a bit of a lose for words. When I think about my uncle, and his life that I observed, I recognize a man who felt resigned to his fate; always distant and aloof but happy to discuss golf. Mais uma foto de arquivo de 3 anos atrás, dessa vez nem tudo são flores, da descoberta de um mundo pra se expressar vem os bloqueios. Sempre tive o pensamento que iria melhorando a minha sem vergonhice com a câmera e com o tempo seria o maior cara de pau, sairia fotografando todas as cenas e rostos que veria, não foi por ai. Primeira vez que ouvi algo diferente do que pensava sobre a tal “fotografia de rua” foi com @diegocagnato , disse sobre direito à privacidade em um post meu. Eu estava tão certo de que tudo que eu fazia era por direito, tinha direto a imagem de tudo e de todos, cheguei até a ler um artigo com uma lei que me provasse isso, e me doeu muito ler o comentário do diego no post. Vi o porque da dor depois, existem muitos porquês. Os porquês são infinitos, as problemáticas também , tentei imaginar um código de respeito( o que seria aceitável a eu fotografar )para consiguir sair do mesmo bloqueio que quebrei junto as caminhadas com @vtrdam, mas as tentativas foram inúteis. Óbvio que falhei em criar esse código, cada situação é uma situação, cada situação que você vai fotografar uma pessoa é diferente ainda mais que nessa prática da “fotografia do cotidiano” ( ou melhor dizendo fotografar as coisas que você vê na rua ) são pessoas que você não conhece. Fazendo uma oficina sobre imagem enxerguei mais e mais o quão sensível é essa problemática, à lista só aumenta: classe social, seu histórico com o lugar e com os assuntos e pessoas, ficaria o dia inteiro aumentando a lista, mas resumindo o que tento evitar é de ser o fotografo empoderado com a câmera, e esse instrumento ser a sua desculpa e poder ilimitado para entrar em outras realidades. Evitar ser o fotografo de safari com meu cenário uma cidade tem passado pela minha cabeça segundos antes de todo click, perco vários momentos que nunca mais vão existir só decidindo se aperto o botão ou não, mesmo assim ainda prefiro minha cabeça fervendo do que ela leve. - @viniciuspiran on Instagram

Meet Garland and his dog Lucky! Garland was born in New York and raised by his mother. He joined the Air Force once he graduated high school and worked on the submarine patrol off the Galapagos Islands during World War 2. When he returned to the U.S. after the war, he met Wanda. They would go to dance halls often and his face lit up sharing those memories. He said “she would follow every move I would make…we were such good dance partners that people would stop dancing just to watch the two of us.” Wanda, who worked as a secretary to an Army captain, was soon given orders to relocate to South Dakota for an assignment. Garland didn’t want her to go without taking the next step so he proposed to her…he said that when he proposed he said “Will you marry me?...I’m asking you, because I love you.” She was hesitant to accept right away because she was six years older than him but he told her that didn’t matter to him. Wanda and Garland were married for 68 years. When I asked him if he had any marriage advice to give he said “Play the game right or don’t play at all.” Garland soon picked up the art of magic and he and Wanda soon became their own act. They toured around the world for 20 years performing. His favorite act was making seven live doves appear from nowhere. Garland was referred to our home delivered meals program because the manager of a grocery store noticed a man who was walking to his store to get his groceries. This man couldn’t drive due to his vision. That man was Garland. The manager started helping him with his groceries and then reached out to our program to further assist. We have been happily serving Garland for over a year now. Garland also shared how important his neighbors are to him right now. He spoke with love and care about how they all help him in different ways. He mentioned one who helps do the yard work around his home. Another takes him on errands and brings him some groceries. Another checks on him often to see if he has any needs. He shared how they on occasion have helped him do his laundry, clean his home, and even drive him so he can visit his wife’s graveside. - @mealsonwheelsanderson on Instagram

Sunday evening we lost a great person, friend, husband and father. I have had so many great experiences and memories that I will cherish forever. He was such a kind and caring person to everyone who was lucky enough to have met him. I am forever grateful for everything he taught me in life and business. He was the greatest mentor a son could ever ask for and to have 10 years to work with your father daily was the greatest gift of my life. Seu Ferreira RIP 15 Agosto 2020 Quando meu pai morreu, eu não chorei. Não por causa destas bobeiras, que tentam enfiar na cabeça da gente, que homem não chora. Não chorei, simplesmente porque não encontrei outro motivo, além de celebrar a vida de quem só teve amigos e ensinou coisas boas pra gente. Recebi mensagens de carinho de todos os continentes, todos mesmo, e olha, pra quem nasceu em São Braz do Suaçuí - MG, o cara realmente soube fazer aniversários, 80 vezes. Não precisou deixar herança, ensinou os filhos a trabalhar e ganhar dinheiro, também não deixou dívida. Porém, deixou valores que são impagáveis, destes que mudam o rumo da vida da gente. Aos meus treze anos, numa manhã ele me acorda, delicadamente com os pés e fala : Filho meu barbado, não fica em casa dormindo quando eu saio pra trabalhar! Mal sabia, que eu já tinha pedido escondido, para seu amigo arrumar um emprego fixo, depois de tentar empreender vendendo pipas na rua e trabalhar na oficina mecânica do bairro. Ter que explicar, por que eu precisava de R$ 10,00 pra comprar linha 10 pra soltar pipa, me incomodava tremendamente. Dos 0 aos 15 anos eu o idolatrei, dos 14 aos 25, inerente a idade, eu o infernizei, daí pra frente a gente se aprumou. Ficou feliz demais quando eu passei na FATEC, aposentado queria montar um escritório de engenharia comigo, ficou puto quando larguei e fui pra UNESP fazer geografia, ficou puto novamente, quando larguei, mais uma vez e fui pra UFSC fazer biologia, mas ficou putasso mesmo, quando de novo larguei e voltei pra SP pra fazer reforma de sofá velho na Av. Santo Amaro. Levou 10 anos pra entender a oportunidade que eu tinha visto. Mas em todas as vezes, foi comigo pra checar aonde eu estava e me ajudou a montar a primeira oficina. Sobre drogas, com um conhecimento discutível do assunto, dizia que se um filho dele “cheirasse maconha”, mudaria de São Paulo. Foi embora sem saber, que um dia já na minha casa, metido, fumou um narquilé batizado, teve uma larica gigante e comeu a porra do fondue todo, só não deu vexame porque só estava a família. Bamboo Shirt 【制作ノート】 シャツが着たかった 年を取るにつれ、普段の生活でシャツを着ることが多くなった。そうなると、山でもシャツが着たくなってくる。 メリノウールのベースレイヤーに超軽量のウインドシェル、もしくは透湿と通気に優れたレインシェルという組み合わせがウルトラライト・ハイキング的には正しい選択だろう。だが、いつも同じ格好で山に入っていても飽きがでてくるし、ハイキングはもう少し自由でもよいのではないかとも思う。というか、そう考えることにした。 ともあれ、いざ山で自分がどんなシャツを着たいのかを考えてみると、山での機能性や安全性を考えてメリノウールのベースレイヤーを選んできた自分としては、それよりも快適性や性能が劣るものをわざわざ着たいとは思えなかった。 普通の化繊100%のシャツは暑そうだし、ウールに比べれば臭くなるだろうし、魅力的に思えなかった。また、アウトドアブランドのものに多い過剰にデザインされたシャツもあまり好きではなかった。 そうして、メリノウールなど数種類の素材でシャツの試作をはじめたのは、2年ほど前だろうか。当初は単に「山でシャツが着たい」という理由からはじまったもの作りではあったが、数十回に及ぶ試作と変更を得て、山の行動着としてのシャツの機能性も見えてきた。 まず、シャツは織物なので、カットソーのようなニット生地に対して耐風性・耐久性に優れている。少し大きめのサイズを選べば服の中で空気がまわり、行動中の熱気も換気しやすい。さらに暑ければボタンを全て開いて熱気を外に出すことができるなど体温調節機能にも秀でているし、襟を立てれば首もとの紫外線対策にもなる。 素材に関しては、当初の本命であったメリノウール100%のシャツはさすがに快適な着心地に手応えを感じたが、試作で用いていたものは重量200g/m²と決して軽い生地ではなかったため、秋から冬にかけては問題は無いが、夏にはやはり暑く感じた。ウール好きの自分としてはそれで進めたいという気持ちも強かったが、どこか心の中で、すっきりと「これだ！」という答えを得られなかった。 そんなときに出会った素材のひとつが、ウールと似た調湿機能を持ち、対紫外線性が高いバンブーにポリエステルを混紡した生地だった。厚みもメリノウールの約半分の120g/m²（+-10g）で軽さと耐久性のバランスがよく、ウールほどではないが消臭性にも優れ、肌触りの良さも気にいった。そしてウールよりも生地の値段が安いことも大きな魅力だった 実は同時進行で、素材にパーテックス・カンタムエアを使ったもっと軽いシャツ（UL Shirt)も作っていたのだが、最終的にひとつに絞りこむことができなかった。バンブーポリエステルもカンタムエアも、どちらも魅力的だったからだ。 軽さと速乾性能はUL Shirtに大きく軍配が上がるが、耐久性は必ずしも優れているとはいえない。生地が薄いぶん汗もあまり吸ってくれないし、これ1枚で稜線で風雨に晒されたら危険な場合もあるかもしれない。ある意味、UL Shirtは長所と短所がはっきりとしたトリッキーな道具（衣類）なのだ。 その点、バンブーポリエステルを使ったBamboo Shirtは耐久性もあり、耐紫外線性も消臭性も高く、当初自分が考えていた山シャツのイメージに近かった。Tシャツのようにラフな感覚で着られるシャツ。山でも街でもがんがん着て、がんがん洗って、定番として着倒したくなるようなシャツ。 少しずつ、少しずつ、山と道のシャツ作りは進み、最後に耐風性を高めるために、襟を立てて止められるボタンを付けた。シンプルな構造だけど効果は抜群で、そのサンプルができ上がって山でテストをしたときに、ようやく山と道らしいシャツができ上がった気がした。 （夏目） #山と道 #yamatomichi #yamatomichi_trailshirts - @yamatomichi on Instagram

Marty and Z We are homeless down in Geelong but we couch surf a lot. I came up to the city because Zs pup, Bindy, was pregnant and got really sick. I brought her up to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital. I was so worried she was going to die but they took her straight in and operated on her. They saved her life. Unfortunately only 3 of the 9 pups survived... The bill was going to be around $3,000... but they wiped it all off for me which was amazing While Im in Melbourne Im living on the streets with Z. We keep each other warm at night... She is 17 years old and she is my best friend in the whole world. This story is from 3 years ago...
