The mystery of the Knights Templar in Scotland deepens at the village of ‘Balantrodoch’ The village of Temple was once the headquarters of the Knights Templar in Scotland but it was previously known as Balantrodoch. The Knights Templar were warrior monks, famed for their courage and fighting skills during the crusades in the Holy Land and indeed in Scotland! They were also bankers, landlords, funders of churches and cathedrals, and savvy businessmen. It seems that the Knights Templar presence in Scotland began after King Henry I of England arranged and introduction of the Templar’s Grand Master, the now famous Hugh de Payens, to King David I of Scotland. It was after this meeting that the Knights Templar were given this specific parcel of land seven miles south of Edinburgh: Balantrodoch. The Knights Templar proved that they were not only fierce warriors, but they were astute businessmen who ultimately owned over 500 sites in Scotland. Such was their standing and reputation that they became advisors to King David I and to his successors. Balantrodoch, just out- side Edinburgh, was said to have been the Knights Templar headquarters. The most visible sign of their presence is now the ancient Templar church where they came to kneel and pray in white robes -surcoat - embroidered with their large red cross. Just as there is distinction in Benedictine and Cistercian Orders, the Knights Templar wore white to signify purity, symbolizing their abandonment of darkness for light, evil for good. The roof of the church is long since gone, but the solid walls that once echoed to their footsteps and heard their prayers, still remain. There, you will also find a stone arch that is believed to have been the entry to the Knights gatehouse. The manor would have rested just beyond, among the cluster of trees. One of the most intriguing things about the Manor was that it stood only four miles from the castle of the St. Clair barons—the builders of Rosslyn Chapel! When Freemasonry emerged many years later, that family provided the first Grand Master of Scotland. As a result, legends abound that the St. Clairs were part of a link between Masonry and the Templars. - @returnofthetemplars on Instagram

The house itself was opened to the public in 1833, but continued to be occupied by Scotts descendants until 2004. The marine layer over the Inverness ridge was a welcome sight today. The fire is still burning in the park, but the onshore winds and fog helped keep the air in town clear. * We are grateful and indebted to the fire fighters battling the #woodwardfire and doing all they can to keep this community--human and non-human--safe. * We are taking things day-by-day, depending on air quality and keeping in mind @marincountyfires request to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles. The oldest house in Sunnyvale, built from redwood almost 160 years ago in ~1862. Located at 1234 Cranberry Avenue. It was a farmhouse owned by William Wright: who was a department store clerk in Baltimore in the late 1840s. He left Maryland for California in 1849 at age 23, a victim of gold fever. His journey around the Horn from New York to San Francisco took seven months and eight days. He worked in San Francisco, saved his money, and obtained passage on a schooner to Stockton. He worked a claim on the Tuolumne River in 1850, until a spring flood washed out the mine and all the equipment. Wright moved to Chinese Camp, mined there until winter, and then opened a store in the gold fields near China Flat. In November 1851 he closed out his business and came to the Santa Clara Valley with a partner. His timing was once again perfect, because Martin Murphy, fearful of a swarm of squatters coming down from the gold fields, agreed to sell him 320 acres. They bought 160 acres, traveled back to Stockton to buy implements and a team, and returned to raise grain and stock. Wright hired a man for $100 a month to teach him all there was to know about farming, and in a year’s time he was able to buyout his partner and purchase an additional 160 acres. Wright´s holdings grew to ~640 acres – roughly a square mile. In later years this farm would be surrounded by other farms with familiar names: Hollenbeck, Stelling, etc. In 1863 Wright returned to Maryland, married Helena Treadwell and brought her back to California. They had 2 children. After Wright’s death in 1890, his widow managed the property, raising wheat, fruit and nuts. The family lost the ranch in the great depression. In 1979 it was listed as a CA Point of Historical Interest. The tank house (on left) was an artisan well and helped farmers move from dry farming to orchards. Parte 2: A mediados del siglo XIX, ocurrió un fenómeno de reestructuración del capitalismo mundial, lo que trajo asociado una modernización del Estado y una readecuación espacial de las principales ciudades de Chile, debido a un ciclo exportador de trigo y carbón. Sin embargo, el apogeo de esta época no se hizo extensivo a toda la población, lo que agudizó la desigualdad de los campesinos y artesanos que habían llegado hace poco a la ciudad con el sueño de mejorar sus condiciones de vida. La llegada de estas personas, modificó el mapa demográfico, lo que planteó un reto para la administración municipal, que se mostró muy abierta a ser un instrumento para la mejora de las condiciones de vida de estos nuevos vecinos. Sin embargo, la acción edilicia se estrelló contra el panorama estructural de desigualdad que existía a nivel nacional, y no le quedó otro camino que abandonar a su suerte a la mayoría de las familias que se asentaron en los terrenos baldíos de las riveras del rio Bio-Bio y que las forzó durante la década de los cuarenta y sesenta a migrar a sectores como el de Michaihue en San Pedro. -Influencia de la implementación del Estado desarrollista en nuestra comuna 1940-1973.- Durante la década de los cuarenta, el Estado chileno, trató de implementar un modelo distinto de desarrollo económico y estimuló el crecimiento hacia adentro, plan que incluyó la implementación del modelo ISI, (industrialización por sustitución de importaciones). Esta estrategia de los gobiernos radicales, buscó un aumento de la producción nacional por lo que se dispuso a la creación de una red de Industrias locales alrededor de todo el país. Un ejemplo de este proceso industrializador, a nivel local, se dio con la instalación en San Pedro de una filial de la Compañía Chilena de Celulosa y Papel en el año 1958. Junto con ello se construyó una serie de inmuebles de gran calidad arquitectónica para los empleados de estas industrias. Además, durante los años siguientes, la CORVI (Corporación de la vivienda), construyó la “villa modelo” que fue un ejemplo del estándar que tendría la vivienda en Chile. - @sanpedrointeligente on Instagram
