This Daughters Day, lets raise our boys and girls as equals. Lets teach them respect and honour for themselves and each other. Lets make changes today so that tomorrow they can feel safe and also free. Being a daughter and mother to a little girl, I connect with the challenges women may face and thats what governs our associations with organizations who are truly working on bringing the change. Some of our proud associations are - Cervical Cancer Vaccinations in association with Meenakshi Sai - an initiative to create awareness about Cervical Cancer and provide vaccinations to girls who are not financially equipped to get one. CAPRO - an initiative to make the world safer for children. It is a youth led organisation that works to build awareness of children’s rights issues and abuses, and encourages young people to take positive social action in their communities. Kanhaiya Prabhu Junior High School in Gokul, Uttar Pradesh - this school was founded by my father with an aim to provide education to every child who couldnt make it to a school due to financial limitations. This project is now flourishing and the school is planning to expand its operations. JC contributes a part of its proceeds to each of these foundations. I have a hard time making commitments to myself. I’m way better at following through to commitments to other people. I’ve heard that it’s helpful for someone with this challenge to try to think about making commitments to the future self as if she is another person. . I tried. But then I began to think: this is bullshit. Future Josie is too abstract. But what about past Josie? Past Josie I can imagine. Past Josie has some substance... so I took inventory of all of the past versions of myself and I asked: what does she value? It turns out that the past version of myself who holds the values that I find to be most pertinent are the values of this little wild child. I’m guessing around age 5. She’s a pretty cool kid. I want to try to be the person she approves of. . She climbs a lot of trees. And plays in the mud. She has an elaborate imagination. She has memorized every word on every page of just about every Dr Seuss book. She likes exploring tide pools. When she doesn’t understand or needs help, she asks for it. She doesn’t care what people think of her. She laughs easily. . I’ve recently climbed a few trees. I still don’t mind getting dirty. I’m starting to recite poetry again. And though there aren’t any tide pools around here to explore, I can use my imagination to explore and find delight in the search. At times it is hard, but I’m also working asking when I need help, not caring too much what people think and laughing as much as possible. . Who is the past version of yourself that is the most true to who you are? What are you doing to make that past version of yourself proud? . You know how there are people you just recognize right away? My grandmother and I were that for each other. She died this week and I’m heartbroken. She drove me crazy at times but mostly she made me feel loved. In the end she was slipping and it was so hard to see a once vibrant, youthful person become an old woman. She was a school teacher and mental health professional for years. She loved her work. She loved her family. She loved my friends—asking about them by name and even knowing many of them. She lived vicariously through me at times which felt like a special kind of acceptance. She helped me a lot over the years—she even came to pull me out of bed after a terrible breakup. Today the matriarch of the Walsh family - an only child (like me) who raised 5 sons and never lost her quick tongue or strong democratic beliefs - died peacefully in her sleep. I thought she would outlive us all. She remembered EVERYTHING right up until 95 (and she didn’t let you forget). The last photo is her giving her sage advice to her great granddaughter this past Christmas 🥰 Remembering Grandma Gloria Walsh and thinking about my dad who got to be with her. when i was a little kid my grandma would take me to the airport. we’d get mcdonald’s breakfast and watch the planes take off and land. she took me on a secret trip...my first airplane trip and got in so much trouble w my parents because they didn’t know and they thought she took me to disneyland. she took my sisters and i on our first cruise. she gave me the travel bug at such a young age. i’ll always carry those memories w me. i’m sorry that i couldn’t say goodbye, but i’m glad that the last time i saw you we gave each other a big hug and kiss and said i love you. i’ll miss you grandma. i hope you’re okay now. ❤️ - @nicjrjust4me on Instagram

Today is the day I’ve dreaded since I was a little girl. The day I have to say, see you in Heaven, to my best friend. Although it’s been 3 months, it still doesn’t feel real. Grandma was the definition of unconditional love. She loved fearlessly and without hesitation. Grandma showed her love through prayers, hugs and cookies. She was always there to give you a hug, tell you how much you are loved and hand you a warm, chocolate chip cookie. Grandma taught me the power of prayer. When I would come to grandma with a complaint or issue, she would always ask me “Have you prayed about it”. Grandma knew, If you turned to Jesus everything would be okay. She loved Jesus more than anything else. Grandma prayed for everyone(if they knew it or not). Grandma called everyone “Sweetie”. She always said, “If I call everyone sweetie, I don’t have to remember there name.” No matter what, grandma was there for you. She was the most dependable person you’d ever meet. She made it a point to have a special relationship with all of her grandkids and great-grandkids. I am forever grateful for the bond and relationship we had. I will miss our Thursday lunches at Ted’s, playing cards and sleepovers with our Sleepytime tea and Antique Roadshow. She was kind, generous, humble, funny and selfless. NCADV honors Kathleen Bowen, who was killed by her husband on July 6th, 2003 in Shelby, North Carolina. She was 46. She loved her daughters above all. She was a Christian woman who loved Jesus Christ and prayed often. The simplest things made her happy such as fishing in the nearby creek or laying out in the sun working the daily crossword puzzle. She cooked from scratch and her homemade flaky biscuits would put Cracker Barrel out of business. Id give anything for that recipe. Though her favorite song was The Last Kiss by J. Frank Wilson, she thought Ricky Nelson was the definition of handsome. I can still smell her Foxfire perfume. On Saturday mornings, she always made a big hearty southern breakfast. First I could smell the sausage and the coffee and that was enough to get me moving. We sat that morning, just the two of us laughing and enjoying the peace before the baby woke up and the daily hustle began.
