-U NI VE R S E- Today I worked on my new microscope for the very first time. 🌱 During the last months I decided to get my own private microscope. After a massive research I decided to go with a Panthera from @moticeurope because the price-performance ratio turned out to be amazing. My Panthera is now equipped with a 20 megapixel camera from a small German company. The software was developed by the local microscope seller himself and is just amazing! I used a lot of scopes and software but I just love this one because it has a lot of easy to use applications. 🌱 Today Id like to present you one of my first images showing the extremophile cyanobacterium Chroococcidiopsis in 10x DarkField. This genus holds a lot of surprises but is very difficult to identify if it comes down to species level even if youve got DNA sequences. The agglomerating character of the uni cellular and tiny Chroococcidiopsis makes it even harder because morphological features are hard to visualize and describe. 🌱 Im going to update you about my impressions with this microscope and also the story around Chroococcidiopsis. Could really use some prayers and good vibes today!❤️ Woke up to Mac vomiting so we took him to the vet. Apparently he swallowed a sofa staple (how, we don’t know because none are missing) and is now waiting at the emergency clinic to likely go to surgery. Please pray he will be fine. My dear aunt who is 93 and in assisted living (unable to see family since March) was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer after discovering a lump months ago. They wouldn’t let her see a doctor until yesterday. She’s now in isolation in the assisted living since she left to go to the doctor yesterday - she’s super unhappy about that. I pray whatever she chooses to do or not do that she will not be without seeing her family!! It’s the 28th anniversary of the disappearance of my childhood best friend Dail Dinwiddie. I’ve spoken with her parents today and the police called me with some questions between calls with the vet and my aunt. Please pray for her parents who have had no answers, and lots and lots of things that have not panned out over the last 28 years. Please pray for answers and peace for them. If you know anything about Dail Dinwiddie’s disappearance on September. 24, 1992 please call the Columbia, SC police. I know on some level everyone is hurting these days between politics, BLM, fires, hurricanes and of course COVID. Please know you’re in my thoughts and prayers. While 3% of L7s may represent single root canal, 34% of them may show 4 individual root canals, c-shaped root canal morphology is mostly found in L7s, as well. Same Same . We primarily do PGS in our clinic and its safe to say that most US IVF clinics do a large proportion of them too. Bc of this we hatch embryos on Day 3 so that by the morning of Day 5, they are alreading extruding out the zona. This makes the biopsy faster and more efficient for the lab bc when we do not hatch we get embryos like pic 1. In those cases we would need to lazer the hole in the morning and then wait for the extrusion. Or, go in and pull out the cells, which we find more harmful. I recently conducted a survey that i sent to labs around the US and other countries and the vast majority hatch prior on Day 3, not the morning of biopsy, so we are in line with the majority. The 2 embryos at 4Aa i saw this week were actually a nice treat bc we did not need to biopsy them as it was not requested and we froze them instead. I just wanted to show you what 2 very similar aged embryos look like as the same grade but one hatched, one not. This way if you have embryos in either category you can relax and note that they are still the same. Embryos will hatch by themselves when its time! So let them! We just need to hatch Day 3 to make our work more efficient, so if you do not have hatching embryos on Day 5 and even Day 6......Dont Panic! . Enjoy the day! . This 26 year old male had a motor vehicle accident and unfortunately battered his frontal, orbital and nasal bones. The frontal bone had both anterior and posterior table fractures with persistent cerebrospinal fluid discharge. The whole frontal bone had dished in and also was pushing the right eye out of globe. Fortunately his vision was intact and there was minimal frontal lobe injury. We had to intervene early so took him to the OR. Is immune testing necessary before #IVF? I frequently get this question. Sometimes more is not better and tests that are not proven to be useful may do more harm than good. Today is the #transferversary of this embryo that now is a healthy baby. After struggling at another fertility center, this couple had all kinds of expensive tests that are not necessary before IVF. My new patient was terrified that she had an immune problem that would prevent her from carrying a term pregnancy and that would affect her health. All kinds of interventions were recommended including blood thinners, steroids, intralipids. Take a step back. We knew why this couple had infertility and it had nothing to do with her immune system. She was otherwise normal and healthy. I suggested she see a medical immunologist who agreed these tests were not necessary or predictive of any underlying immune problem. I literally wrote in her chart that we are ignoring all the prior results. It would have been easy to accept them and let another doctor prescribe unnecessary medications. She might have even gotten pregnant in spite of them and thought they helped and were necessary for her future pregnancies too. Any way, on her first transfer at #columbiafertility she conceived with a natural cycle frozen embryo transfer and delivered a healthy baby. What a day yesterday. I got to spend some time with @teagueholmes and were both injured. We came upon a parking attendant who told us that we could park over there and run over to the other side of the building. We both cant run, so I drove him over there and he hopped out of the car to do his errand. After that I went to the doctor for my 6 week checkup and he said that I could now sleep without my back brace on We both immediately started reminiscing about the time we got to ski the Grand Envers with Cédric Aubert.
