However, studies prove this is actually the worst way to take notes. (Not to mention the tempting distractions of being on a laptop!) Sure, writing notes requires more brain power than typing them- however, that effort pays off. It’s proven that typing a lecture word for word makes you absorb less of the information you’re hearing. Whereas those who WRITE notes listen, digest and summarise the information better. By encapsulating the core principles of a lesson or lecture, you’re actively UNDERSTANDING, not just transcribing, the words you’re hearing! #firstdayofschool Today is the first day of school for the El Paso Independent School District. All classes will be virtual for the next several weeks and possibly even longer. Although this situation is not ideal, it is important to make the most of it so that kids can still get a good education from home. Here are some tips for parents on how to maximize your child’s virtual learning: 📚 Set a routine: Children do well with routines. Make sure they wake up and go to sleep around the same times daily. 📚 Environment: Set aside a clean study area free from distractions. If there may be noise around the house, be sure your child has headphones. 📚 Stay active: Make time for PE if your child’s schedule allows. 📚 Get them to dress for the day as though they were actually going to school. 📚 Get involved: Be aware of the teacher’s syllabus and learning objectives so you can make sure your child stays on track. Teachers will be having a hard time monitoring each students day to day progress virtually, so parents may have to increase their involvement. 📚 Acknowledge that this new way of learning is difficult but temporary. Revirando fotos do meu celular encontrei essa imagem. Ela representa muitos anos da minha vida. Comecei a minha faculdade de medicina no meio de 2007, no RJ. Foram muitas e muitas noites acordada estudando, preocupada como seria depois de formada e pensando como iria decorar todos os nomes, doses e condutas para prescrever e ser uma boa profissional. Para quem não sabe meu sonho de adolescente era ser veterinária, e depois de assistir pela milésima vez o filme Uma Mente Brilhante e encontrar um professor que me incentivou a fazer um novo vestibular, algo despertou em mim e eu decidi ser médica. Áudios longos das aulas gravadas para ouvir, carga horária puxada, trabalhos em grupo (seminário integrado - entendedores entenderão! Rs), post It, cartolinas na sala de casa com esqueminhas para memorizar tudo, café em cápsulas e marca textos para dar e vender. Doritos, praia, vida social, provas, voo para São Paulo e mais provas! Foram anos desafiadores, que chorei e muitas vezes pensei em largar tudo, pelo nível de cobrança e carga que vinha junto com todo o conteúdo a cada semestre. Mas hoje relembrando tudo, que orgulho sinto da minha trajetória e das minhas escolhas! Que felicidade eu sinto de lembrar das lágrimas e promessas que fiz para Santo Expedito, misturadas com as comemorações e conquistas de cada aprovação no fim do período! Lembro perfeitamente da sensação que senti a primeira vez que coloquei um pijama cirúrgico, do dia que massageei um coração durante uma cirurgia com um professor incrível, da primeira sutura, do primeiro 10 e da primeira nota baixa. Ver a aprovação no fim de cada semestre e curtir as férias, sem mais nada para me preocupar (sem família realmente não sei como seria), além de ser uma boa estudante, marcou os melhores anos do início da minha carreira! No post de hoje vou falar um pouquinho sobre a minha experiência com marcação de livros 💭Então, eu já tive muitas fases. Já tive a minha fase que “ai meus livros são intocáveis não podem ter um arranhão” “ai certeza que vou lembrar dessa frase, não preciso marcar” e, sinto dizer, essa fase durou muitos anos. 💭Em 2018, passei a marcar as frases mais impactantes ou que eu achava que iam ter alguma influência em outros livros (se fosse uma série/saga) ou no resto do livro com marca texto. Era uma opção legal mas eu sou o tipo de pessoa que quando pega no livro quer ver o que marcou, e com marca texto é muito mais complicado de achar! Nunca que eu vou lembrar cada página que eu marquei né até porque minha memória é péssima. 💭 Só em março desse ano que comecei a usar post it e foi a melhor coisa que já fiz na minha vida! É a solução perfeita! Com eles eu consigo achar as citações de novo! Eu achei a coisa mais incrível do mundo, sério! Já vi que tem gente que usa lápis de cor e post it e acho uma ideia muito massa também. Em julho eu comecei a fazer anotações nos livros também, de início fiquei com muita pena de rabiscar eles mas depois foi... libertador? Sei lá, parece que a gente tá conversando com o livro e nem pensem que eu anoto coisas importantes porque na maioria das vezes são coisas bestas tipo “meu deus????” ou “passada” ou “eita” mas eu gosto muito, dá um toque muito pessoal pro livro! 💭Esses dias vi em um post da Hendy do @madrugueilendo (perfeita) dicas de o que marcar durante a leitura e achei incríveis as dicas!! Tinha alguns termos que eu marcava e nem conhecia tipo foreshadowhing, que é marcar informações que podem influenciar em outras partes do livro e ajuda muito pra fazer teorias! 💭 O que eu mais costumo marcar são: cenas que eu achei muito incríveis, marcantes e/ou engraçadas, frases impactantes que me fazem refletir e foreshadowing! It’s that time of year where things are starting to pile up on our to do lists... and at times we might be unsure where to start 🤯 I remember the autumn term of my second year of university was quite overwhelming - managing studies, applications season, work, volunteering, sports, socialising etc. Maybe that’s you right now, spinning lots of different plates. Or, maybe you’re just trying to imagine how you’ll get through this year’s turbulence and uncertainty. That is a lot to manage in its own right. If things start to feel slightly overwhelming, I always find this reminder comforting and useful: “Focus on the step in front of you, not the whole staircase” 🦋 Which *one* task can you start with today which might relieve a portion of your worries and workload? Maybe you’ve been putting off sending an email, finishing a chore, or getting started on your applications. Choose one of these tasks to tackle today. Don’t worry about how much else you have to do. Think of each task in isolation. It doesn’t stay for long, but when it hits it’s some seriously hurt. 😣😣 Many times in my life I’ve felt like I didn’t “fit in.” Like an outsider. Like I didn’t belong. When I start to feel like way, I lean so heavily on Jesus and His truths. How do we put the #Wordbeforeworld? This is something I’ve understood intellectually and spiritually—God comes first—but struggled with practically. Here are 5 ways to put God first: 1. Put the Word of God before the things of this world, literally. Start your day by spending time with God in the Word and through prayer. Doing this helps you focus and set your heart on the Lord before filling your mind with the worries and things of this world. 2. Meditate on Scripture. I and the ladies in my faith and fitness group have recently taken a cue from @gretchensaffles on this one by writing God’s Word on our hand. A verse or a few words from a verse serve as a constant reminder throughout our day. 3. Be constant in prayer. I don’t know about you, but more often than not I found myself complaining about things more than I pray about them. Here’s what I’ve started to do: every time I open my mouth or start texting a complaint, I stop myself and turn it into prayer. 4. Fill up on godly content. It can be tempting to listen to or watch things that don’t point to God, or even deliberately point us away from God. One thing I like to do is play worship music or listen to a Christian podcast or audiobook throughout my day. 5. Serve and love others. Jesus himself tells us the greatest commandment is to love God and love others (Matthew 22). We can put this into practice by serving others. What can you do today to lend a helping hand or bless someone else? Remember, Jesus tells us that those things we do for others, we do for him (Matthew 25). I hope these tips are helpful. Foco nos estudos em período de isolamento social e ensino a distância: Durante a pandemia alguns alunos estão tendo a oportunidade de continuar estudando com o auxílio do colégio ou universidade em casa. O que eu tenho feito pra continuar com tudo em dia o máximo que consigo é continuar acordando nos meus horários normais e assistindo as vídeo aulas assim que elas chegam (o que as vezes não acontece mas eu juro que tento!). Manter o sono regulado é uma das coisas mais difíceis eu sei, mas definitivamente é o que mais me ajuda a manter a produtividade nos estudos. Eu estudo sempre no mesmo lugar, sem bagunça e distrações por perto. No silêncio, eu não tenho uma playlist de estudos como a maioria das pessoas, não consigo me concentrar com nenhum tipo de música. Speak up 🗣 to avoid unnecessary antibiotic use + protect your gut and prevent future disease. Here I am in the pediatrics section of the hospital - where gut health begins (that and I love Keith Haring). I want to share with you all my story about something I just experienced with my almost 3 year old son. He got a big bite under his eye that swelled up. When it didn’t get better and almost swelled his eye shut, we signed up for a telemedicine consult with a pediatrician. The first thing they recommended was antibiotics. Now I’m not a pediatrician so I respect their assessment and plan but I wanted to make my standpoint clear. “My son has never taken antibiotics and I would like to prevent unnecessary use. Is there anything else we can do or are antibiotics necessary now?” Try a couple doses of Benadryl and a compress and if it’s not better by the evening, then take the antibiotics, she said. Well, after the Benadryl and compresses, he was much better. And like that, I narrowly escaped unnecessary antibiotic use in my child’s growing microbiome. Reviewing HSP on this #medicalmonday - also known as IgA Vasculitis, this disease primarily affects children 👶🏼 and usually presents with the following main symptoms: - Palpable purpura 👿: the rash is located primarily in gravity or pressure-dependent areas; this is important to consider if you are seeing lesions on the face and upper extremities in children who are nonambulatory - Arthritis/arthralgia 🦵🏼🦴: usually transient or migratory, in the lower extremity joints, and can cause limited range of motion and lead to refusal to ambulate - Abdominal pain 🤢: intussusception is the most common gastrointestinal complication because edema and hemorrhage can create a lead point - Renal disease ‼️: usually hematuria with and mild or no proteinuria While there are infectious and chemical triggers, the underlying causes of HSP is unknown. Immunologic🦠, genetic🧬, and environmental🏘 factors could all play a role. day 27 of the September study challenge😊 QOTD: what’s your favourite recipe? my favourite recipe is definitely something super basic like a lasagne haha, you really can’t beat a good classic with some homemade chips and garlic bread🤩 I’m also internally crying right now as we’ve just been placed in another lockdown meaning we’ll have to cancel our trip to cornwall for my birthday😥 obviously super grateful that everyone around me is happy and healthy, it’s just crazy how quickly things turn around and change. It’s kind of scary that we have no idea when all of this will end, the circumstances we face can change at any second which is exactly why I try to make the most out of every situation I’m in and get as much out of everything as possible. I hope everyone is staying safe!
