I did not come from the simplest family. I grew up feeling like I have to be a certain way especially whilst being scrutinised by the public eye and media. I felt like I have many expectations to fulfil and that I’m being subject to a lot of assumptions due to my family background. Because of that, I have always wanted to rewrite my own path. Growing up was not a straightforward path for me, but what rebirthed my perspective of how I see my past and future – was becoming a mother. People say motherhood can change you. That would be quite an understatement for me. It totally overhauled everything in my life in ways that I never imagined before. I started to want to change myself, as that is the first step to creating a better world for my children. And as I continued to learn and evolve, my heart began to feel for the Earth that we are living in. I wanted to make the Earth around us a better place for my children and the future generations to live in. One day, we might be gone, but we will leave a broken Earth for our children and their children. That fearful thought convinced me to believe in healing myself and healing the Earth we live in, and made decisions surrounding my new found aspirations. Becoming a mother gave me new found purposes in life, and shaped my vision in what I want to do in my life. There is so much good fabric that goes to waste - from deadstock to offcuts to items that are dyed just a tiny hair of a shade off, to large bolts of fabric with small holes in the middle, where 4/5ths of the fabric is completely usable, to items that are left half finished after a large fashion conglomerate unexpectedly pulled an order out from a factory. While we will continue to use this fabric in our designs as it is, unfortunately, readily available in Cambodia, and needs to be used, we will also put pressure on the larger industry who needs to take responsibility to reduce waste in their production at the same time. We hope for a world in which waste didnt pile up in landfills or in warehouses in areas where production is happening. At the end of the day we feel it is the responsibility of brands to consider their production planning, inventory forecasting, expedited production methods and demands, but instead, they typically push this responsibility onto factories who cant do anything with that waste since it was designed and made for a certain client. Some factories are even forced to burn waste because it is associated with a particular clients intellectual property. The disconnect between design and manufacturing is part of what creates this problem - and thats why were proud of the fact that at tonlé our design and production are integrated. Using fabrics that others consider waste, down to the tiny scraps - forces us to be more creative and sometimes, puts limits on what we can make, and we consider that a good thing. ⁠ ⁠ Photo of @sothysithh and @raksa_neth_ at one of Phnom Penhs many markets for textiles that larger factories are unable to use. Fabrics on the roles like the ones pictured here are usually more like deadstock - fabric that ends up being considered unusable because it was over-ordered, or because a brand cancelled an order. These distributors also sell scraps and cut waste, along with items that are not fully finished that failed quality control or were from orders that were pulled by a brand. - @tonledesign on Instagram

I take care of the details based on what a prospective groom may have in mind. We go over locations, ideas and what he wants to do to make it special for his partner! For him it was the flowers. And wow, did @gibsonsflorist ever do up the most exquisite bouquet of roses! Right now with our BC coast being shrouded in smoke, I think the only thing I like about it is that it looks like fog! While my lungs are not a fan, my camera loves the different look it creates! It could almost double as fog in pictures don’t you think? ! The smoke was not an issue when Andy contacted me a few weeks ago to help him plan a #surpriseproposal but we did discuss a plan B. Always have a planB on the go! A few emails and zoom meetings back and forth and we nailed down a location and how he wanted to propose. 25 ♍️ 🔮💜💟🦄 I made it to through the first quarter of my life!! Year 24...gratitude and uncomfortable is what I would name you...but you were good to me. There were times I didn’t understand why certain things had to happen but at the end of the day it always all worked out for the best. You made me slow down. Not necessarily because I wanted to, but maybe I needed it. You showed me “Today” is all I have at any point in time so be thankful and be present. You told me to be there for myself just as much as I am there for other people. You taught me life is all very fragile. Everything, I mean EVERYTHING, can be taken away from you in an instant. Take care of it. Appreciate it. There are far too many beautiful things in my life to ever take it for granted. I have so many people in my life who make me feel loved, I should always strive to give that love back. And just as every year...24 came with a lot of personal growth and learning experiences.
