Vor Ausbruch der #Pandemie saß ich sonntags mit mindestens 400 Menschen im #Gottesdienst im Berliner Dom. Jetzt sind es etwa 50. Kommen die anderen zurück, wenn wir wieder unbeschwert feiern können? Oder gefallen ihnen die Fernseh- und Onlinegottesdienste, die in den vergangenen Monaten entwickelt wurden, so gut, dass sie auch künftig lieber von zu Hause aus mitfeiern? Auch ich habe diese Formate schätzen gelernt und wünsche mir, dass die neue Vielfalt geistlichen Lebens bestehen bleibt. Vielleicht haben etliche auch gemerkt, dass ihnen der sonntägliche Gottesdienst gar nicht fehlt? Wird #Gott in der Welt nach #Corona noch weniger gefragt sein als bisher? 2019 haben 270 000 Menschen der evangelischen Kirche den Rücken gekehrt, fast so viele, wie #Wiesbaden Einwohner hat. Andererseits engagieren sich viele in kirchlichen Projekten, die noch nie Mitglied in der Kirche waren oder ausgetreten sind. Sie machen in den Jugendkirchen mit, unterstützen Geflüchtete, organisieren Tafeln und begleiten Ältere und Kranke in der Nachbarschaft, weil ihnen diese Arbeit sinnvoll erscheint und Spaß macht. Andere besuchen zwar nie einen Gottesdienst, singen aber im #Kirchenchor, weil sie die Lieder und klassischen Oratorien lieben. Very sad to hear about the passing of my friend Mac Davis. For years, I made a living improvising songs on #whoselineisitanyway. The first time I ever saw ANYONE improvise a song, I was about ten years old and Mac, already a hit songwriter, performer, and actor, was making a song up - right off the top of his head - for the studio audience of his nationally televised variety show. It was a like a magic trick to me. AND hilarious. I was blown away. YEARS later when the show NASHVILLE brought me to the city of Nashville, I got to meet Mac, tell him that story, and thank him for that early glimpse at my future. Patty and I were grateful to get more time with him and his truly lovely wife Lise at charity events and a couple very special dinners and they always made us feel like old friends. I treasure each meeting and the amazing and always funny stories he’d tell. My deepest condolences go out to Lise, to his family, and all to who mourn him. I have debated whether I should post about the passing of Dr. Jose Martinez-Diaz. I believed my grief wasn’t as valid since I only knew him through prerecorded videos (@floridatechaba @aba_technologies) However, the behavior analysis fire in my heart and soul was lit by Dr. Martinez-Diaz. I would not even be one quarter the Behavior Analyst I am without learning from him. His passion brought tears to my eyes. His knowledge and dedication instilled my devotion to being the best for my clients. His humor (saved in numerous clips on my phone for years) made virtual learning engaging and memorable. I procrastinated watching my last class with him because I knew I’d be a mess. The last two clips are from that class. I remember crying and my husband hugging me. He said, “Well, you’ll just have to go to FABA! Go to @fababehavior and tell Jose how much he means to you.” It was a kick in the gut when I heard the news. I’d never be able to tell him, but I’m wrong. I’m telling him right now. Dear Dr. Jose Martinez-Diaz, The number of lives you’ve touched is innumerable. Globally, about 1/3 of the food that is produced each year is lost or wasted! In developed countries, ~40% of food loss occurs at the consumer or retail stage, such as throwing away food not used; this is called Food Waste. Resources such as seeds, water, feed, labour, money, land, and energy were required and transported throughout the world. A federal judge on Friday ordered acting Bureau of Land Management Director William Perry Pendley to step aside, blocking him from exercising any more authority after finding that he has served unlawfully for 424 days. Chief District Judge Brian Morris of the US District Court of Montana wrote in his opinion; “Pendley has served and continues to serve unlawfully as the Acting BLM Director” and that His ascent to Acting BLM Director did not follow any of the permissible paths set forth by the U.S. Constitution or the (Federal Vacancies Reform Act). Pendley has not been nominated by the President and has not been confirmed by the Senate to serve as BLM Director. Today is my Nonna Pina’s 90th birthday! I am so grateful to have her in my life, to share my dream with her (if you haven’t met her yet, watch her in our series premiere of Bare Feet in Minturno EPISODE #1), to share family recipes with her, to share family stories, songs, sayings, our language, so much of our culture! Nonna has an impeccable memory, she’s such a wonderful storyteller, and I know I get my mimicking chops from her (she would always perform and sing and do characters for us as kids when telling us old stories). Growing up, Nonna and Nonno were voices on the other end of a telephone line that we would get to see in person every other year - we would send cassette tapes back and forth to them of my sister and I singing songs, speaking Italian, saying how much we love and miss them - it was the original voicemail. Here at Indspire, we’re very sad to learn of the passing of Leonard Flett, former Chair of the Indspire Board of Directors (2004 – 2010) and Board Member (1992 – 2018). Len was a visionary leader and champion of Indigenous education throughout his life and was instrumental in helping to guide our organization. A Cree status member of the Big Trout Lake Ontario First Nation, Flett had a long and influential tenure with the Hudson’s Bay Company and the North West Company, retiring as Vice President in 2005 after a 42-year career. He believed that economic development was the key to Indigenous self-government and exemplified that in his work: developing initiatives to increase Indigenous participation in business, creating 40 partnership alliances with various Indigenous entities. All of this work empowered Indigenous Peoples and ensured that communities could begin charting their own economic futures. Flett received the Order of Canada and the Order of Manitoba as well as the 2002 Indspire Award for Business and Commerce – and his book, From the Barren Lands, is the story of the fur trade through First Nations eyes: his father’s, grandfather’s, great-grandfather’s, and his own. I was privileged to have had him as a dear friend and mentor for nearly my entire adult life. Kind, patient and thoughtful, he was a humble servant, a generous benefactor, a loving husband, father and grandfather, and one who followed Jesus and reflected His grace in his daily interactions with others. He was an excellent image bearer of Christ, and his legacy lives on through his wonderful children and grandchildren. The restaurant industry as a whole is being demonized by government officials for failing to enforce staff face-masking requirements and other anti-COVID safety measures, but a new survey suggests that independent establishments may be the chronic laggards. The canvass of 300 operators, most of them chain affiliated, found that 96% of the respondents are requiring their unit-level teams to wear masks. My beloved Grandpa Bill peacefully passed away this morning in his sleep. He has been my buddy since day 1 and I feel grateful for the opportunity to have known him as an adult. He was funny, he was sarcastic, and he was ready. He lived a long, full, and wild life. 10 1/2 decades long. This is a pic of the last time we had a drink, just the 2 of us (he was partial to house Chardonnay). When one passes on Rosh Hashanah (Jewish new year), they are considered a tzaddik, a person of righteousness. The image of my dad walking in from a hard days work with a Fab (ice lolly) fleece, a Kingsmill wooly hat and this Londis polo hidden underneath is an iconic image etched into my memory. Though Mr. Nakashima had spent a lifetime listening to the cries of wood, creating furniture that seems to unlock the hidden souls of trees, he had never encountered a piece of timber such as the one that began life as a sapling two or three hundred years ago as a tree on a Long Island estate. Sharing from my sweet husband, Ron: Thursday evening, March 7, at 92, Dad went to be with Jesus in his heavenly home. He was a great dad, loved his family, his neighbors, his co-workers, his community, state and country. He was a man who said Why not?, rather than I can not. He loved nature, and always marveled at Gods creation in fields of wheat, the sweep of the land, the movement of trees in the breeze and the flight of the red tailed hawk. He was curious and adventurous, and loved to walk to that edge of poking a sleeping bear. Music was a lifetime love for him, and he especially enjoyed playing the piano. His life was filled with action, travel, service and accomplishment. He felt for the underdog, and championed causes for good. His vision carried him to many great places. He was a KSU Wildcat for life..and loved football through times both lean and good. He was a grand competitor- in sports, business, politics and life. Dad made the most of life, and certainly seized the day, every day. He will be missed, but he is no doubt in full pursuit of the glory he will enjoy forever with the King. Visitation is Tuesday March 19 from 5-7 p.m. The Celebration of Life Service is Wednesday, March 20 at 11 am. Both events are at the First United Methodist Church, 1200 E. The appointment of Maulana Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi shall be in honorary capacity, said a statement issued by PM Office on Tuesday. Ashrafi is a current member of the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League in Makkah and also a president of Wafaqul Masajid Pakistan. He has also served as an Advisor to President of Pakistan for Interior and Affairs of Islamic World and Chairman of Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC). In 2019, Ashrafi’s efforts to counter terrorism, extremism and sectarian violence in Pakistan and the Muslim world were acknowledged by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He was conferred with OIC’s Universal Award in a special ceremony held in Abu Dhabi. UAE Minister for Tolerance and Harmony Al-Sheikh Al-Nehan Al-Mubarak and Secretary General OIC Dr Yusuf Ahmed Al-Asmeen presented the shield to the religious scholar.
