Это какое-то безумие, конечно. О пожарах, мне пишут в директ десятки людей из Якутска и Якутии. А я понимая свою беспомощность в этом вопросе, не нахожу себе места. Неужели, в 21м веке, люди не нашли способа быстро локализовать и ликвидировать пожар, который разрастается на десятки гектар. Неужели, люди настолько безалаберны, что становятся причиной пожара. Неужели, нельзя найти решение, чтобы ежегодно люди не задыхались, животные не гибли, а на месте лесов не оставался пепел. Я хочу пожелать сил и здоровья пожарным, которые пытаются с этим что-то сделать. Пожелать стойкости духа людям, которые защищают свои деревни, свои семьи и свой скот от огня. И конечно, привлечь внимание к этой безумной проблеме. Пускай мое сообщение это и капля в море. Но дальше так нельзя. Я хочу, однажды привезти своих детей в Якутию и показать, где рос их отец. As we were preparing to welcome everyone back to town around 9 AM, Engine 2310 and Water Tender 2350 responded mutual aid to Zayante Fire for a structure fire that spread to the vegetation. Units arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire. In all, the size of the fire was contained to less than an acre in size. This was no doubt a scare to all the folks of Lompico, who just finally came home the day prior. While the Sheriff’s Office initially started evacuations in the area, residents were allowed to almost immediately return home. 2020 is certainly been one heck of a year...and we are ready for 2021! CÓRDOBA ARDE • En el Día Nacional de la Conciencia Ambiental seguimos sufriendo la pérdida de nuestros ecosistemas. Los incendios en distintas provincias del país arrasan con la flora y la fauna autóctonas, y el humo hace que a las poblaciones cercanas les resulte imposible respirar aire limpio. Esta vez azotaron principalmente al territorio cordobés, con dos víctimas fatales: José Roble y Cristóbal Varela. El fuego comenzó hace una semana y aún hay focos activos en Traslasierra, Punilla, Paravachasca y Sierras Chicas. Hoy mismo, desde la asamblea de El Sauce nos encontramos en alerta debido al fuego frente a la Escuela del paraje. • Celeste Camacho, integrante de Guardamonte y de la red Coordinadora Ambiental y DDHH de Sierras Chicas, se lamenta por la poca predisposición estatal: El sistema de vigías y el presupuesto para el Plan Provincial de manejo del fuego se dieron de baja. Hay voluntad política para desafectar medidas mínimas que antes se implementaban. Prevenir incendios implica planear una educación ambiental, tener sistemas de control y alerta temprana en el territorio; todas cuestiones que hoy no existen. • Mientras tanto, es la comunidad organizada la que pone el cuerpo. Santiago Tarduchy es miembro de la Brigada Chavascate y junto a ella, arriesga su vida para intentar frenar lo incontenible: Somos vecinas y vecinos voluntarios agrupados. Trabajamos con pantalones de faena y camperas no ignífugas. Estamos intentando gestionar el equipamiento correspondiente en algún Municipio, pero hemos ido más a pedir que a recibir. La Secretaría de Ambiente tiene, para todas las Sierras Chicas, dos personas y un móvil que no está en condiciones. No hay recursos en términos técnicos y humanos, tampoco hay sistemas de alarma ni puestos de vigilancia. • En lo que va del año, más de 80.000 hectáreas se vieron afectadas. Es necesario que el Gobierno Provincial escuche a las organizaciones sociales y ambientales que estamos en la temática, porque podemos aportar mucho. Cualquier política tiene que ser construida colectivamente, concluye Santiago. The festival honours pastoral- agricultural Kumaon society and is believed to protect rural livestock from all evil. On this day ,after sunset, each family prepares its torchlight that is rotated again and again in the whole cattle sheds and request to god to keep these animals away from misery and diseases.These torches are then carried to light the bonfires. People light bonfires, around which children dance, holding upwards colourful flags and sings Chal Khatarua dhaare dhaar, gau hi jeet, Khature ke haar (Let Khatarua (animal disease) travel from one hill top to another; the cow has won and Khatarua has lost).Cucumbers are also offered to the fire of Khatarua, which is said to destroy all evil influences and Animals are taken special care on this day. According to some people, this festival is also celebrated to memorize, the victory of the king of Kumaon over Garhwal. With wind-driven fires, forests closed, skies filled with smoke, and areas under evacuation, the Tillamook Coast Visitors Association (TCVA) asks for the public’s help by postponing trips to Tillamook County until fires are fully contained. “Our emergency services teams are all focused on fire containment getting people to safety,” said Nan Devlin, executive director of TCVA. “We’re conserving water, and helping those who had to evacuate their homes and stay in emergency shelters. This week, we don’t have the services to protect vacationers, too.” Areas near Bay City and Idaville in central Tillamook County, as well as neighboring northern Lincoln County, have been evacuated. Animals are under threat, and the community has come together with trailers and trucks to move them to safer ground. We think that up to 90 miles of Pacific Crest Trail could have burned this year, and about 1,800 miles of trail were or are closed because of this unprecedented fire season. ⠀ PCTAs very own Eleonore Anderson has switched gears from leading trail maintenance to fighting fires along the trail. Thanks for the photos and the work @ejandersonart!⠀ ⠀ Weve yet to assess the severity of the damage as many fires are still active, but were looking at a huge amount of recovery work regardless. Yesterday didnt go as planned... So, I decided to go on a day #hike to go George lake which is a back country lake above #huntingtonlake . I made it to my destination but shortly after I started to see smoke rise up over the mountain. It started grey smoke, then started to billow, and thwn the colors started to change. After just a little bit a super sweet couple came up to me to let me know that they had just spoken with a ranger and everyone needed to evacuate. So I put Yota in my pack and started my journey out. It was an eerie feeling. All the colors werent normal. The sky was a dark grey mixed with purples and oranges. The air was still. There was absolutely no sounds what so ever. No birds, no wind, no people. I made it back to the trailhead and started to head down the hill. I could see flames from the #creekfire . The trees were glowing orange. One tree would light up only to confirm its neighbors destiny. Whole trees were bursting into flames. It was so incredibly sad to see. They say theres an old curse: #mayyouliveininterestingtimes. Well, the last week and a half have certainly been interesting. I got up on the morning of Tuesday the 8th and headed off to work. The first four photos you see here are what I saw 3/4 of a mile up the road from my house. I drove through it to the next intersection and found a county deputy there. He told me the high winds had downed a power line and started the fire. That fire later went on to burn nearly 550 acres. I turned around and went back home, taking the video as I went. I spent the next several hours preparing to evacuate. When the call came, the fire had gotten a bit closer. Thats the smoke you see in the fifth photo. The Beachie Creek fire and the Riverside fire had also advanced considerably in my general direction. I have to say here that I was extremely fortunate during this event in that I had a small army of friends who were ready, willing, and able to drop everything and help me get out as well as offering a place to stay for the cats and I. @mrsquicksilver and Barlow were down in Klamath Falls, and so they were safe and I didnt have to worry about them. I monitored the situation as best I could through various channels, and the best source of information for my specific area turned out to be a community Facebook group. From what I gathered, even though we were still under evacuation orders the next morning, everything seemed well enough to go back and check on the house. The seventh and eighth photos were taken on the drive back at about 11am. It was actually darker than that, the camera lightened them up quite a bit. The house was still ok, so I went back to where I was staying and hung out with the cats. They were stressed, but adapting. I came home today, and all is well. The cats are happy, and I am looking forward to getting a full nights sleep. Through all of this, there emerged numerous examples of the community coming together to help their neighbors, volunteers fighting the fires, and leadership and bravery in abundance. It truly has been interesting times, and I am blessed to have the friends that I have and to live in this community. - @quicksilver.adventures on Instagram

With the fire season over for work it means I have more time for hiking, meeting new people, camping and hopefully photography and maybe climbing if I meet the right people. It a been a big season for us at forestry and other agencies. Our small crew went above and beyond with 27hr shifts after a burn over and helping save the little local town of wingello. Credit to my crew for pushing on for the season and the sleepless nights, hopefully if your back you all get a solid pay rise. Its been a great crew and a good first year in a supervisor role, despite a few stressful times. If anyones free let me know. With burning conditions not as severe as seen in nights prior, fire crews have maintained the fire lines of the Walbridge Fire along Sweetwater Springs Road. However, the Stewarts fire will be allowed to burn into the #WalbridgeFire in order for @calfire to better allocate resources across the area, according to CalFire Division Chief Ben Nicholls. Even though the Meyers Fire grew in size overnight to 3,000 acres, Nicholls said it is looking much better. Crews were able to hold the #MeyersFire west of Meyers Grade Road and it is currently south of Fort Ross Road and is in a confined area. Its another Monday morning in Wildfire Season 2020, and another horrible blaze has broken out. Throughout Sunday night, the Glass Fire forced evacuations across Napa and Sonoma counties—in Calistoga, Santa Rosa, Glen Ellen, St. Helena and beyond. This picture was taken by 7x7s Wine Country writer, Jess Lander (@willwrite4forwine), from her home (in Deer Park on Howell Mountain) around 4am just before she was forced to leave. Jess tells us that many homes and wineries, especially along the Silverado Trail, are in the line of fire. The Chron reports that Chateau Boswell Winery and Black Rock Inn have burned, and the beloved Meadowood has also been evacuated. 😢 Meanwhile across Mendocino and Humboldt, the August Complex Fire continues to rage on. With just 45% containment there as of this morning, the lives and livelihoods of the regions many small farmers and cannabis producers also hangs in the balance. 💔 We are asking for updates from you all about whats going on up there and, most importantly, how we can all help right now. Whats happening in California and Oregon in the extraordinarily early start to this fire season deserves to be labeled apocalyptic. Supercharged by climate change, the scale has already been historic. And at this point, there is no way to predict how much more loss and trauma from these vicious infernos--smaller outbreaks merging together into larger blazes-- will be suffered. The media has been full of images of these events. Still, its a special challenge for photographers and news organizations to capture images that reflect the otherwordly nature of whats been happening. This photo by Karl Mondon for the San Jose Mercury rises to that level. It was taken last Wednesday near Lake Oroville in Northern California. The effect he captured is called a fire whirl. The way it evokes a sun flare, a Zeus-like lightning bolt, a tornado, or even a missile all speak to the new unfathomable. We are devastated by the wildfires that are still raging across the western US, and are so thankful to all of the firefighters who are working so hard to protect us all. Some of you may or may not be aware of the large fire that is currently ravaging the Nelson and Tasman district. The “lucky” of us have to deal with the stress of potential taint to our grapes and loss of crop, while those less so are being evacuated and worse losing homes. Underneath that sound however lay a deep unsettling roar. Like a slow train coming toward us. I had never heard such a sound before. My first instinct was to turn and get out of there. A primitive sense told me I needed to leave. I launched the drone. From the air, I saw my first forest fire. I looked at my screen with a sense of horror. It was just a couple of hundred meters away and was heading straight for us. ~~~ Fires in Cambodia are lit by farmers, loggers and local people looking to either capture wildlife or clear land for agriculture. ~~~ In 2018, fires burnt in record numbers throughout the forests of north and central Cambodia. At their peak during the dry season between January and March, it is estimated up to 1,800 fires were burning in the country, more than in any other country throughout South East Asia at that time. ~~~ I spent 3 weeks in Cambodia in February documenting the challenges the countrys forests are facing. Overnight, the #WalbridgeFire grew from 20,000 acres to 21,125 acres and continued its push backing down into the Armstrong Woods grove, Sweetwater Springs and the Mount Jackson area. At the eastern flank of the fire, the Wallace Creek drainage continues to give fire crews difficulty, with the upper Mill Creek, Sweetwater Springs and McCray Ridge areas getting hit hard. The southern tip of the fire continues to move south toward the communities of #RioNido and #Guerneville, prompting the expansion of the evacuation warning. I was in NYC when the towers came down, reading Othello in class. It was one of the scariest days of my life. I have endless respect for the 2,977 whose lives were lost. For those missing. For the countless who died from the aftermath of toxic dust inhaled while saving lives. Heartbreak is too small a word. NYC is my home. But I want to say this: Wildfires are no different than two towers collapsing. Our country is obsessed with terrorism. I understand why. But we must start to see wildfires as a weapon too...one of Greed. Of Envy. Of Gluttony. Pride. Wrath. Mans persistant hunger to dethrone Kings....well...that is one explanation for why the towers fell. And so in another form, the same reason is true with climate change. If you cannot see how these fires are a political issue, I beg you- with deep deep love and zero judgement- please be open to understanding the complexity of this. Dont shove it deep into your mind and close the door. Dont dismiss this as natural. Start by asking, what are the emotional reasons we cling to fossil fuels? The #SlaterFire, now the #1 priority wildfire in the U.S., on the southern edge of our town of Takilma last night.     Our farm, as of now, is still standing.      It’s 1 mile from our farm and the core of Takilma.     But our nearby friends at The Meadows, an incredible intentional community, is in grave danger. The fire has reached their land, their water line has apparently burned, and we will be heading there shortly to assist.     The fires are burning slowly at night, then moving fast and scary during the day. Things are heating up again.      Thank you everyone for your support and love over the last week. Its been a rollercoaster. And not a ride we want to be on. And not a ride thats over.       We have gusty SW winds predicted again which aid in smoke reduction, causing increased fire at lower elevations. When the inversion breaks, change is coming. Day 2b:EVACUATE! Midnight comes along and there is a knock at our door-actually every door at the resort—fire jumped the creek and moving straight towards us in high winds. We were trying to quickly figure out how to get 8 people, 7 bikes and 1 car out of the path of the fire-we we’re preparing to jump on our bikes and figure some sort of shuttle thing-when we found a couple with a pickup that offered to haul the bikes and some people-so we loaded up the car with 5 people/2 bikes and truck with 5 bikes and 3 people(in the back) and took off for Bend. After a bunch of searching we found a hotel with rooms and headed there. Ben, Amy and Danette were frozen after 90 minutes in the cold. We didn’t get much sleep but we are safe and now headed back home. Ancient Redwood trees and Californias oldest state park have been devastated by the recent wildfires. Spanning some 18,000 acres, the 118 year old state park is the home to the largest growth of redwoods south of San Francisco. And so, I found myself along Highway 236, where due to debris on the road, I had to hike all the way into the park, which was a little over 5 miles. Smoke hung in the air, and the sun made it feel like a weird dystopian future. I came across redwoods that had fallen across the road and were still on fire.
