All at New Brighton RNLI wish to extend their sincere sympathies to the family involved in yesterday’s tragedy. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time. New Brighton RNLI along with RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station and RNLI Lifeguards North West from New Brighton and Harrison Drive responded to yesterday’s incident after two walkers and a dog got into difficulty on the promenade off Portland slipway. The Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team was also tasked. Weather conditions at the time were not good with a strong north west wind force 6, gusting up to 7 and a flooding tide. On arrival, our inshore lifeboat crew rescued the man and dog from the water and we would like to wish them a speedy recovery. - Triangle Wreck off the coast of North Carolina - Two separate ships wrecked 2 years apart (1927 and 1929). The first was a Tanker who’s hull ruptured in a storm. The second was a freighter who became lost as sea and wrecked itself on the remains of the first, cutting the original tanker in half.

Il 28 agosto 1971 a bordo del traghetto greco Heleanna, scoppiò un incendio mentre si trovava al largo delle coste tra Monopoli e Brindisi. Nella tragedia perirono 24 turisti e 16 furono i dispersi; tra i 1089 superstiti ci furono 271 feriti. Vi fu una grande gara di solidarietà e di aiuti da parte dei cittadini di Monopoli, Brindisi e Fasano che ospitarono a casa loro, i naufraghi offrendo da mangiare, vestiti e soprattutto dando un grande supporto morale. La popolazione di Monopoli nel 1972 ricevette la “Medaglia d’Argento al Merito Civile”. La cittadinanza di Monopoli ha fatto realizzare un bassorilievo dallo scultore prof.
