Picture Book Biography: A Picture Book of Martin Luther King, Jr. (Paperback)
I had an uncle. His name was Reggie and according to family legend all the girls thought he was fine. Reggie was 21 when he lost his life. Marines are no effing joke so I like to think Reggie lost his life in Vietnam fighting for love of his country even though his country wasn’t loving him. But he was 21 which seems so young. And knowing what I know about our country and its wars I just wonder why. Because I wish I could’ve met Reggie. Wars have consequences- real ass consequences. Wishing everyone a happy memorial day and also a somber one because you can have both . But also go vote - because nobody should be missing the Reggie in their life. #memorialday - @amayajane on Instagram

How to join? . Give away, donate or swap your pre-owned or unsold items sleeping in the wardrobe through @lablaco, the in-app Fashion Footprint Calculator will calculate the estimated amount of Water and CO2 you saved for each item. Images Modeling Troupe, Inc. mourns the loss of one of our 12 Founding Models, Mr. Klarque Garrison. Brother K. Garrison was a one of a kind, dynamic visionary who played an integral role in creating our beloved organization. He was also a key role in pulling members, past and present, together to ensure that the legacy of IMT continued to thrive year after year. This fall would have been the 35th Anniversary of him being a part of those 12 Immaculate men & women who had a love for fashion and modeling, and since those humble beginnings of IMAGES, hundreds of men & women have held membership, and many have left with a better understanding and belief in themselves and their capabilities. Klarque was also a member of The World Renowned FAMU Marching “100” where he served as a Drum Major, as well a member of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. He was truly a giant across numerous platforms and his physical presence will forever be missed, however his legacy will forever live on! The IMT Family sends our deepest condolences to his wife, children, and all of his many family and friends. -Matthew 11:28-30- #TheImage #TheReflection #Founder #iMAGES1985 #WALKiMT #RestInPOWER Graphic Designer 💻: @ahmadragland - @imagesmodelingtroupe on Instagram

“Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial ‘outside agitator’ idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds.” -#MLK Letter from Birmingham Jail, 4/16/63, #BlackLivesMatter Photo: MLK’s mugshot following his 1963 arrest in Birmingham. - @livedtheology on Instagram
The March on Washington was a peaceful protest. It got the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed, and led to the Selma Voting Rights Movement and the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Let us *please* seek REAL justice for Floyd, and any other person who has been a victim of abuses of power. The only way to do this is by changing laws, raising money, winning the culture war and coming together as a COMMUNITY, not 🔥burning communities and inciting more hatred and violence. Violence, no matter how you attempt to justify it, only begets more violence. . This is not what “justice” looks like. Yet white kids on social media keep cheering on riots like a fashion trend for peer-group cool points, completely out of touch with real life consequences for people like this black man. Who will clean up the flaming rubble of people’s houses and POC businesses across our already divided country? We just leave the mess for our brothers and sisters to deal with, and leave many of them hospitalized? How does hurting your own team “teach the cops a lesson?” What does real change look like? Well, consider raising money for this guy (second photo) Korboi Balla on GoFundMe to pay back the damages, and volunteer to go clean all those cities. It’s the right thing to do- rather than the “trendy” thing. - @lancecourtney on Instagram

Martin Luther King Jr. had stayed up until four in the morning the night before the March on Washington, 57 years ago today. And when he finished, he still wasn’t completely satisfied with the end product. He simply ran out of time. What could one really accomplish in five minutes, the time limit for all the speakers that day? King was making his way through his speech when he heard the voice of Mahalia Jackson, the “Queen of Gospel” who had traveled around with King to sing songs in places he gave talks. Jackson had sung two spirituals that day and was no more than 10 feet away from King (circled in red) when, in the middle of the speech she yelled, “Tell them about the dream Martin!” King lit up. He knew what she meant. She was with him in various cities when he uttered the words “I Have A Dream,” with a specific phrase or two about that city. King looked up from his paper and diverted his path. “I say to you today my friends, so although we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I have a Dream.” And the rest is history. King’s tangent became the title of his speech, which was named the best speech of the 20th Century by American Rhetoric.
