llega una nueva muestra a la #FotogaleriaParqueRodo: Siglo Benedetti: a 100 años de su nacimiento . Una muestra que recorre su vida a través de imágenes de la Fundación Mario Benedetti y del fotógrafo Eduardo Longoni. . Las primeras fotos que nos han llegado sobre Mario Benedetti (1920-2009) provienen del mundo de su infancia. Aquella arcadia de disfraces y dificultades económicas da paso, luego, a las imágenes de la juventud y a las de sus primeros viajes. Luego llegan las fotos de la madurez, que coinciden con el tiempo del exilio en Argentina, Perú, Cuba y España. Y luego las del desexilio y el regreso al Uruguay. Las fotos provienen mayoritariamente del archivo de más de 800 piezas que el escritor guardaba en su casa, y que ahora custodia la fundación que lleva su nombre. . En su conjunto, la muestra refleja a un autor que forma parte del paisaje sensible de su ciudad y que, desde ese lugar, permanece en el recuerdo y el presente de sus prójimos. . Weve got some exciting news to share! We have recently been successful for an Esmee Fairbairn funded project to digitise, catalogue and share with you some never-before-seen photographs from Ealing Studios. ‘Shooting Stars: Behind the Scenes at Ealing Studios’ will look at the photographic collection of Stills Photographer Roy Gough. He photographed some of the biggest stars of the mid 20th century including Sir Roger Moore, Audrey Hepburn, Sir Alec Guinness and Sir Michael Redgrave and worked on well-known Ealing Studios films like The Captive Heart and Whisky Galore! Over the next few months we will be sharing some of these photographs online. This image is of Sir Michael Balcon and Sir Harry Secombe on the set of the comedy-drama “Davy”. Balcon ran Ealing Studios from 1938-1955 and is a legendary figure in the British Film Industry, producing some of Ealing Studios’ most well-known films such as Passport to Pimlico and The Lavender Hill Mob. Who remembers this film? Im heartbroken over the passing of director Joel Schumacher & wanted to tell you all what a wonderful man he was. I was fortunate enough to have worked with him on the films Falling Down & Flawless. After I auditioned for him for Falling Down, he hugged me. Then he said What an actress! He was so nice that I thought I’d done so poorly that he felt sorry for me. It was only when I got the part that I realized he was being sincere. How could someone be THAT kind, I wondered? Working with him on Falling Down was a dream. I was so young & working with such big names, but Joel made me feel like I belonged there. I couldnt believe my luck when he wanted to work with me again on Flawless. Even though my role was small, he invited me to be part of the private reading of the film he had with De Niro, Philip Seymour Hoffman and just 2 others and had me read several of the roles. Later, he invited me to a personal celebration of his along with Phil. I didnt know what I’d done to gain this kind of affection from him, but I felt a special bond with him that was hard to explain. In 2018, I reached out to him regarding a film I’m producing & he read it & gave me feedback. WHO DOES THAT? In an interview of his I saw last night, he said his success was made up of a series of people who had taken a chance on him. Well, dear Joel, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking a chance on me. Im forever grateful to you and will never forget how good you were to me. He taught us how to fly. He led dead poets. He was the therapist we didn’t know we needed. He clowned around when we were down and was always there to patch things up. He made genies and magic feel real and he was probably our generations first exposure to cross dressing and lord was he fabulous. Every movie he starred in and every character he played during that golden age showed us how to show up fully, love passionately, to give second chances, to put family first and to fight to get through to people even when it seems like a lost cause. He was an brilliant actor and a hilarious comedian, but he was more than that. All he ever did was use his gifts to make the world a better place. Then a day came when the world was too much for him, and alone one cold morning he took his own life. Just like Anthony Bourdain, Chester Bennington, Avicii, and Chris Cornell, too many of the men who inspire us and light the way lose the will to live and struggle to find that light within themselves. In a world where it seems the very worst of men make decisions for the rest of us, I find myself increasingly focused on looking at human issues from the perspective of mental, emotional, and spiritual health. If even millionaires who have accomplished all of their dreams want to die, I can only imagine how many countless souls in the world are struggling to survive. There’s a quote I like that says ‘be kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle that you know nothing about’ but I would take it one step further. Love fearlessly and courageously cause nothing in this life is promised. In a world that obsesses over looks and status and self protection, and from a generation that says “do less” I would challenge us to practice radical love, radical compassion, and radical patience for those around us. It’s been said that the smallest amount of love could change someone’s day, and perhaps now we can take that a step further and recognize that any act of love in this day and age could literally save a life. So here’s to one of the greatest of his generation and may we honor his memory by being messengers of those little acts love. - @dustinthomasxo on Instagram

John Hurt took up the guitar at age nine and played ragtime at local parties throughout his younger years. He was discovered by Okeh Records in 1927 when they passed through his hometown of Avalon, Mississippi. He soon left and began recording in cities like Memphis and New York. Hurt played more of a soft style of Blues, had not performed in large venues until later in life when he played at the Newport Folk Festival in 1963. Not enough people remember Lillian Smith. She was one of the first white southern authors to crusade against the evils of segregation. Her novel “Strange Fruit” (1944) explored an interracial relationship in a small southern town. Her book “Killers of the Dream” (1949) explored the roots of white privilege and later became a handbook for Freedom Riders in the early 1960s. Her lifelong relationship with a same-sex partner taught her firsthand about intolerance and repression. A child of the South, she was deemed a traitor of the South. She pushed back throughout her life and supported friends such as Eleanor Roosevelt and Martin Luther King, Jr. For her efforts, she was ridiculed, threatened and never fully recognized for her literary abilities. This documentary will explore her life and work, especially as it relates to today’s contentious times, which makes her work more relevant than ever.
