#Madrid #patrimoniomadrid #patrimonio #archivosmadrid #comunidaddemadrid #archivos #documentos #archivoregionalmadrid #profesionesantiguas - @patrimoniocm on Instagram

( Hysteria ) As she laughed I was aware of becoming involved in her laughter and being part of it, until her teeth were only accidental stars with a talent for squad-drill. I was drawn in by short gasps, inhaled at each momentary recovery, lost finally in the dark caverns of her throat, bruised by the ripple of unseen muscles. An elderly waiter with trembling hands was hurriedly spreading a pink and white checked cloth over the rusty green iron table, saying: “If the lady and gentleman wish to take their tea in the garden, if the lady and gentleman wish to take their tea in the garden…” I decided that if the shaking of her breasts could be stopped, some of the fragments of the afternoon might be collected, and I concentrated my attention with careful subtlety to this end. A double whammy in Birthdays today; Mark Rothko and Robert Bresson. I ran across this description of Bresson and thought it could also be about Rothko “the filmmaker has attained an even deeper mystique, compelling viewers to project their own emotional and psychological interpretations onto his spare images. Perhaps that was the point all along: the ascetic, objective and sparse nature of his work creates a wide canvas that invites and envelopes the careful viewer, and leaves us enraptured.” #bornthisday #markrothko #robertbresson #auhazardbalthazar #annewiazemsky #pickpocket #thetrialofjoanofarc #l’agent #diaryofacountrypriest - @dimitri_unique on Instagram

Weve got some exciting news to share! We have recently been successful for an Esmee Fairbairn funded project to digitise, catalogue and share with you some never-before-seen photographs from Ealing Studios. ‘Shooting Stars: Behind the Scenes at Ealing Studios’ will look at the photographic collection of Stills Photographer Roy Gough. He photographed some of the biggest stars of the mid 20th century including Sir Roger Moore, Audrey Hepburn, Sir Alec Guinness and Sir Michael Redgrave and worked on well-known Ealing Studios films like The Captive Heart and Whisky Galore! Over the next few months we will be sharing some of these photographs online. This image is of Sir Michael Balcon and Sir Harry Secombe on the set of the comedy-drama “Davy”. Balcon ran Ealing Studios from 1938-1955 and is a legendary figure in the British Film Industry, producing some of Ealing Studios’ most well-known films such as Passport to Pimlico and The Lavender Hill Mob. Who remembers this film? We would love for our community to help us to describe these photos, identify the people in them and share your memories of these iconic films and figures to help us catalogue this unique collection. #ShootingStars #EalingStudios #Cinema #FortheLoveofGunnesbury #MichaelBalcon #HarrySecombe #filmnoir - @gunnersburyparkmuseum on Instagram

Happy Birthday, William Faulkner! The man, the myth, the legend was born on this day in 1897 in New Albany, Mississippi. Shortly before his fifth birthday, the Falkner family relocated to Oxford, where he stayed for much of his life. The Nobel Prize-winning author is best known for his novels that took place in fictional Yoknapatawpha County, which was modeled after Lafayette County, Mississippi. While his home in Oxford, Rowan Oak, is currently closed to the public, the grounds and nearby Bailey Woods Trail are open from dawn until dusk daily. #williamfaulkner #rowanoak #oxfordms #olemiss #onthisday #happybirthday #hbd @visitoxfordms @cityofoxfordms @olemiss - @ummuseum on Instagram

- Who was Eise Eisenga and what made him build the oldest still working planetarium in the world? It was the prediction of a priest in 1774 that the apocalypse was near due to celestial body alignment. That drove Eisenga to build it. The priest caused a turmoil and Eise was able to put that to rest.
