On the @pret @veggiepret website, you can actually follow a few of their recipes and this one was just so easy and simple to follow. Id definitely recommend it! I actually swapped the ground almonds for ground hazelnuts though and it gave it a nutella kinda flavour. I also swapped the almond butter for peanut butter because almond butter is the most expensive thing EVER and it still tasted lavly👌😍. This is definitely going on my list to bake again! As Samidoun Palestinian Prisoners Solidarity Network we stand full solidarity with Dr. Issam Hijjawi Bassalat and the Irish Republican prisoners, who have started a hunger strike on 16 September as protest against the isolation of Dr. Hijjawi Bassalat by the prison authorities. Dr. Hijjawi Bassalat, who is a prominent Palestinian community leader in Scotland, was arrested together with nine Irish republicans by the British MI5, the Irish Gardaí, Police Scotland, London’s Metropolitan Police, and over 500 officers of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) in the so-called “Operation Arbacia.” We demand the freedom of all political prisoners in Palestine and Ireland, and call upon their supporters to organize solidarity actions. Dr. Issam Hijjawi Bassalat, who is 62 years old, started his hunger strike on 16 September, as he was again forced into isolation in the filthy and unsafe Foyle House, a wing of Maghaberry prison in the north of Ireland. Irish Republican prisoners immediately engaged in a solidarity hunger strike to support Issam. Earlier that day, Issam’s bail was denied by the magistrate court. He will now proceed to the high court in order to await his trial in freedom. Dr. Issam Hijjawi Bassalat has multiple health conditions and has undergone an MRI scan this week. It is clear that for any person, let alone those who have health conditions, Foyle House is an unsafe prison. 🤍PARIS-BREST MINI BALLS🤍 My fave desserts are from France, I am obsessed with them. There’s a bakery here that make this delicious pastries, and I decided to make a homemade easier version. WARNING: they are super easy to make and addictive so be careful. Note: recipe for 6 balls Deets of the dough: - 1 1/2 of flour (gf or regular) - 1 cup of yogurt aprox( I recommend to add it little by little until you get the desired texture of the dough) - 2 tbsp of brown sugar - 1 tspn of baking soda - dash of vanilla extract - dash of cinnamon Deets Filling: - choco chips (or chocolate in pieces) - goat cheese (or vegan cream cheese or regular) Deets dip: - 2 tbsp of butter (ghee or coconut oil can sub) Directions: Combine the dry ingredients first, then add the yogurt little by little. Add oil into your hands to knead the dough. Make circles and flatten them, add chocolate and goat cheese. Once you fill them create the balls and dip them into butter ( ghee or coconut oil). Oats cooked in unsweetened soya milk, with 3 chopped dates. Then mine were topped with a large drizzle of tahini, dried rose petals, another chopped date and chopped pistachios. What did you cook for Labor Day? . . Earlier today I put down a pork butt that I seasoned with @sucklebuster Hog Waller! I used a mixture of @rockwoodcharcoal and @bbcharcoal pecan wood chunks. It went 8 hours unwrapped on the @biggreenegg, until it hit 204° then I let it rest for about 45 minutes before shredding. I made sure to spray it down every hour and a half with a blend of apple cider vinegar, apple juice, and @oldforester bourbon to make sure it stayed moist and full of flavor! . . . Made it to the final 4️⃣ before getting voted off the island 🌴 Brisket challenge had me working this massive piece of beef 🐄 for 14Hrs. This was hit with @traegergrills prime rib rub then coated in that @hooksspicerubs Midnight 🌚 in a 2/1 ratio respectively. Started it at 225F on super smoke 💨 for 8 hours until it hit 165F then wrapped it in butcher paper back in for 275F. Once it hit 195F removed the cut for Kansas City Burnt Ends and wrapped back in paper in the Traeger until it hit 202F. Toffee Apple Cookies 🍎 INGREDIENTS 1 cup self raising flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp cream of tartar 1 pinch salt 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon 125 g butter 3/4 cup brown sugar 1 free range egg 3/4 cup freeze dried apple powder 1 tbsp extra brown sugar 1 tbsp extra freeze dried apple powder (get it here http://bit.ly/applepowder ) METHOD Preheat oven to 180. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar salt and cinnamon and set aside. In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until creamy. Add the egg and the apple powder to the butter mixture and continue to beat. Gradually add the flour mixture while continuing to beat on low until all combined. In a shallow dish mix together the extra sugar and apple powder. Roll tablespoons of the mixture into a ball and then roll it in the apple and sugar mix then set on a lined baking tray and bake for 10 minutes or until golden. Using food as a reward. TBT to New York 🗽with my friend @tabbiperkins (HB girl! 😘). We spent most of the trip eating 🍽, and I wasn’t sad about it 😏. I’ve often hear people say that you “shouldn’t use food as a reward” 🏆 or that you should focus your social events around something “other than food”. 🎂 Here’s the thing... There is NOTHING wrong with using food as a “reward” or to celebrate something 🎉. Should you rely on food as your sole coping mechanism? No 🙅🏼♀️, we need to have a variety of coping mechanisms and it can become a problem if you use food as your emotional crutch, BUT it’s completely normal and OKAY to celebrate seeing old friends over dinner 🍴 or to treat yourself to some ice cream 🍦when you break up with your boyfriend 💔. Make sure to do other things as well to comfort yourself, celebrate, etc. (hike with friends ⛰, get a message, buy some new shoes 👠...whatever) but don’t feel guilty for using food as PART of your emotional life. There’s a REASON we have birthday CAKE 🍰 and Thanksgiving dinner 🦃. Food brings us together, it brings us comfort, it makes us smile 😊 and it should! You should never feel guilty for letting your food make you happy and be a part of your social and emotional life. 🔥 ‘Smoker’ comparison 🔥 This might cause some controversy but it’s worth a post. Smoked Beef Cheeks 🐮 The left was cooked on my @traegergrills.uk ironwood 885 The right was cooked on my @southern.smokersuk offset First thing you notice is the smoke penetration from the offset. It sets deep and even though the traeger ran at the same temperature it has nowhere near the same flavour or colour. The cheeks cooked on the traeger came out a lot drier - I find a lot of the things I cook in there are this way compared to the offset. I set up a bowl of water in both and spritz to build bark but always draws moisture out (you would barely notice it unless you do a comparison like this) You can’t really taste the smoke (nothing compared to the combustion of oak logs) on the traeger, the pellets are too mild for my liking , I like the taste of smoke and once you’ve eaten from an offset you can’t beat it. The pellet grill is missing a huge element of combustion and just adds a waft of smoke to the food cooked inside it. Traeger you have made a very useful pellet grill, it serves a purpose. But it takes the fun out of cooking. I need more action when I cook, maybe that’s the chef in me...I enjoy the flames and the primal aspect of cooking. I’m not a tech , i don’t want to look at a screen to tell me how it’s going. No matter what the future holds for cooking on grills / smokers you will never take away the quality of the finished product when you do it by hand. It just can’t be beaten. I’ve cut this text massively short but there is no comparison. HAPPY WENSEDAY!!🎉🎈Today is my golden birthday and I had a blast!! I woke up went for a nice 6 mile run then ate a gorgeous bowl of oats!! After that me and my mom went grocery shopping.....I don’t care what people say grocery shopping is the best!!! I got so many sweet potatoes 🍠 and lost of other fun things. We went out to lunch at an AMAZING vegan cafe. Some family came over and that’s were these ice cream sandwiches come in!! I’ve never been a huge fan of cake so I decided this year to make these!! A quality pork shoulder from my local butchers Tender Cuts. The skin would have been removed, who likes rubbery pork skin❓ fat trimmed to 5mm and rubbed with Angus and Oink Sweet Bones & Butt rub 😋 cooked slowly on my baby Weber Smokey Mountain (37cm/14inch) WSM, using my Smartfire pit controller to keep my pit at 225°f exactly for the duration of my smoke. Applewood chunks to complement the pork. Taken to at least 203°f internal temperature, before resting 1 hr min, then pulling delicious. . .
