Transformation Tuesday: Yesterday I posted some deep shit. Today I go a little deeper. The young man on the left was closed, afraid and full of anger and hate for the world. He acted like he was confident, pretended that he was tough and thought he knew everything. Little did most people know, I was absolutely terrified. ⠀ My biggest challenge was not obesity, or sickness of the body, it was of the mind. I was on antipsychotic medication for anxiety and depression and could not stop my crazy mind from making me think everyone and everything was against me. I was closed to love from others, and more importantly love from myself. ⠀ The picture on the right is what fitness did for me. When I talk about knowing how hard it is to love on yourself, take care of yourself, and honour yourself, I am speaking from experience. I am speaking from my heart. I know because I have been there. ⠀ Fitness turned me into the hero of my own life’s journey. It made me the superhero of my state. It got me off drugs, both prescribed and illicit, and taught me how to take charge of my mind and connect in deeper with my body. ⠀ We all have our own challenges, that take numerous shapes and forms. And for the most part, their infections live in our inability to truly love ourselves and believe that we are worthy of FEELING great. ⠀ My clients are not results on a statistics board. They are f*cking superheroes of their own mental, physical and spiritual health. ⠀ The physical results are great, but TRUE transformation comes from moving from fear and self deprecation to a place of strength and self-love. ⠀ Here are a few steps to get started right away: ⠀ 1. He carefully scribbled on the paper. 2:20 am, he quickly glanced at the clock and started writing before even allowing a second to reshape the reality, because even a second more than the actual time would make a significant contribution to the details of that incident that he carefully captured and wanted to scribble on a piece of paper. In the light of his dark shadows, he kept writing, the thunderstorm encouraged him to write even more about the things he was going through. He kept drowning in the thoughts of his survival, he kept writing about how it was ridiculed, criticized but did not write about the people who were doing it, he couldnt write about the people he knew closely. He was a part of a dysfunctional society that kept damaging the soul and protected the heart just to turn it cold. So low key I’ve been working super hard in the gym and more importantly on my diet for the last 3 months. I’ve been sending @emmybulksgym progress photos every 3 weeks but have refrained from sharing anything publicly. 3 months seems like a good point to share. So here’s front and back profile week 0- week 12. Huge thanks to Emmy for providing unreal amounts of nutritional advice as well as healthy meal prep food, it’s been a game changer. Massive props to @fla_hayes also, who’s workout program has completely changed my perspective of what’s important in the gym. More than strength changes I just feel like a miles healthier human due to his advice! Final thanks to Brian from the trainer team at @wwepc and Brett from Physio Boutique for their help and advice with physiotherapy on my pec during this whole process. Yeah, don’t get too excited. This is me but also not me. That’s what I used to be like some time ago. Then some issues happened, I’ve lost the body I was so proud of and now, luckily, I’m on my way to get it back. Yesterday was my 49th Birthday and was going to post this picture then but I chickened out , but decided to feel the fear and do it anyway, I’ve learned to do that which makes you most uncomfortable is the nest way to push yourself. The pic on the left was the beginning on Feb2020 and right pic was taken on my birthday 15th July. The other factor in me choosing to post this pic today is that I was inspired to do so my seeing someone else’s transformation. This has not just been a physical one but also a mental transformation too. My unexplainable ill health had been caused by a build up of work stress and without realising it . I had conversations with friends that were going through extremely though times last year ( @markisntabarber & @therealbillyboy ) I started to piece together my own issues once a had an understanding of this through a few counselling sessions late last year. Then I started to work on my health starting with diet I went vegetarian last Oct2019 and very quickly lost around 7lbs /3.5kg but it wasn’t until then end of Jan this year when I decided to take things more seriously, I stopped drinking, started running 5k 3 times a week and began looking more closely at what I was eating . I was then introduced to Herbalife products ( yes that’s right I’m that guy, this is not an advert just me hoping to inspire ) then #LOCKDOWN #COVID19 happed and I had nothing to do but run. Running then became a problem due to massive inflammation to my knees so I took up bike riding and then after reading “Finding Ultra” by @richroll I started to play around with my diet and slowly went more plant base , dairy and gluten free the inflammation in my knee disappeared the weight flew off, my runs and bike rides become longer and easier I had more energy. I then read “Can’t Hurt me “ by @davidgoggins and my mindset changed again . Fast forward to today I’m stronger ,leaner,faster healthier my mind is strong . I hope if you managed to read this to the end that you take some inspiration from it as I have from others . Today marks the 5-year anniversary of me grenade-ing my smile. The surgeons and dentists I’ve seen have told me my case has been one of, if not THE most difficult they’ve experienced, trying to get a functional smile that still looks decent. That being said, I’m incredibly grateful for the effort from everyone involved on the path to my new smile. We’re still gonna tweak it a little to dial in the aesthetics, but the function of the implants is fantastic, which was the main priority. It’s been quite a long time looking at myself in the mirror every night without permanent teeth and it feel so great to be on the backside of that. There are still moments I replay the crash in my mind and try to change it. But this all has definitely taught me a great deal about self-image and acceptance, and in an odd way, I’m grateful for the experience. My third bit of gratitude in this post goes out to all of my friends and family that we’re so supportive every step of the way. And especially my wife (@katie.bell25) who’s love and strength never wavered, even in the moments I was feeling most down. Compartment syndrome is a medical emergency and it needs to be recognized early. A similar situation may occur when an IO cannula is deployed in the wrong position or dislodged during the treatment. That is why you would want to make sure your IO device is in place. There are several ways to verify IO placement: 1. Check for aspiration of bone marrow 2. Flush and watch for swelling 3. Are the medications injected via the IO taking effect on the patient? 4. If available, bedside doppler may be effective in correct position confirmation. Early signs of compartment syndrome - Severe pain, swelling and redness of the affected limb Compartment syndrome is a rare complication associated with IO access. It may occur when the cannula is dislodged from the bone or over penetrated it. Therefore, correct location must be verified by aspiration of bone marrow, saline flush and observation of extravasation signs. In the image above is the result of a fasciotomy performed on a patient who had arrived to a field hospital with compartment syndrome, after being trapped under wreckage of an earthquake and rescued. - Motorcycle rider doing a wheelie 70mph hit a guard rail that’s his thigh he didn’t make it
- I fought the inkjet and I lost
- One nasty dog bite and 16 stitches later. An 18 yo girl was attacked by a 110 pound dog, no internal damage, just one scar. Bite resulted in a sliced lip in half from corner all the way down to the lateral angle of mandible. Last picture is 2 months after the incident.
