Here are some conditioning ideas—ENJOY! .. Kettlebell Swings The Russian influence in strength training goes far beyond periodization and celebratory vodka after a great workout! One of the greatest influences is kettlebell training. From a strength-training standpoint, it is tough to beat the swing for working the posterior chain and hip extension. From a learning standpoint—the learning curve is virtually nonexistent. For the conditioning workout, do a Tabata protocol by doing eight sets of kettlebell swings, accomplishing as many reps as possible in 20 seconds, resting 10 seconds and repeating this protocol for eight times, total. As painful as this, remember you can do anything for four minutes and the results are worth it. Farmer’s Walk Besides being an awesome grip workout, the farmer’s walk hammers the posterior chain and builds traps that make Silver Back’s envious. Let’s not forget about the core stability being worked and the functionality of picking something up heavy and hauling ass. No farmer’s walk implements—no problem! You can use dumbbells or short barbells. For the conditioning workout, farmer’s walk 100 feet as fast possible, rest 45 seconds and repeat the sequence until eight sets have been completed or ten minutes passes—whatever comes first. If your grip gives out, throw on straps and keep on trucking! Heavy Bag Training Hitting the heavy bag is not traditionally thought of as strength training. However, if you are repeatedly hitting a heavy bag with all the force you can muster, it is a form of strength training. Instead of pacing and throwing punches at fifty percent, we are going to go all out! Throw as many punches (and kicks if you know how) in 20 seconds as possible. No arm punches either, getting your entire body behind each blow. While this may not be the way to train for a USA Boxing sanctioned points match, it will have you ready to defend yourself when shit hits the fan in a West By God Virginia, coal miner retirement party. So hit the heavy bag as hard as possible for 20 seconds and then rest 20 seconds for 10 total rounds. This will be the toughest six minutes of your life .. Recent flick from a weekend escape to Palm Springs. In efforts to seek some warmth and sunshine in this winter weather to help my #psoriasis a few friends and i did a weekend trip to Palm Springs to only be met by grey clouds. Classic ! • • Despite the weather not planning out it was still great to relax and rest. This photo taken by my talented friend @jennellefong caught me off guard when she shared it with me last night. It was one of those moments that i looked and thought ‘shit look at my skin!’ Sometimes i feel we can get so used to the everyday and it’s not until you view it in a picture that you have an aha moment. My skin definitely looks more flared here than usual as it was taken mid swimming in salt/chlorine water but needless to say it is definitely in an angry phase and i need to get my shit together to fix it ! • • Sharing Incase anyone else needs a reminder and a friendly kick up the ass to rest, eat well, stay away from bad habits and work on a healing journey. Praise report! For those of you who have been following along and praying for Ryan, who had been in the hospital since April I have the best praise report to share with you, Ryan was able to finally leave the hospital last week!!!!! Thank you Lord! As you know, Ryans dearest mama Lynn @llwilson92 passed away while he was in the hospital but we have continued praying for Ryan and will continue praying for his complete recovery. He isnt able to walk yet because of all those months being so sick and being hospitalized, but we know that in time and with good therapy we are trusting for his complete recovery. Thank you for having prayed for him all these months, and thank you for continuing to lift him up. Since Ryan didnt know that his mother had passed, and also his beloved dog Murphy, please pray for his heart as he deals with all the traumas and sadness hes had to face. . . Ｍｅｎｔａｌ . Ｈｅａｌｔｈ . It doesnt always look like theyre sad. It doesnt always look like theyre hurting. Its not always dark rooms and crying. Sometimes its appearing laughing with friends, being silly with loved ones and working hard. It can be over exercising or partying too hard. It can be propelling yourself forward and saving face. It may be that theyre irritable or they just look like theyre happy. Check in with your positive friends, the ones you know that struggle or just the ones you love the most. But far more importantly check in with yourself. I say in my classes often that you cant pour from an empty cup and it is so true. Make sure that youre taking time for yourself. The girl in this photo was not in a great place. Although recently it feels like weve almost met again, taking the time to reflect on the process has been instrumental. It is hard to talk about. It is hard to feel sometimes and sometimes its simply a day to day process but were doing it! It comes in waves and thats ok. One of the biggest things Ive learnt is that when you are feeling unstoppable, that is the time to prepare for the moments where its all a little much. Respect your feelings and dont try to do it all BUT have a process or a routine to follow so that you are still looking after yourself and able to do the basics - Thanks therapy! Hi friends. Over the last 3 weeks Beck and I drove a camper van to Michigan and back. It was amazing and hot as hell. In the desert water was on my mind constantly. Where to drink, where to bathe, where to swim. Then we got to Michigan, where I grew up, a peninsula in the middle of our country, surrounded by fresh water, swam for a week straight and drank fresh Michigan tap water that I’ve always had access to (it’s delicious). For my birthday today I’m reflecting on how much I have to be grateful for, and how much I have to give back. All Michiganders (YES WE CALL OURSELVES THAT) still do not have equitable access to affordable clean drinking water. As many of you know, in 2014, the Detroit Water and Sewage Department instituted a massive water shut off campaign against residents with unpaid water bills. Over 100,00 Detroit homes have lost access to water services. Despite the moratoriums on water shutoffs during Covid, lack of water access still presents additional risks for thousands of people. Some friends and orgs in Detroit ( @detroitjusticecenter via @rsllee and others not on insta) turned my attention to We The People of Detroit @wethepeopledetroit . WPD are water warriors who have been fighting for water as a human right for many years and are doing essential work right now. The WPD research collective uses data to visually show the socio-economic consequences of austerity policies in Detroit, which have worked toward the dismantling of Black and Brown Detroit neighborhoods. WPD manages an emergency water hotline, supervises Water Stations, and delivers water to households in need of water relief and so much more. Link in bio to read more about their work. Stavros beach is located at the northernmost edge of Cape Akrotiri about 20 kms northeast of Chania. Its small mountain separating Stavros harbor from the west beach, is famous since the 60’s as, its specific shape appeared background of final “Sirtaki dance on the beach” in Zorba the Greek movie. That time, Stavros was a very small fishing village. Nowadays, village expanded quite a lot and tourists still come for Zorba’s icone and most of them spend some time on the two main beaches of Stavros. Its mainly frequented beach is situated close to the small harbor, on the east side of the village. That’s surely because of the pictural view of the mountain on the viewing angle of Cakoyannis camera, catching the cretan spirit of Zorba “I felt once more how simple and frugal a thing is happiness: a glass of wine, a roast chestnut, a wretched little brazier, the sound of the sea. Attention fellow hot spring soakers. We all need to be guardians of hot springs. Please make a conscientious effort to do your best (each in your own way) to keep the hot springs clean and safe. I personally take care of the hot springs along the Kern River. I volunteer to clean and scrub the tubs and pick up trash and clear trails. I have even scrubbed graffiti off hot spring rocks. My greatest joy of being a guardian of hot springs is creating soaking tubs for future generations.
