HOW ABOUT A PROCESS POST 🦺 the artwork for CAST was months of collaboration with my mum @ewaharabasz, sister @martyna_alexander and her bf Danny @daniel.ribar . After many different configurations there are a total of 4 different covers in the end for the singles and LP. I wanted something all hand-created without graphics, fonts, and the usual effects you see flying around. I used copper for the base to work around and treated it to create the patina, then also found clear Plexi with the same dimensions and eventually stacked them on top of each other 🧱 for the final cover that you see on the album. I was a huge fan of my mum’s work years ago where she gauzed up smooth stones and canvas and asked her if she could do that for the Plexi pieces. Then came the copper which I shipped to Detroit to Danny & Martyna’s studio to photograph and put them in settings which was a fun facetime collab for weeks. Danny beautifully shot each one(notice the shadow being casted, get it CAST CASTED 🙃) he is probably the most pro photographer in Detroit hands down while Martyna organically organized raw materials and constructed layouts freestyle. She tirelessly hand-made settings that I wanted to carve-out and save at the end! Ill keep sharing more I just wanted to give credit where credit is do, Cast was all about the people around you for any project you take on and I have even more people to thank and share their participation. To close out #PrideMonth, we’re honoring Black Civil Rights organizers who began a fight that is continued today. #BlackLivesMatter #BlackTransLivesMatter – Ernestine Eckstein, a self-described “social prophet,” was a leader of the homophile movement– a chronological predecessor to the Gay Liberation movement of the 1970’s– that focused especially on creating safe, homosocial environments and encouraging widespread acceptance of homosexuality. Ernestine was a key player in the Daughters of Bilitis, which is thought of as the first lesbian civil and political rights organization in the United States. Ernestine was known for applying her experience in the Civil Rights Movement to the homophile movement, embracing a more holistic approach to identity than many others around her. – Barbara Jordan– an American lawyer, educator, and politician– served as one of the first Southern Black congresswoman, in office from 1973 through 1979. An accomplished orator, Barbara is often remembered for her opening statement in the Nixon impeachment trials– considered one of the best speeches in American 20th century history for Barbara’s nuanced rhetoric, morals, and wisdom. Throughout her life, Barbara kept her personal life entirely private; her relationship with Nancy Earl was only publicly acknowledged in Barbara’s obituary, though Nancy was her steadfast companion of over twenty years until Barbara’s life was cut tragically short by illness. – Bayard Rustin– a leader in advocating for civil rights, socialism, nonviolence, and gay rights– was a key organizer for both the Freedom Rides and the March on Washington. Rustin’s long-time advisee and political mentee Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. knew of Bayard’s sexuality, but Bayard faced much public criticism, as homosexuality was still widely criminalized throughout the United States. Just a little post to put the current situation in some perspective... On September 7, 1940, Germanys air force - the Luftwaffe - launched ‘The Blitz’. At first, the bombings happened during the day, but then went on to become nightly events. The bombing campaign against Britain lasted eight months and killed 43,000 civilians. British cities were bombed hard – London was subjected to some 76 consecutive nights of attacks. More than two million homes were destroyed, 60 percent of them in London. For the past 42 years, Mik Critchlow has photographed the town, people and surrounding areas of Ashington, the town in which he was born, educated and still lives. Ashington is a small coastal town north of Newcastle Upon Tyne and, before the nationalisation of the coal mining industry in the 1940s, was the home and headquarters of the Ashington Coal Company which paternally controlled the work, housing, leisure, education and social behaviour of its workforce. The town as a community owes its very existence to coal mining and although the extraction of coal was the major dominant factor in their lives, miners and their families shared many interests – there was always a strong tradition of community life. Coal is in the family blood, it has been a major part of our family life for at least four generations but Mik escaped, leaving school in 1970 aged 15 to work in the merchant navy. After several years he returned home, picked up a camera and began to photograph the people and street life of Ashington. He is still taking photographs. - @bluecoatpress on Instagram

En su edición de este día la revista Bohemia publicó el artículo “Septembrismo”, firmado por Antonio Guiteras. Allí exponía el autor las directrices de su ideología revolucionaria y analizaba los hechos acaecidos en el país durante los meses precedentes, enjuiciando el perjuicio ocasionado por las presiones de Batista y del embajador norteamericano Jefferson Caffery. Planteaba Guiteras que “un movimiento que no fuese anti imperialista en Cuba no era una revolución. Se servía al imperialismo yanqui o se servía al pueblo, pues sus intereses eran incompatibles”. Las palabras finales del artículo expresaban: “espero confiado el momento oportuno para nuestra liberación absoluta, que es la que responde al clamor de las masas que todo lo sufren, que todo lo padecen”. On this day in 1814, U.S. soldiers from the USS Carolina attacked the pirate base of the infamous Jean Laffite, at Barataria, Louisiana. The pirates were able to flee, but lost six fine schooners and their plundered goods. Throughout the year, works from new local talent will be showcased on the billboard above the restaurant. — — George Longs choreographed depictions of individuals expressing the emotive and physical transformation of time and location, are manifested in work ranging from mixed media drawings to animation. Long makes original drawings of figures in movement then manipulates the original drawings, through tracing, stamping, copying and transferring them repeatedly onto the paper. The final figures fade and shift, repeat, overlap, separate and blend into each other with wispy, broken and smudged lines.
