I used to spend a lot of time with my uncle who was 56 years older than me. He talked about the Island of Lewis in the late 40’s and 50’s and how his first job on leaving school was ploughing fields by hand with a horse. I always wished Id been there to see that old life, and ‘Old Soul’ came out of that feeling of being born in the wrong time. 💀Forensic Friday💀 Vintage Forensics! This is a case of a 20 year old who died by suicide. He hung himself in a storeroom and was found 45 days later in this condition. In the photo to the left, you can see that the torso and lower extremities completely separated during decomposition. The head and upper limbs are suspended together with the jacket still on the original position of the body. The soft tissue on the face is almost completely decomposed exposing the skull. The lower portion of the body is clothed with trousers and shoes. The ribs are exposed and the organs are also decomposed. Look at the photo to the right. Note that the lower abdomen and lower extremities are better preserved than the chest. This is because the chest was exposed to the air and the legs are covered with clothing. I hope that time is soon. Until then... feels like a lifetime ago we were promoting Swimmer and preparing for months on the road. I’ve always understood on some level that I could wake up one day without my health, my partner, my career, my home, my material possessions. But it took a disaster on this scale to really drive the point home: nothing is guaranteed. Every day is a gift. I’ve always had a complex relationship with touring. I get sick a lot, my anxiety tends to go off the charts—but having it taken away from me (at least for now) was something i never imagined or prepared myself for. I wish so badly to be on the road right now, living in a van out of a suitcase, peeing in truck stops, playing music to a room full of open-hearted strangers. Instead, I wake each day to another story from a friend who has been laid off, or conversely, someone who is being worked to the brink of what they can endure. I can’t grasp the magnitude of the pandemic’s effect on each of your daily lives, or what challenges you face. Maggot Heart ”MERCY MACHINE” is out now! ”Its July 10 and Mercy Machine is set loose! This record took form after we finally landed at home in the end of 2019 after many intense and incredible tours. I knew this album was gonna be red, partially white, and I wanted it to take place in truth and in flesh. A rock n roll manifestation! With teeth! The body as a machine, and in turn our bodies as parts of a bigger machinery, became the focal point. The eternal topics of sex and death and defiance. In good company of so many great albums before this one. Sex Breath came first, Gutter Feeling last. In another world/time, it seems now... Mercy Machine was made together with an absolute dream team. Its no joke when I say that I have the best rhythm section in underground rock beside me, and you will hear their magic on this album; Uno Bruniusson on drums and Olivia Airey on bass. The invaluable Gottfrid Åhman co-wrote a couple of the songs, and helped pre-produce several more, and also contributed with guitars. We recorded once again in the Stockholm sub-space of Studio Cobra, with Martin Konie Ehrencrona, who also mixed (and matched and morphed, and coaxed some of those solos out of me, and played the saxophone). Elmer Hallsby kindly assisted. Alex Nagle mastered over in Philly. Kristian Valbo whipped out this insane (!!) cover artwork with the skill and feel that only he has. Samu Salovaara layouted. Lindemann made me look cool in every photo. Initiative Musik helped fund this whole project, which is incredible in itself. And Ricky started Rapid Eye Records with me, so I can keep on going independently, and release more inspired and inspiring music in the future, also by other artists. The reason why we need our subjects to not move from their positions once the shot is framed and the lights are set is because once the plate is sensitized it is a race against time to get it exposed before the plate dries out. Synchronised Swimming (ONGOING PROJECT) This was taken just before lockdown was announced, we observed social distancing advice. This was shot at an alternative location as Henleaze Lake was closed in anticipation of lockdown This unique synchronised swimming group of 80 people, initially formed to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of Henleaze Lake. The age range is 11-76 and is for all genders. Friendships have developed and they have become a strong, supportive group for one another. I’ve LOVED working with the team and will hopefully continue working with them after the pandemic. Il 26 Settembre del 1973 si spegneva Anna #Magnani... Cara Anna, ricordo un pomeriggio del settembre 1943. C’è il sole, l’odore della campagna calda. Davanti a me vedo la stazione di Casarsa. È stranamente deserta. Deserto il piazzale, deserta la strada bianca e polverosa che va verso San Giovanni. Si sentono delle voci risuonare sui binari su cui è fermo un treno merci: sono voci di soldati tedeschi. Non so perché io sono lì: è certamente un caso o una pazzia. Ma questo ricordo galleggia solo e staccato da tutto il resto del tempo. Il treno merci di fronte alla stazione di Casarsa è pieno di militari: dentro i vagoni piombati essi stanno in piedi, gremiti, tanto da non poter muoversi. Si sentono i loro lamenti e le loro voci. Arrivano di corsa, non so da dove e da chi chiamati, due o tre carretti, coi cavalli guidati da donne e ragazze. Nei carretti ci sono cesti di frutta e del pane. Le donne allungano la roba da mangiare ai soldati attraverso i piccoli finestrini del treno, da cui sporgono disperate le mani. The closing image of 《The Journey to The West》 series, “English as a Second Language” exhibition last year. Taken from my favourite scenes in 《西遊記：Havoc in Heaven - Imprisonment》 The Monkey King (Sūn Wùkōng) throws a fit with the Jade Emperor in heaven as he is outraged to be given the role Protector of the Horses aka stable-boy. Buddha sits Monkey King down in Buddha’s palm and tries to talk sense into Monkey King. Buddha bets that the Monkey King cannot escape from Buddhas palm. Monkey King leaps and flies to the end of the world. Seeing nothing but five pillars, he believes he has reached the ends of Heaven. To prove his trail, he marks the pillars with a phrase declaring himself the “Great Sage, Equal to Heaven” and urinates on his signature. Monkey King leaps back to Buddhas palm. Finding his signature and smell of his urine, he is shocked to find that the five pillars are the fingers of the Buddhas. When the Monkey King tries to escape, the Buddha turns his hand into a mountain. Before the Monkey King can lift it off, the Buddha seals him there using a the mantra Om Mani Padme Hum in gold letters.
