I did the same compass pose last week (swipe right for comparison) but today felt more openness in my hamstring to extend the leg and more space in my side body to allow deeper twist. And this is exactly what I love about yoga - progress comes with right intention and purposeful effort. And the physical manifestation of that progress reinforces my belief that we all have the capacity to learn and grow beyond oddities and limitations. So Im truly grateful to the practice. Welcome to Fall! Happy Equinox. Equal day & night, light & dark. This photo is from nearly a year ago when I was just discovering the magic of #KatonahYoga @thelookingglassbasel 💗 Little did I know how much our world would change from then to now. Progress sometimes feels like one step forward, two steps back. We’ve all been dealt a few hard blows in the last couple seasons. Some more than others, showing how the equality of this seasonal mark is just cosmic and not (yet) fully reflected in the workings of our society nor in the individualist culture. Great Nature is so inspiring as she reminds us to never quit tuning our frequencies, though. I’ve found myself seriously turning away from personal use of this platform, apart from my business... I am turning in and it fits with the season. I’m concerned with the disturbing unfolding of many things in the social media sphere & beyond, so let me just write here now that I am definitely voting BIDEN/HARRIS 2020; it’s strategic and in alignment with my heart & core values. I hope you vote, too. For my mental sanity and to be more effective at my life purpose, I will be plugging some of my energy leaks and practicing what I preach—embodiment. 🌀Time to get offline (!!!) and into the current of life. “How do I do a full push-up on my feet?”-many, many, people. unfortunately getting to the point of a full proper push-up doesn’t happen overnight. And it won’t happen by continuously doing them on your knees or only dropped 1/3 of the way down. So what do you do? 1. Negatives- start in a solid plank position. Lower down as SLOW as you can. Keep your body in that plank position the entire time. When you get to the bottom you can use your knees to get back up. 2. Elevated- the higher the object the easier it is. Again, keep your solid plank position- straight line from the very top of your head all the way to your heels. Find an object where you struggle to reach your chest down to. As it gets “easier” take some height off (use something lower). If you can’t touch your chest to the object, use something higher. • knowing all of this info is great but if you don’t apply it and practice it then it won’t work• 🤷‍♀️ - @bethanywelch1 on Instagram

What about 30days splits challange? I do believe with practice and dedication, most healthy individuals can learn how to do the splits. For people who are more flexible, this could take weeks or months. For those who are less flexible, it could take months or even years. For the great majority of us the structure of joints and the length of ligaments are not an obstacle for doing splits however listen to your body and learn to know your limits. There is a difference between tension and compression! Make sure its not compression while practicing it! Line up poses; 1. Any hips opener or hips flexibility pose💫 2. Any backbend pose 3. Fun fact: crow pose was the first pose that got me into yoga. Swipe to see a video! 😊 Almost two years ago, I found a 30 days yoga challenge by Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. At that time I was looking for a way to calm my mind and body after work so I decided to give it a go. The classes were so great for beginners, all I did was just follow the instructions every single day. I didn’t actually expect anything out of it, I was happy that I could at least move my body in a calming way (I used to do a more high intense workout but didn’t really enjoy it). Anyway, on the very last day of that challenge, Adriene did a full yoga flow with no verbal instruction at all so I had to follow along visually. I thought I would terribly fail because I got used to follow her verbal instructions. Surprisingly, my body flowed so easily and I managed to do a crow pose which I thought was impossible for me at that time. And that’s how I fell in love with yoga. 💕 It makes my mind and body feel good! However, I never intentionally practice crow pose since then because I was focusing too much on getting into a headstand. The training taught me to go back to the foundation and I forgot how fun it is to learn a crow pose! Seeing a little improvement like this is enough for me to keep going. 😊 #yoga #yogaeverydamnday #crowpose - @nellyadynda on Instagram

Meet Misha. 🧘🏽‍♀️ Being brought up in an Indian household, yoga philosophy has always been close to my heart. As someone who never did dance, ballet or gymnastics, I was never ‘naturally flexible’ and felt a bit intimidated going to classes. I had a vigorous gym routine, focused on what my body was looking like instead of how I truly felt. My regime soon became excessive, I was exhausted and suffering from anxiety. I came to yoga by chance at my gym. I learnt how to slow down by focusing on my breath and started noticing the quality of my thoughts. I look back now and cannot imagine a life without this practice. I have learnt that all yoga asks of us is that we come as we are and celebrate ourselves for everything our bodies CAN do. Yoga has taught me that I am good enough, that we are all good enough exactly the way that we are. I believe we are all beautifully unique in our own ways and yoga has taught me to truly embrace that. You don’t need to wear expensive yoga clothes, be stick thin and bend like a pretzel! I believe the most important things to remember stepping on a Yoga mat is to keep an attitude of non-judgment and self-acceptance. One pose may be hard, the other may be easier - it’s different for everyone and a personal practice. We call it a journey because there’s no end goal We learn something new each time. Yoga helps to establish a loving, companionate relationship with the body. If you’re not sure where to start, take a friend to a beginners class and go together. Sometimes we need to do the very thing we are nervous about to grow. If you’ve been putting off trying yoga, the best time to start is now! It’s a practice of building a caring relationship with your mind and body. Your flexibility, measurements, race, weight or gender are of no importance. Plank Progressions. The plank is an excellent abdominal and core exercise. A strong core helps to stabilize, balance, and power the body during just about every other activity.  Beginner: Start in 4pt kneeling stance (fingers spread wide, wrists and soft elbows lined up underneath shoulders, knees parallel aligned under hips). Curl toes under and draw abs in, lift knees 2 inches above the ground. Hold for 3 seconds and then carefully lower for 3 seconds. Repeat. Intermediate: Start in 4pt kneeling stance. Reach left foot back, then reach right foot back into plank. Hold here if you can. Left knee comes back to start and the right follows. Start again beginning with the right foot out instead. Repeat while trying to increase the duration for the hold. Advanced: Hold plank position for 30 seconds. For an extra challenge, add in ankle articulation by rocking forward and backward on your toes. Common Mistakes: Arching Your Back - pull abs to spine Locking Elbows - soften elbows Sagging / Lifting Hips - one long line Tilting Head Up - eyes on the floor **modifications Elbow Plank: If you have wrist issues, start with the forearms down parallel and palms flat with the elbows lined up underneath the shoulders. Be mindful, this plank is actually more challenging because your weight has moved closer to ground. Wall or Sofa Plank: If you have issues being down on your knees for short periods of time, start with a wall plank and work your way to a sofa plank. The further you walk your feet away from the wall/sofa the more challenging it is on your core. Be mindful of the hips staying lifted or lowered here. The goal is a straight line from heel to crown. Welcome day 3 #aloboutrangeofmotion :) the pose is #wideleggedforwardfold ( #uphavisthakpmasana) Here I’m sharing 2 videos and 1 photo.( video is speed up xxxxx) The first one is few poses of how I stretch my hip area and how I doing middle split using wall. In here I looks like a just stretching but actually my legs are working a lot. Specially while on middle split practice I engage my leg muscles. How I engaged muscles? Make a yogi toe.😅 It May be sounds funny, but yogi toe is helpful to engage leg muscles. I think it is also possible when you pointing your toe but in my case this is working well. The second video is more about working on active way for leg strength and step of our today’s pose. For more modification, you can bent your knee or using blanket under the hips and making height. Why we asking using props in here is to avoid rounding spine. Do forwardbend with kind nice spine. Use many props if you need and find a good place you feel your entire body is open. Also for modification, do pose using wall like me( first video): recline pose is always keep our spine nice. 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣 𝗱𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝗴𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗢𝗡! ⠀ 🚨 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀𝗳𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵: you don’t have to look like that perfect model sitting next to you. You don’t have to wear the tight pants. You don’t have to know how to do each pose. Heck, you don’t even need to know how to do anything. It’s YOUR hour, YOUR escape, so DO YOU as I always say. ⠀ One of the reasons I love my local yoga studio @realhotyoganj is that there is no judgement during classes. If I want to do sit-ups while people are stretching or if I want to rock out to an awesome song that’s playing in the studio, I can do it. The culture here is incredibly welcoming and non-judgmental. Staying in the vein of “no judgement,” eat whatever the hell you want to before or after class: I’m only here to give suggestions that my clients and I have benefitted from. Hi. How you doing for this 2nd round of PSBB? Me, not so good. I don’t like feeling scared, on the edge and paranoid, my anxiety seems next level for me this time. But those are the feelings coming up. I do my best (good days and bad days) to make sure I am aware of these feeling and do the work to let them through. A lot of meditation, yoga, breathwork, talking to people, writing things out, riding a bike, taking warm baths, taking cold showers, break down and crying. Whatever I need to do to get stress up and out. I hope you all are doing things you need to deal with whatever you are feeling. This is not an easy time. Transitioning from plank to the next pose can be a tricky one especially for us beginners, but it’s also great to go back to basics even if we’ve been practising for so long. . Make sure before and during lowering down you: - Activate the core - Push the shoulders towards the ceiling so you’re not sinking down into them - Tilt the pelvis posteriorly - Squeeze the glutes . 1st video shows level 1 - (half plank to spinx) 2nd video shows level 2 - (half plank to cobra) 3rd video shows level 3 - (full plank to upward facing dog) . 4th video shows a combination of these - We can also mix and match some of these techniques to suit ourselves... . E.g I don’t always practise upward facing dog, as cobra sometimes feels more amazing for me🤗 but everyone’s different😊 . This go-round I’m experiencing the world as a white American female. Before this I was countless other things and after this I’ll again be other things. From this framework, I can watch wrinkles form without getting anxious or sad, see the ignorance of racism/homophobia/discrimination, and enjoy the ebb/flow of decades of a yoga practice. Everything is fleeting, including our personalities and opinion. La vida es movimiento. El cuerpo mejorará en aquello que hagamos o no hagamos con él; úsalo o piérdelo. Al igual que el agua potable debe fluir para mantenerse fresca y limpia porque cuando no lo hace, se estanca y deja de ser saludable; el cuerpo necesita movimiento para mantenerse sano y prosperar. Algo de movimiento es mejor que nada de movimiento. Aquí os dejo una secuencia muy corta (5 minutos) que podemos hacer a primera hora de la mañana para dar la bienvenida al día, y repetirla tantas veces como se desee y permita el tiempo. También podemos hacerla en cualquier momento que necesitemos un descanso de las actividades diarias, para soltar rigidez y despejar la mente. La práctica matutina, aunque sea corta, nos ayuda a comenzar el día centrados, llenos de energía y en calma. Calienta los músculos suavemente, liberando posible tensión y rigidez que se haya generado en la noche. Estimula el flujo sanguíneo y despierta los sistemas del cuerpo, promueve una mejor postura durante el día y nos ayuda a conectar con nosotros mismos desde primera hora, lo que nos despierta una actitud positiva y una agradable sensación de bienestar. I thought I needed something faster-paced to feel and to be strong. Soon I was totally burned out, both physically and emotionally. With a open mind, I came back to Pilates and Yoga. Yoga para ganar fuerza💪🏼⁣ ⁣ Les dejo una secuencia de 6 posturas de yoga para fortalecer nuestro cuerpo, especialmente el core y los brazos. El ejercicio con nuestro propio peso no solo fortalece los músculos sino también los huesos, mejora nuestra densidad ósea. ⁣ ⁣ ✨Realiza de 5 a 10 repeticiones de cada una. ⁣ ✨Siempre ve a tu ritmo. Evita todo lo que te haga daño. ⁣ ✨Respira por la nariz. ⁣ ⁣ 1. Quédate al menos 1 minuto en la plancha y luego 1 minuto en la plancha sobre los antebrazos. Puedes ayudarte con las rodillas en la esterilla. ⁣ 2. Desde el plano inclinado, lleva la rodilla derecha al brazo derecho y luego la izquierda. Puedes tocarlo o apuntarlo. Mantén el cuerpo activo. ⁣ 3. Mueve las caderas a los lados en la plancha sobre los antebrazos. ⁣ 4. Quédate sobre los antebrazos y camina hacia la cara, al delfín, y luego vuelve a la plancha. ⁣ 5. En Vasisthasana, coloca un pie por delante del otro para que sea más fácil, la mano derecha debajo de la cara, estira el brazo izquierdo hacia arriba, luego lleva la mano debajo del torso y vuelve a estirar. Repite las veces que quieras y luego hazlo del otro lado. ⁣ 6. Aún en Vasisthasana, estira la pierna izquierda y el brazo, luego trata de tocar el codo con la rodilla, repite las veces que quieras manteniendo el equilibrio y luego repite con el otro lado. ⁣ ⁣ Esta secuencia es básica en mi práctica. 📚 YOGA SCHOOL: Yin & Yang practices. . SAME BUT DIFFERENT! Yin yoga rename some of the Asana postures with the sole intention to prevent the student to go with the same mentally and intensity as if they were practicing yang. . ☯️ For instance, here we have Dragon pose for yin yoga, which requires long holds so it can access the deep hip flexor, groin and quadriceps. We dont have to pay attention to alignment (knee pass the ankle) in Yin yoga, because the ultimate goal is to play with different patterns of movement to find a subtle sensation, rather than deep intensity. That way we can learn to find the proper depth and remain still as we hold the pose to affect the tissues and the fascia. This pose primarily targets the liver, gall bladder, spleen, stomach, kidney and urinary bladder meridians. Yin practices focus primarily in introspection. . 🤸On the other hand we have Anjaneyasana pose for yang yoga, which requires the engagement and activation of our pelvic floor muscles, abdominals and legs. Physically strengthens the quadriceps and gluteus muscles, stretches the psoas and hips, and expands your chest, and lungs. Internally, it stimulates the internal organs at the abdomen. Yang practices primarily focus more on the external aspect of our being. . Give it a try and enjoy both and explore your mind, your body and let the intuition guide you. This wasn’t an easy challenge (none of mine really are ), but this one asked for a deeper tuning in, further awareness and intelligence, that made it extra ‘interesting’, I hope! As we talked in yesterday’s #backbend, this one locks the shoulders first, but leaves the legs free to fly and dangle, which means that, they need extra engagement to remain straight. Yesterday we anchored through the legs and started to arch from there. Today, we rest top of the shoulders & chest on the ground, then build the rest of the asana. Though the shape is similar if you flip them, gravity, the floor/wall make a big difference in how we FEEL it, what areas can surrender and which ones need to actively participate. For this one, use a wall in front if you have fear of going over (unlikely, but do it if it gives you peace of mind, just make sure you’re not too close and legs can fully extend). A folded mat/blanket under the shoulder line, or 2 blocks under each shoulder, will give you enough space to breathe and sink chest if you’re having trouble with that. For most of us, it’s harder to arch with hands under shoulders, like in the pic (easier to pop into Chin stand but, once up, if you can extend arms behind, you’ll be more comfortable). When you project legs, they’ll take the hips with them and the pressure in the backbend will go into throat & neck. Stay BACK, still on the shoulder line and upper ribs, sternum pushing down as well as arms. This is an amazing asana to keep exploring so, adjust it to your needs and thank you for the love, support and commitment put!!! Comment below if you finished and how it went!! Much love... Hanging is on my list of daily must do’s the last few months. It’s here to stay. Twice a day if possible. When I first started, my grip strength was much worse. I’m up to about a minute most days. The movement and space I get in my spine and ribs is phenomenal! It took a couple months for my spine to move at all as I slowly decompressed. I have an inversion table but feel much more benefit from hanging from my hands. Adding deep breaths really expand the core canister and stretch the rib cage and diaphragm.
