Want to know one of the first lessons that I was taught in business that completely changed the game for me? When your WHY is strong enough, your HOW doesn’t matter... it will reveal itself. See, when I was growing my business in the first year I kept getting wrapped up in the how. How was I going to nail down marketing? How was I going to grow my social media following? How was I going to be confident on sales calls? How was I going to have multiple revenue streams? How was I going to leave my job? How was I going to make six figures in the first year? How was I going to hit half a million? BAHHHH THE HOW STOPPED ME IN MY TRACKS. Until I remembered that the HOW wasn’t where the answers lied. The HOW wasn’t going to get shit done. The how wasn’t going to empower me or give me the confidence. The WHY was: Where the answers were What was going to propel me Where my love and confidence were at. MY WHYs were to help people, to teach, to lead... because I couldn’t stand people living in struggle. MY WHYs were complete freedom, abundance, working from anywhere, no longer fearing money. The second the fear or overwhelm or doubt kicked in... the why got stronger than ever before. And the why has guided me right here. Waking up in our beautiful new home, house pending sale, working from the lake, impacting so many... and so much more. What’s your why? Are you letting it guide you or getting tangled up in the how? After all, we are shaped by what we consume. 💫 This is natural and inevitable, and a good thing. However, it can become something divisive unless you both are discussing whats shaping your beliefs. Something Audrey and I have been doing at the end of every day, usually over dinner or once the kids go to bed is we ask each other this simple question: 👇🏼 What is something youve been thinking about today that I dont know about? In todays world, this has been extraordinarily useful in helping us to stay connected (as one body Mark 10:8) and actually grow in unity in a similar direction, instead of opposing directions. It has also allowed us to take what we consume and crosscheck it not only with each other but with scripture. ✅ The way of Jesus is very often a third road. The road less traveled as its often referenced. God is sooo good, y’all! In the last month and a half I left my job as the Assistant Director of the LU Marching Band (after an insane roller coaster ride with HR in the midst of the virus). It was heart breaking and also freeing all at the same time. Anyone that knows me would tell you that I love the band and I love those students,but that my heart is in growing my wedding photography business. I love what I do as a photographer and I love the ways that the Lord has affirmed that calling he has placed on my life. I know that I made the right decision to leave the band when I did, but it didn’t make it any easier. What did make it easier though is my awesome freaking family. I have the greatest family in the whole world. I was choking back tears while walking out of the School of Music for the last time, so naturally I called my mom. I stepped out of the building only to find her, my dad, my siblings, and the dog all sitting outside the building, ready to greet me with flowers and hugs (for the first time in MONTHS). There was no choking back tears once I saw them sitting there. I was pretty weepy. From leaving one job, to pursuing my dream job the NEXT DAY, I was off to North Carolina for a wedding (and let me tell you it was STUNNING). A week later, I picked up @kaylee.dimock from the airport in New Jersey, and we drove up to New York to spend two whole weeks in the Adirondacks, living our best lives out on the water. We skied (almost) every day, multiple times. We hiked. We (almost) encountered a bear. We gave each other henna tattoos. We took some gorgeous pictures, and some fun ones. And best of all, we talked about Jesus and grew together. Our little cousin retreat was exactly what I needed to decompress. I think I came back to VA from New York for only about 4 days, only to turn around and head to Cleveland to help @abigail_grace23 and Stephen move. It was the greatest thing getting to see such a great group of friends rally together, come from all parts of the country, to help this sweet couple move across Cleveland and I wouldn’t have missed those memories for anything. A few weeks ago I swallowed my pride and finally shared our gofundme for the first time. We haven’t had a second car in a long time, and I knew that we’d need one now traveling back and forth to Memphis. We were going to buy a used car, anything really to just get us through. And do you know that we had not one, not two, but THREE people who offered to just give us a car!!! I wasn’t expecting that at all! Today I met my dear friend at the dmv, the papers are signed we have a second car! When we go back to Memphis in a little over a week only one adult is allowed on campus. So Jeff will keep the van home with the kids, and I’ll take this one. All I keep thinking is that God’s always provides! A free car no strings attached!? I feel so undeserving. And yet this is the way God loves us so freely no strings attached. There’s nothing we can or can’t do to earn His love. I understand that now more than ever, and I hope you do too. This year has been one crazy year. We’ve seen so much bad and hate. Headlines have been so dark and heavy. But I’ve also seen so much good and love. The light always shines the brightest in the darkness’s. One day I’ll look back and tell my kids that even though churches closed down for a while and there was so much hate —I saw and felt the church and love far beyond any building. I’ll tell them the church showed up through a community of people. I’ll tell them that though the headlines were daunting I held tight to my own headlines with every beat of my heart. I’ll tell them this one life we have is our very own breathing series of headlines. And although we can’t always choose the story we can trust the Author. We can keep showing up, and loving those around us with all we’ve got. Hi all, been a while! And I can’t promise I’ll be back for long. But I did want to say thank you for all of the birthday love I have received today. It means so much. And I am finding myself feeling a little more aware, and in turn appreciative of it this year. And boy what a year it has been. A monumentally, and at times, catastrophically trying year. For me, for us all. And while my hardships are not unique (although we always think they are), I can’t help but look inward today and file through all the feelings that feel so innately specific to me but I know are shared. Feelings and moments and memories and a catalogue of cancelled plans and dreams deferred. Lessons I wish I didn’t have to live through to learn but am grateful I learned nonetheless. Dressed now, haphazardly, in a new found armor made of silver-linings that took their sweet damn time turning silver. We have collectively learned, increasingly, how little control we have over the things we thought we’d mastered. But through that we have also learned what it is that keeps us from sinking. This time spent alone bringing us closer to ourselves, while we are forced apart. Community through communal suffering. But it has been hard, and it isn’t over. And it’s scary and lonely and powerfully sad. So I just wanted to say thank you for the many continued connections that have served as tiny, imperfect life-lines through this all; today and everyday. This life is so fragile and so are we, and this world is so flawed, and so are we, but this life and this world is also so special, and so are we. SCHEDULING DURING A PANDEMIC 📆 first of all, it’s been almost a week (?!) since i finally met the love of my life @stayingmindfull at this cute little spot @thehivesm . still on an internet friend high not gonna lie. we’re gonna do some biggg things!!! i wanted to bring up something today that’s helped me a lot during my healing journey, and that’s planning out the day. two disclaimers, though, so you can put your inner perfectionist back in its place—no, i don’t schedule things out every day like clockwork, and yes, when i do structure my life, i end up drastically altering what i do 99% of the time. then why is it that i schedule in a walk at 8am but sometimes crawl out of bed at noon with an insurmountable to-do list? just months ago, i felt strongly about having a morning routine & practicing the same habits every day without fail. how did i get from point a to b? i am learning to listen to my body and embrace variation while reminding myself of my intentions and keeping everything i need to do in one place (it’s a good buffer when it comes to the brain fog that accompanies fatigue). yeah, sometimes everything gets derailed until 4pm, but hey, if i meditated on just monday and wednesday AND went to the beach at 7pm even though i blocked out a slot for self-care at 11am, that’s still SO MUCH PROGRESS and it’s moving me forward! i now shuffle my schedule without fear. i reward myself when i get through 1/3 of my to-do list. i cross off action items like “read” and “move” because those are more fundamental to me right now than career-building and catapulting towards large-scale accomplishments. and that, my friends, is why i haven’t abandoned my planner while i’ve been sick. accepting yourself if you feel less “productive” by society’s standards can be liberating, and i want to do my best to establish a strong foundation of habits (even though they’re far from consistent right now) and celebrate tiny victories like putting away the laundry that’s been on my floor for a week. do you schedule out your day? how has intention-setting and habit-forming been for you in this era of uncertainty? xo, d #thedailydelaney - @the.daily.delaney on Instagram

The Sunday scaries are back! I am officially back at work full time starting today! I came home from the city Friday, March 13 (Friday the 13th, should’ve known) thinking I’d be home for 2 weeks...here I am almost 7 months later. I’m an assistant to a personal stylist at @bergdorfs. My job is so hands on that it was very difficult to work from home a lot of the time. When the store started opening up end of June, I wasn’t comfortable coming back yet and decided to furlough myself. It was a difficult decision but ultimately the best one for me. Now, 2 months later I definitely feel better about going back in. I’m not going to lie, I’ve absolutely LOVED being home and not really having to work that much. I’m so thankful to still have a job but after not working for so long, it’s definitely a mindset I have to get back into. Plus, I’ve had SO much extra time and energy to put into this account & really focus on connecting with you guys. Now that I’m back at my full time job, I can’t share every second of my day. Have to refind that balance! No surprise here - the hardest part of all is leaving home. I’ve gotten so settled back into life at home, having Brett down the road & being able to do and cook as I please (& my couch. Ugh). Here’s to navigating a new normal at work and getting settled into an old routine. P.S don’t worry, I pass about 5 @starbucks on my walk to work.
