Without any siblings, Hensleigh relies a lot on me to be her playmate and entertainer. I wrote an essay for the newly returned Culture Desk section via the @SfChronicle that is currently out. It acts as a coda to the fine art show that premiered this week. To write the piece I had to go back through the last four months of my life, which was challenging. When I say that I am grateful for my community, as I often do, this is what I mean. This process was made possible, due to the many conversations I had, the rants I was able to freely vent, the emotions I was able to openly express. It allowed me to pull from, and make some sense from the pain, to gain some clarity to write this essay and make this show. Das einer verheirateten Mutter, deren Mann die meiste Zeit auf Arbeit ist - und da gehts schon schief. Denn: 🔥 Alleinerziehende haben eben keinen Ehemann, der arbeiten geht und Geld nachhause bringt, während sie care-arbeiten. Nein, sie haben nur das Geld, das sie selbst erarbeiten. Und leider können Alleinerziehende sich nicht teilen, weshalb sie Lohn- und Care-Arbeit nur nacheinander leisten können statt gleichzeitig. Ergo: Sie arbeiten rund um die Uhr. 🔥 Alleinerziehende müssen zudem wesentlich öfter in Vollzeit arbeiten als verheiratete Mütter (für sie bietet sich wg dem Ehegattensplitting öfter der Teilzeitjob an). 🔥 Alleinerziehende müssen ihr allein erarbeitetes Gehalt in Steuerklasse II höher versteuern als verheiratete Eltern mit dem Ehegattensplitting. 🔥 Und wenn das Geld weg ist, hat die Alleinerziehende keinen Partner, mit dem sie abends zusammensitzen kann und sagen kann: „Wir kriegen das schon hin.“ Es gibt ja nur sie. 🔥 Alleinerziehende sind wesentlich öfter von Depressionen und Burnout betroffen als andere Mütter. Denn wenn sie krank sind, gibt es keinen Mann, der wenigstens im Notfall für sie einspringt. Sie machen immer weiter, weil ich es keine andere Option gibt. . Its OK to be lgbtq, its not OK, to not support them. 👏 Coming out shouldnt be scary, but it is for so many people out there. We shouldnt be scared to tell our loved ones who we really are, but most of us are. Were scared of how theyre going to react because there are so many homophobes, transphobes, biphobes out there. But Im telling you this from a place of understanding, that it gets better. When you tell someone, its like this big weight has been lifted off your shoulders, like you finally get to relax and finally be yourself. But sometimes, their are people out there who dont get that. They dont get that experience that many others get. But at least they know. If you have unaccepting parents, at least youll know their views instead of sitting there wondering.
