A huge benefit of breastfeeding is that breastfed babies are less likely to catch or develop infections, and if they do, they are likely to recover more easily. Breastmilk is a live product full of antibodies and other stuff designed to help boost a babys immune system. Because breastmilk is a live substance, it can change according to your babys needs. If a mother is exposed to an infection she will start producing antibodies against it, and pass these on to her baby through her breastmilk. This means that a baby will get a dose of antibodies too, to help them fight off the infection. These antibodies are one of the main reasons why any breastmilk is better than no breastmilk, and why continuing to breastfeed your baby once they are eating solid foods and past the first year continues to offer protection for them over and above nutrients in the milk. Knowing that we have 206 bones in the body we can say that majority of the bones in the body lies in the feet (206/56=27.2 percent) . We also have 33 joints and more than a hundred muscles, tendons and ligaments in the foot. Our feet are meant to be supple and mobile, adapting to the different environment (flat land, uphill, uneven terrain etc...) through standing, walking and running. The space between the bones of our foot are very important, without sufficient space our foot will loose its suppleness. A compressed foot is not a happy foot. If 27.2% of our bones are not moving while we walk, squat, lunge etc.. in a full body loaded position, something else needs to move upstream and only time will tell when our knees, hips, low back, midback and neck all of a sudden begin to ache and hurt. . When we look at the foot of a baby or young child, the toes are nicely splayed out. This foot is optimal for balance and walking. In certain parts of the world where people either still go barefoot majority of the time, or barefoot a 100% there foot widen out like a fan from heel to toes. So what happened? . With modern society and fashion(beauty over function), many shoes created are not designed for optimal function. Usually having a heel lift and cramming up the toes in the front. Overtime we become weak footed, loose our suppleness and the shape of our foot changes. . Solution? Pick a shoe that doesn’t have a heel and that is wider in the front. Take your shoes off and let your feet breathe and go barefoot more often. Challenge your feet by walking on uneven surfaces and different terrains. Mobilize the foot with a lacrosse ball and strengthen them up!!! . A year ago this was the only way we could all get some rest. I was so nervous to sleep in the bed with them because I tend to roll like a rotisserie chicken. However the body knows. I didn’t move an inch and I slept the best I had (at that point) since the babies were born. The only thing that sucked was mom guilt making me feel bad about who got to sleep next to me—I had to switch them to make sure I snuggle the same amount of time. - @avaelisee on Instagram
Tandem nursing usually means little to no rest. This photo takes me back. The girls were about six months old at this point. I was getting very little sleep, and what I got was restless. - Our bedtime routine began around this time. We went upstairs to my bed and got them all snuggled in their sleep sacs. They often would tandem nurse in the side-lying stacked position, but this particular night Aria wasn’t having it. So Asher got the top bunk and passed right out. - These were some really tough times filled with little sleep and lots of unnecessary arguing. I thought it was my sleep deprivation that kept us constantly at odds, but I eventually realized, It’s HIM, not ME. She was born on Election Day. It was nice, really. Being wrapped up in newborn bliss. No conversation of politics. No television on. No social media scrolling. Everyone excited for the first girl to our family. The first granddaughter on each side. We didn’t even know the results of the election for another 24 hours. Babies can be a great distraction from the world around you. They consume your energy. Your time. And now four years later, two more babies added.... I feel the same. The reason why I justify turning off a horrific sight to watch. I have to stay well. I need sleep. Littles need me. But I would be lying if I said I was not worried. I’m worried. I know you are too. No matter what side you are on. Because the divide is awful. It’s gut wrenching really. When did we stop caring about our neighbors? When did we decide it was ok to not be respectful when others spoke? When did we stop pausing to listen? When did we decide it’s ok to be inhumane to entire groups of people? Today I’m sad. Today I’m checking out and distracting myself with the busy motherhood that is my life. Because if I don’t... I fear the next generation will continue this divide. So today, we will practice our listening ears, we will practice our kind words, we will pray for others hearts to be more kind, and we will love our neighbors who look/are/believe different than we do. Because kindness matters. Humans matter. Amazing👑 ・・・ #Repost @thisbyrdsnest ・・・ • 36 Weeks IN : 36 Weeks OUT Until recently , I’ve lived in shock of this journey that God trusted to make beautiful, despite its challenges. Over the span of 72 weeks my life changed drastically from social interactions, to physical demands. I knew many wouldn’t understand how much needed to shift in my life in order for me to step into a role of Mothering Multiples, in addition to three older little ones; neither did I. My commitment to others has been questioned and I’ve gained an immense amount of strength through this phase. It started with 3 goals in mind when I discovered my Triplets’ expectancy: 1. I would do WHATEVER it took to carry them to 36 weeks 2. I would be front row at my daughter’s Preschool Graduation, 4 days before our 36 week date 3. I would share this journey and embrace the challenges ahead They have come to pass and that makes me full. Today I’m more focused and driven than I’ve ever been. I’ve learned that 2 things can happen when going through challenging, lift-altering, either it can MAKE YOU or BREAK YOU! God has provided me peace and a sound mind, as promised. Just like you, ‘I don’t know how I do it!’ It’s the pure strength that Christ has given me and it will carry me as long as I need to wear this crown of Motherhood. & I wear it proudly, while owning my role and living up to my responsibilities. For this pic I draped my favorite maternity dress over my obvious postpartum body, remembering how debilitating it was to carry three in utero and how miraculous it was to feel their squirms all throughout the day. MANAGING MASTITIS . . Reposted from @earthmamaessence . . Mastitis youre a real fun thief. I love the metaphysics behind mastitis “Milk flows - when our tears flows” ⠀ ⠀ In no particular order / these are some natural ways to support Mastitis. ⠀ ⠀ ~ try & lie with baby as long as possible, skin to skin, allow unrestricted access to the breasts, rest as much as you can. Also changing position of holds ⠀ ~ true mastitis cold packs to the site ⠀ ~ Heat before expressing:feeding. While feeding massage the affected area towards the nipple ... massage in the shower morning & night massaging lumps and or area towards the nipple ⠀ ~ Feed every 2 hours for the first night making sure the breast doesn’t fill/become engorged. Breastfeed as often as possible, but DO NOT neglect its friend (the opp breast) . Offer the breast with mastitis first for most feeds, allow baby to completely drain that breast until offering to the other side. Obviously be careful not to create over supply making sure breast is draining ⠀ ~ double Probiotics (qiara) ⠀ ~ Pokeroot, Echinacea & Calendula tincture @blissful.herbs ⠀ ~ bella donna homeopathics⠀ ~ massage Clary Sage, Lavender, Geranium & Patchouli into affected area giving enough time between feeds to absorb ⠀ ~ take high dose vitamin c ~ Mastitis Blitz tea, compress herbs & massage balm @blissfulherbs⠀ ~ wrap fresh cold grated potato in a clean cotton cloth tie with string or rubber band & apply direct to the breast ⠀ ~ cease placenta tablets until it subsides ⠀ ~ drink a heck load of water I added lemon juice to support flushing of the body - @blissful.herbs on Instagram
