Here is small excerpt: The spasms feel like an electrical wire is plugged into my testicles and penis and legs, and is turned up to the degree where they jolt and burn and sear my body from the inside out. Many people who live with disabilities suffer from this kind of invisible torment, like me. I had a burst fracture in my L-1 vertebrae, and I had a spinal cord injury. It affects all parts of my life: sexual function, physical activity, my ability to concentrate, carrying conversations, sitting, standing, my sense of self. The pain is so intense that its a struggle to focus on anything, at times. But looking at me, youd never see that. Youd never know the fucked up shit I was dealing with internally. With my photography, I wanted to tell stories about what life is like with a disability. I always pointed my camera at others instead of myself. Before the isolation period, I often felt that self-portraits were always, to some degree, narcissistic; there was always a vanity I attached to it. I wasnt into it. I had a grant to continue a long-term project, but when the lockdown occurred I could no longer pursue the story safely. I sat around the house, kind of brewing, like, What the fuck am I going to do now? What will I take pictures of? I saw many people taking photos of their families or of still lives or of pieces of light falling on the walls of their apartments, and it all seemed boring to me. I was resistant to start photographing these things: it all seemed insignificant, for some reason. I was wrong. I was dead set on the idea of continuing to tell stories about disability somehow, and like most great ideas, it was simple; the answer was right in front of me. If anyone is curious as to how i paint my sculptures ( @stormbrush im looking at you) here is a quick video. The first layers are primer over the epoxy casting - normally i use a mixture of grey and red oxide primers for the first coat. Then i apply some acrylic base. This stage usually looks a bit garish and the transistions in particular are awful to look at. What you are seeing at the beginning of the video is a thin layer of oil - usually earth tones thinned with gamsol. Over that i dry brush my premixed flesh tones which are normally on the cooler side. This darling girl is Cassie, short for Cassiterite. She’s a large-footed myotis, commonly known as a fishing bat. Myotis use echlocation to find freshwater invertebrates and small fish just below the surface of water and scoop them up in their feet, which are very large by microbat standards. The lovely people who found her and called us, live near a waterway. We think Cassie may have clipped one of her wings on something while flying. She had moved when our rescuer arrived but, not giving up, she searched and found Cassie hanging on a backyard brick wall, dehydrated and cranky. Cassie will be in care til the bruising on her wing heals. Luckily she loves her diet of brine shrimp, including slurping up the juice. Yum. If you see a bat on its own in the daytime, it needs help. A matéria também está disponível na nossa página no Facebook e no site da fundação: fgml.itajai.sc.gov.br Por trás das exposições Como é feita a higienização das obras no Museu Histórico de Itajaí Quem visita um museu, se admira com a história, a materialidade e o cuidado com os objetos expostos, mas não imagina como é feita essa preservação e os cuidados que se devem ter com as obras. No Museu Histórico de Itajaí, localizado no Palácio Marcos Konder no centro da cidade, Marco Antônio Figueiredo Junior é responsável por esse processo, que demanda muita atenção por conta das condições climáticas que necessitam de um monitoramento constante. Para Marco, o processo de higienização é de grande importância para os Museus, justamente porque ele atrasa o processo natural de desgaste do objeto e garante a longevidade da obra para uma eventual restauração, que financeiramente é muito caro. No Museu de Itajaí são realizados dois processos, o da Conservação Curativa, que é quando se atua diretamente sobre o objeto, interrompendo ou atrasando a sua degradação e o da Conservação Preventiva, que são os cuidados diários com as obras, tirar o pó, olhar o estado da peça, para que se garanta a preservação básica. Outro cuidado importante é em relação a saúde do indivíduo que trabalha com esses processos de higienização, o serviço exige algumas atenções, como o uso de toucas de proteção, camisas de manga comprida, luvas e máscaras. Em alguns casos, por não saber a procedência do objeto, ele pode conter fungos e bactérias prejudiciais ao ser humano, portanto esses cuidados são justamente para evitar o contato direto com a obra, além da cautela com os produtos utilizados na limpeza. Marco lembra-se de casos em que funcionários que trabalhavam nessa função morreram ou ficaram incapacitados de trabalhar novamente por conta de não terem se protegido adequadamente. This cat would come up to me every time I would eat at a regular spot of mine. She was always friendly but also very skinny.
