Barry X Ball’s ‘Sleeping Hermaphrodite’ is representative of a body that exists outside traditional gender binaries. Like the ‘Hermaphrodite Endormi,’ a Roman marble copy of a Greek bronze original from which Ball’s sculpture was modeled, the figure is androgynous. Ancient Greek statues of Hermaphrodite, such as the one from which ‘Hermaphrodite Endormi’ was modeled, are some of the earliest depictions of gender fluidity in art, with their lineage tracing back as far as the 4th century BCE. It is believed that within Greek society, androgynous individuals who were a third, transcendent gender, were considered divine. Go see the show “Wände Walls“ which just opened at Kunstmuseum Stuttgart. It showcases the artistic engagement with walls in over 30 international positions. A central part of the show is my installation “I Believe in the Skin of Things as of that of a Women“. “I Believe in the Skin of Things as of that of a Women“ debuted at the Venice Biennale in 1999 and has been displayed in many exhibition venues since then. It is an open room out of drywall panels I partly demolished. On the walls pencil drawings reminding of graffiti or comics are accompanied by quotations on architecture. The caricature drawings of sexual yet comic content were firstly drawn on the backside of postcards while the title of the installation is a quote by Le Corbusier. Big mood. Thanks everyone for all the kind messages of support over the last few days. Bullying sucks big time. On the playground when you’re 6 and from your home office when you’re 29. I suspect it’s all linked on some level. The attitudes/dynamics at play are always the same, but the problem becomes much bigger when the bullies are also those with the power to enforce law, violently and without accountability. I’m feeling calm knowing that I’ve been nothing but truthful and transparent throughout this whole @nswpolice ordeal, am speaking with lawyers, and hoping to use the experience as a way to move the needle on public awareness around cop corruption. MIDSUMMER NIGHT’s DREAM. 🍯🐰⠀ ⠀ The Playboy Mansion is mythic. Nestled somewhere between Beverly Hills and Westwood, the sprawling 21,987 square-foot estate was purchased by Hugh Hefner in 1971. ⠀ ⠀ In 2016 Playboy announced the Mansion would be sold for $100 million dollars. Before the sale of the property, Hef gave Jeff Minton permission to photograph the house and grounds exhaustively, and Minton took full advantage taking nearly 6,000 photographs. ⠀ ⠀ Minton’s goal was to generate “the most comprehensive look at the mansion ever, down to the smallest details.” Odd glimpses into forgotten corners that prompt speculation about who chose to place that particular object in that setting or what was happening just outside the frame. ⠀ - @racheldaily on Instagram

I think we live in a world where we don’t feel ourselves anymore. Instead we feel numb from all the social media, the technology. The increasing influence from all over the world is slowly killing our vibes. It silences our inner voice and doesn’t let us hear our true self. Constantly being told how to dress, how to act, where to go and how to look. We begin to become ashamed of ourselves and slip into daydreams that replace living. We begin to feel uncomfortable in our bodies and not enjoying ourselves because we want to fit in perfectly playing a role to be included into this society. Being different is not cool, it won’t get you enough likes:( It doesn’t satisfy the large mass and what they don’t understand, they hate. Empathy is so rare these days and the ability to see everyone has their own struggles and that I don’t need to understand everyone’s every move... Why they paint their nails or don’t wear a bra or wear a bra, Why they are hanging out with that person or reading that book. I don’t have to understand because it’s not my fucking business. I have my own life to celebrate and I’m gonna focus on that. We are all so much more than we show on the outside, our dreams our feelings... we were raised being told not to judge a book by its cover and it’s exactly what we are doing now. We all bleed the same blood, cherish the same deep love and cry the same hot salty tears when we are hurt. We all want to explore and save this beautiful planet while cherishing this gift we call life. Not becoming machines dressing the same, thinking the same locked into some brainwashing society full of fake happiness. I know looking yourself in the eyes trying to find your own frequency is tough sometimes, really tough...you may lose friends, friends who you thought would always be there. You may even lose family who doesn’t understand you, but it’s so important you take these paths to learn and grow from them. Remember life is a journey and journeys aren’t always easy. There will storms and rain but it’s needed to wash away the dirt from your soul. Embrace the journey and do you to the fullest. Working with a live and changeable canvas is one tricky endeavour – ‘drawing’ and ‘burning’ patterns onto my skin often involves shooting multiple tests over several days.
