A Aldeia Típica de José Franco encontra-se na localidade de Sobreiro, entre a Ericeira e Mafra, e é uma das mais reconhecidas aldeias musealizadas do país. Em início dos anos 60, José Franco deu asas ao sonho de recriar uma aldeia onde fosse possível mostrar o viver das gentes locais das suas memórias de infância e homenagear à sua terra. Hoje, no pequeno mundo moldado pelas mãos de José Franco (falecido em 2009) encontram réplicas à escala humana de muralhas de castelos, moinhos de vento, um parque infantil, uma pequena adega onde podem provar o vinho da região ou ainda a padaria, onde podem comprar o afamado pão com chouriço, entre outros. A entrada é gratuita e o horário de funcionamento é de 09h30 às 19h00 (18h00 no inverno) Já tinham ouvido falar desse sítio? Eu já tinha visto algumas fotos, mas me surpreendi positivamente com o nível de detalhes e cuidado. PART 3 - ‘As the waste crisis narrows and we start to look at our habits and how much waste we are creating, it’s equally as important to start questioning how this waste can actually be reduced and reused responsibly. On average only 30% of plastic bottles are being recycled, with 1.5 billion being used per day. So we find ourselves at a cross roads, and our reduce, reuse, recycle motto may be falling short as 70% of these bottle are being rejected and dumped into yet another overwhelmingly large pile of waste. Out of all the post consumer waste that we might put into our recycling bins including plastic, glass, metal, paper and cartons that “Typically, 50% of what you put in your recycling bin is never recycled. Its sorted and thrown out,” said Tom Szaky, CEO of @terracycle, a recycling company. This is partly due to user error, a common problem which occurs when people place un-recyclable materials into recycling bins. The error of this recycling issue, goes far wider than just plastic, even with the most conscious consumer washing bottles and jars, crushing cartons and breaking down boxes. We might sort these items into their designated bins or bags, but once we lose sight of the recyclables, the rest of the process is an abstraction. With this in mind, and the awareness that plastic is our largest pollutant, the question is; what can we do with this plastic on the other side of it’s intended singular life cycle? And how can we make make it more functional with the knowledge that it has a seriously sturdy and long life span? There are some very clever cookies around the world, entrepreneurs, who are finding all kinds of wonderful ways to turn bottles into construction objects such as fence posts, bricks, flooring, tiles, boats and more. With even complete houses being constructed from the use of plastic bottles. As a kid, I never appreciated the architecture of the homes in mountains. They looked pleasing for sure, but I found it bit odd. Over the years I actually started finding them the most well thought form of construction with indigenous knowledge applied correctly in sync with the nature, and as per construction material, and the very needs of humans. These houses are warm in winters and cold in summers. They dont require the energy to survive in these homes unlike the so called luxurious houses of the city which need energy to keep warm in winters and more energy to stay cool in summers. The Kathkuni or Kathkundi style of building is something unique to this part of the world. A mesh of interlocking horizontal cedar (locally, deodar) sleepers is created - and in this dressed or raw stone is packed. A singular characteristic is the absence of vertical members. With inherent #elasticity, the design has an enormous seismic response - there have been instances when tremors have dislodged the stones from the frame, and later, have been hammered back into the intact mesh of #wood houses and temples in the style are present in upper #himachal .... I still feel, the development agenda being pushed forward by the NGOs, government bodies and planning commissions is no way a better option for these indigenous people. In no way it is better. It still only helps the MNCs providing the raw material for development and then more and more energy requirements to maintain and survive in the so called developed infrastructure and more and more raw materials required to sustain it. I see no point in it. Where is the idea of development coming from, and to TOP it up the sustainability. Where and why it is being followed so vastly. ಮುರು/ಮುರ/ಮುರುವಿನ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಇವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಈಗ ನಮ್ಮ ಪದಕೋಶದಿಂದ ಮರೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪದಗಳಾಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿವೆ. ಹಿಂದೆಯೆಲ್ಲಾ ಒಂದು ಮನೆಗೆ ಸಾಲು ಸಾಲು ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆಗಳಿರುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು, ಹತ್ತಾರು ದನಗಳು, ಎಮ್ಮೆ-ಎತ್ತುಗಳೂ ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು, ಆಗ ಮುರುವಿನ ಅವಶ್ಯಕತೆ ಬಹಳವಾಗಿ ಇರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ಈಗ ಮನೆಗೊಂದೇ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ, ಒಂದೋ ಎರಡೋ ದನ, ಹಿಡಿ ಹುಲ್ಲು ಹಾಗೂ ಮೂಟೆ ಹಿಂಡಿಯಷ್ಟೇ. ಈಗ ಮುರು ಬೇಯಿಸುವ ಸಂಯಮವೂ ಯಾರಿಗೂ ಇಲ್ಲದ ಕಾರಣ ಮುರುವಿನ ಉಪಯೋಗ ಕಡಿಮೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಮುರು ಎಂದರೆ ಹಸಿ ಹುಲ್ಲು, ಒಣ ಹುಲ್ಲು, ಕಾಡಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಗುವ ಅಗಚಪ್ಪು, ಹಂಬೆ-ಹೊಂಬಾಳೆ, ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಉಪ್ಪನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿ ಬೇಯಿಸಿ ದನಗಳಿಗೆ ತಿನ್ನಲು ಕೊಡುವ ಮಿಶ್ರಣ. ಅದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅಕ್ಕಚ್ಚು ಅಥವಾ ಕಲಗಚ್ಚು (ಅಕ್ಕಿ ತಿಳಿ) ಸಹ ದನಗಳಿಗೆ ಕುಡಿಯಲು ಕೊಡಲಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಮುರುವನ್ನು ಬೇಯಿಸುವ ಹಾಗೂ ಅಕ್ಕಚ್ಚನ್ನು ಬಿಸಿ ಮಾಡುವ ಜಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಮುರುವಿನ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಮುರುವಿನ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ ಒಲೆ, ಬೇಯಿಸುವ ಹಂಡೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಉಪ್ಪು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನೊಳಗೊಂಡು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಅಡಿಗೆ ಮನೆಯಂತೆಯೇ ಇರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಈಗ ಇವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬರಿ ನೆನಪು ಮಾತ್ರ! ಚಿತ್ರದಲ್ಲಿರುವುದು ಅಜ್ಜನ ಮನೆಯ ಮುರುವಿನ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿಗೆ, ಭತ್ತ ಕೂಡುವ ಹಳೇ ಪಣತ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಲೆನಾಡು ಮಳೆ! 📸 & ✍️ : @niruttara_ #prideofmalenadu #muradakottige #cowshed #malnad #malenadu #cowfood #landofrain #westernghats #oldendays #vintagemalenadu #everydaymalenadu #beautifulmalenadu - @beautiful_malenadu on Instagram

Petrichor is the first thing that comes to my mind when I look at this picture. Its silence predicts that it would be a real haven of peace and calm. Just before my real purpose, to find the base of the mind-blowing Monkey´s Waterfall.🏔 . . I could not forget the feeling of terror once I discovered an imposing waterfall that was only visible in the time of heavy rains in Barichara, located seven and a half kilometres away.
